  1. Hi hi, a few of us are heading over to Bali on wed and we got together tonight and we said that a fishing charter would be sweet, and makes me happy!! Quick question, if anyones been over there before and can recommend a charter? we're there for a birthday, so staying for a week only, which is a shame, but a pretty sweet gig at the same time!! incase you've been there before and wondering where we are staying etc, we are staying in The Villa's in Seminyak, 8 of us in a 3 bedroom villa... hells yes :D many a bintang to be had
  2. ive caught one of these around neutral bay too. they do indeed stink, incredible how much they smell!!!
  3. nice work on the keepers love this photo:
  4. can i say i also have no problems in getting loads of yakka's, but slimies are a troublesome lot!!! do bait jigs and burley work for slimies as well as they do for yakkas?? p.s. yakka's can be gotten from nearly any structure around pretty much, i.e. wharves etc. just berley up, i give it about 10 minutes of good burleying, if they aint there, they aint there i find!
  5. hey there that was me who u guys ran into! thanks heaps for the lures, now i know what people are talking about when they talk about them. good work with the yakkas didnt get anymore hits that day, when u saw us trolling thru MH we were just going for a cruise to see my mates gf, having a bit of a squizzer around, had a good and informative day out there though the tally ended up 2 kings on yakkas @ 63cm each (sent back) and a salmon approx 50cm?? didnt measure, just put him back too see u round soon no doubt! seb
  6. yea pretty obvious you cant fish that area (like directly under the bridge), yet everytime i was there looking out (about 4/5 hours of the day) i could see the birds working, and it was in places u could fish aswell, say near lavender bay, right up against goat island etc, as i saw people fishing there for a good hour or so the other afternoon, they definately didnt get in anyones way, didnt get any fines either (from what i saw) obviously not intending for people to do anything stupid, but just a bit of info for everyone seeing as i cant get out there! i took some pics the other day where u can see the fish just under the surface of the water, i will try post them when i get them from work
  7. Hey all, long time no post!!! Just thought i should post something up, ive worked almost every day for the last week and a half and i can clearly see the main harbour from work. each time ive been at work, ive seen birds working the surface and baitfish being raped every single day!! not a once off or anything, we're talking almost all day every day, guarentee'd, most ive waited is like 30 mionutes before something happens. Its been happening everywhere from goat island down to fort denison, including under the bridge, near walsh bay wharves, just off blues point, pretty much everywhere, thats about as far as i can see clearly anyways, and sometimes we are talking ALOT of birds too and biggg schools of baitfish, not just a couple, like schools of baitfish and birds smashing them that must be atleast about 15-20 metres accross, and what must be 100+ birds i reckon. ive been working late days, so from like 11am -> onwards, biggest i saw was yesterday, about 5.30pm, just before it started raining, and thats when i saw the masssssive schools of baitfish and a whole heap of birds. not really a report cause ive been working and havnt had a chance to go fishing for a while, but just thought i should post up so someone else can catch them!!! i'd be happy to post more details if anyone wants to ask, so let me know! p.s. no idea on what fish were underneath, cant see that clearly unfortunately.
  8. i use a combo of listerine and soap and give em a good scrub, has NEVER failed me in the past!!!!! i use a nail brush and scrub all over my hands with it, but particulary under the nails. thats right folks, mouthwash... similar effect to toothpaste i imagine, except the listerine has more alcohol in it
  9. i will be chasing powder days at perisher, and working every other day to save my pennies for the snow.... i'll see u guys in 6 months when its warm again! hehe dont think i'll do much fishing, just saving money and going snowboarding at every chance! got a season pass this year, anyone else going on hols to the snow?
  10. Moruya is where all the granite blocks on the harbour bridge came from!! and granitetown aswell, i think is nearby definately lovely pictures you have there
  11. when fishing CG with live yakka's, do u have them under a small float or do u weight them down??
  12. hey, just a quick note, i use balloons as floats now a days (often only inflated to the size of a gold ball) and it keeps livies off the bottom, and it wont get blown away by the wind, AND it doesnt cost jack! the way i connect them is simply when im tieing the knot in the balloon, i put the mainline strait thru the middle of the knot. at first i thought it wouldnt grip and would slide around, but i was wrong, holds its position perfectly, and allows you to slide it to wherever you want it to when necessary. seb
  13. Hey guys, quick Q. a while ago i think there was a post which explained how to get to OMH in detail, as ive been to nth head a cpl of times and had no luck in finding it, and ive since lost the post and i want to go there tomorrow!! can anyone please point me in the direction of the post, ive tried searching for nothing, or else explain how to get there to me!!!!!!1 thanks heaps seb edit: i will be driving there and be landbased, i am hopefully targetting kings/tailor/whatever takes a liking to the baits, are livies (yakkas/slimies) to be expected to be gotten there with burley and a baitjig?? ta again!
