  1. how did you go? Not many squid on the north side of the hacking yet. I got one and cleaned it and it was in roe so I felt a bit bad

    Squid

it's still a little early for squid yet, not many people are scoring them in big numbers. As summer approaches you will have more luck just by virtue of weather
  3. Yarrr ye scallywags and wenches! Today be talk like a pirate day. I outta keel haul the lot o ya fer not tellin me. www.talklikeapirate.com
  4. I was going to say that you made it fairly obvious glad I didn't now that I knwo what the prize is I don't think there are so many "secret spots" though for squid. They are in plague proportions in most sydney waterways around summer time. I've caught them many times from throwing in at random shorelines.
  5. If you want to go wide Ross might be able to get you on a share charter. He's a great guy who will really look after you. www.gamefishingcharters.com.au details are there.
  6. allegedly most of the photos are of the courthouse, not the cells or prison. They still have it a lot better than most criminals though.
  7. Looking forward to the pictures of the finished product robbie! it should turn out good!
  8. Females first matured at 698 mm fork length (FL) and 3+ years, but 50% maturity was not attained until 834 mm FL. The smallest recorded mature male was 360 mm FL and the estimated size at which 50% of males were mature was 470 mm FL (0+ years) FROM http://www.rsnz.org/publish/nzjmfr/1999/39.php So 50% of male fish breed by the time they are 47cms to the fork, but in female fish, they have to be 83cm to the fork before 50% of the fish breed. Maybe legal sizes will gradually be bumped up? 83cms to the fork is a pretty massive fish But I guess that's just because I'm used to catching 60cm models. Imagine the kind of tackle we'd have to be sporting in the harbour if the rats were 85cm to the fork
  9. urangan pier is good, there is also a few other spots around the bay that are good for whiting and a lot less crowded. All along the beaches there are little piers that stick out, just jump on one of them or cast from the shore, and as long as you have the right bait and some luck you should get into some good fish.
  10. If they ever tax fishing tackle it will just mean more people using ebay for everything but small, time critical purchases.
  11. I'm up there next week for uni. If I get a fish thanks to this map I'll let you know thanks by the way!
  12. or amongst the canoes on the fresh side!
  13. I've caught both types there, but usually the southern calamari ones.
  14. apparently when they first put a size limit on kings at 60cm they were just guessing, and over the last few years people have finished studies to properly figure out the size at which they breed. From what I read about this I was expecting the size to increase. 65cm is lower than what I expected it to become. If everyone abides by this, then there should be no reason why you wont catch just as many kingfish at a bigger size? Definately the jigging crew will be over the moon I imagine.
  15. apparently they can bite, but most of the time the only thing you have to worry about is ink going everywhere. Remember kids... "Just pick them up by the hood and you'll be good"

    Blue Fin

I saw some pictures, it was absolutely massive. Apparently it went 105kg?
  17. I stumbled upon netic's youtube efforts the other day too.
  18. just seeing votes wont tell the whole story, a lot of people are unsuccessful in catching jewfish fro reasons outside of hook choice. From my small sample set, it seems to depend on the bait as to whether circle hooks catch fish or not. I have trouble with them in live bait because the point catches, but in fillets they are ok, and in and in squid they're quite good. I'm keen to hear what other people think!
  19. Drop me a line when you do I'm keen as mustard.
  20. The impact would be influenced by tidal flow and frequency of rainfall. Apparently the intake is a bigger problem than the outflow for coastal plants. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desalination#Environmental The worst bit about the plant though is its efficiency. You're basically sending a lot more greenhouse gases out so you can get a minimal amount of water... water recycling and fixing leaks should be the first two options. The idea of drinking recycled water is a lot worse than the reality in my opinion.
  21. interesting I'll keep an eye out this weekend. Maybe the horrible conditions have caused weed to be washed off the rocks and be floating around the surface...
  22. I was thinking of trying for some at deer park this weekend since I'll be there anyway. Any raiders had success in port hacking near deer park for blackfish? Also I'm not sure where I'm going to get weed so any help on that would be good too. It seems like you have to go deeper when the coffee water + debris are about... although last week there were some fish splashing about the surface on dusk in the georges river when I was walking around.
  23. When it calms down, if anyone has a spare spot for a shot at some yft I'd be most grateful. Never caught one before... hopefully this year will be the first!