  14. sort of off-topic; as i read this, i thought maybe a "How To" reference section would be good to compliment the workshop? instead of having things like works in progress etc, maybe have a forum dedicated to the 'how to's of fishing' kind of thing. people can post tutorials or videos, such as copies of jewgaffer's 'how to strike on a jew run' or netics 'how to rig up squid strips for downrigging' threads could go in there. and it would be admins who decide what goes in there, only the best of the best kind of thing. particularly with videos, words explain, but nothing works like being shown infront of you (either video or in real life). i know some things which come so simply for me now, were such a struggle in the past, like catching yellowtail for example.
  15. nice report dave!! :D hows the new boat go?? congrats on all the firsts for you and the boat, some nice fish there!! did brent almost fall in with the size of his fish? seb
  16. do you use braid...? "The Braidy Bunch"
  17. hit the same spot for about 3 hours this morning for zip. yellowtail were even hard to come by!! i think they had enough of my bait jigs and were over it by then haha. one of my yakka's got taken, balloon disappeared.... then it appeared, no fish on the end im sure if i threw some fresh squid out there it would be on for young and old. i'll have to go catch some and give it a go!!! p.s. i was getting all muddled up today in the tackle, you're right, i need to lose alot of it! i had it for ease of use (snap on a sinker, snap off a sinker etc) but as im landbased and space isnt an issue, i think i will just spread my stuff out from now on and tie everything and take my time! thanks for the tip ceph
  18. guys, while trying to catch some yellowtail i landed one of those fish that u have there under the jacket, what kind of fish is that??? it stank to high hell, i know that much, and it was tiny too.,.. i was like, this yakka is messed up.... lol. would love to know what kind of fish it is tho thanks!
  19. yea mate, it was awesome!! i'll keep u guys posted actually thats one thing i wanted to know, if i want to make the baitfish swim down, i clip the bottom of the tail fin right...? but if i want him to swim up, i clip the top...? what would people recommend for fishing under a float as ive described? and i will be trying balloons tomorrow aswell, dont want my fav floats continously being stolen... lol
  20. So i was on the bus coming home this afternoon, and i thought "its such a beautiful afternoon, i'll go for a fish" now the idea was to try this new spot ive had my eye on (now my own Spot X!) so i head on down to Spot X and i know there is plenty of yellowtail around, so i throw a touch of burley out, have a yellowtail within the minute, put him on a hook, send him out under a float, i havnt even put the rod down yet when i notice the float has disappeared?! just as that happens, the rod is bent in half, i notice this and think... wtf. then the line starts peeling... and peeling... and peeling.... and peeling.... and peeling and im like wtf.... i was standing there grappling this rod going wtf is going on, then i upped the drag a bit played pump and wind for 5 or so pumps, and the drag is tight as anything now, and our not-so-little friend is heading strait for the structure! next thing you know..... ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and he takes probably another 20m of line (the first run taking about 30m i'd say) next thing you know.... ping. ah well, ive only been at the spot approx 5 minutes! im so pumped, hands are shaking, so i start bringing the line slack in, and get it in, only to have my livie, my hook, my little beads i have on the leader, the entire leader, the float, and all the swivels are gone!!!!!!!! so now there is some massive kingy out there, with a metre and a half of leader, a bright orange with silver float, and all my swivels and snap swivels hanging from his mouth!!!! if anyone catches him, please return my gear, that was my favourite float!!! where the line was snapped it was all roughened up, he got me on the structure!!!!! anyways, so i get another yellowtail, out he goes (this time on the rod with 60lb mainline) but he was a bit big, so i try and catch some smaller yellowtail, as i am trying, i catch an even bigger yakka, i get him up, i unhook him, throw him back in, and what happens.... a massive kingy (i'd call it for 80cm+) comes up to the surface and smashes him infront of my very eyes, about 1 metre below me (probably 30cm below water surface), only about 20cm out from where i am standing!!! i see him cruising around a little bit more, get my livie in a bit closer to the action and where i am, but alas he didnt take needless to say i am getting up early tomorrow to give it another crack!!!!! also, i was using 25lb mono and i wanted to see how tight the drag was, in order to get the drag to give some line, i almost cut my hand with the fishing line!!!!!!!! what a monster he must have been!!!!!!!!!!1
  21. my mate is portugese and says that they eat them all the time, only the smaller ones though, they are nicer to eat apparently and you eat bones and all.
  22. Thanks guys, yea it was unbelievable the fight!! I saw my mate on one (who is smaller than me) a couple of months ago and he almost fell in the drink, now i can see why! yea i would have put the head down, but it was time to go home and i was already well and truly late!! stumpy, i actually thought about blooding my shirt after i caught it, but was WAY too excited and completely forgot! hahaha will be heading out again, this sunday most likely...! haha. i do wonder though, when it was slow as anything, how long do u normally hang around at a spot until you move on?? im thinking about 20 mins?? the boat can get some pace to it, so going from manly round to say clifton isnt too much of an issue, so im more wondering what a typical day would be like for you more experienced kingfish anglers?
