Hahahha yeah your probably right - but hopefully it works ok as a bait trap (I dont really eat crab but I need good bait) After watching "River Monsters" tonight and finding out that theres still fish out there that have never been really seen by man before! I made a decision Im going to catch a 30pound whiting tomorrow. I rigged up my bigger baitcaster onto my heaviest rod - but Im really not sure which side of the metal rod the line is supposed to go on? Im hoping you guys can help - the other baitcaster was easy as it had a line guide - this one doesnt and after half a hour googling I still cant find a photo of one rigged up which also doesnt have a line guide. Hoping I got it correct? Oh and will a San Diego Jammer knot be ok? I put my biggest ball sinker I have onto the line (a size8 ball sinker) The plan is, if I cant hook the 30pound whiting I will just knock it into kingdom come with the ball sinker and hopefully it floats to the top so I can swim out and get it Wish me luck

Nope I havnt see that episode of his plane crashing (spewin! maybe i can find it online though) I love that show since Ive got hooked on fishing recently, Ive yet to work out what gear he runs even with lighting fast "pauses" on the tv lols - All Ive heard him mention sofar is hook sizes but no brands mentioned. I sure wish I could cast a baitcaster like he does! Some of the "shanty towns" he walks though I am suprised people dont try and rob him being the only white guy there within a thousand kms (a target) and obviously he is alot better off than the locals financially, but I think I figured that one out - his fishing case looks like a rifle case hahahahha

Whats your favourite fishing based tv show on at the moment? Mines "River monsters" on ABC2 which has a guy generally going out whoop whoop all around the world to extremely remote places like the middle of Papua New Guinea or mongolia. In one episode recently a film crew member got hit by lightning! They generally chase reports of "man eating fish" and things and give a bit of background on what they think they are chasing at the beginning of each show. They really are monster fish he lands! (all catch and release) Close 2nd would be some of the "BCF Adventure TV" (7mate) episodes along with that wierd Pom on "Robsons extreme fishing challenges" on channel 10s HD channel (ONEHD)

Id love to post a report like that hahahhahaha (the 20fish in 20minutes thing) I could of had 20 fish in 10minutes this morning if I had a net lols - but they all would of had to of gone back being undersized I actually have already ordered a crab trap! hahahhahah. As long as it isnt crabs Im ok with that Thanks for the advice mate - Ive been doing a slow steady constant retrieve and they seem to love following but they just dont seem to commit (they were all undersized but they still count as a "caught fish" I guess hahahhahaha) They are pretty fearless though coming to within 1 metre of me before getting spooked. The water was so clear and flat this morning it was great seeing how my lures all worked even if I didnt catch anything again I guess

Im stoked to just get out there with a chance of landing somthing (my luck from tanilba shoreline has been terrible, I had half a dozen whiting chase my lure back to me on every single cast early this morning .....but you reckon I could land one of those? no way hahhahaha)

Maybe run it and give all the wiring a wiggle to see if it shuts off again?

Mate that offer is really *really* appreciated I know how much fisherman guard their secret hotspots and that is a very generous offer mate for sure! At the moment though truth be told, Ive spent nearly every dollar I have on getting some fishing gear together I had a bike accident a few years back which meant the whole business I worked for closed up shop as I couldnt do the labour anymore - So Ive been kind of a "at home dad" with no income at all since (I never even applied for any kind of centerlink so it is actually literally a zero income) I was stupid and never had the 6months of physio done as I was trying to keep the business open, and the doctors were stupid not noticing how bad my shoulder was until 6months later on a repeat xray scan (apparently I should of had surgery and wiring/rods installed at the time it happened, got told i now have to "deal with it") Can I take a raincheck? It might take me a while to save the money is all (2kids and wifes award rate income only) - but Im definatly keen as mustard to meet you and get shown how to do things properly thats for sure! I will PM you my number mate anyway so you have it for the future at some stage...How much would I need for fuel costs mate just so I can start planning ahead a bit if thats ok? You can never find a particular photo when you want it I did find this one though, my dads old boat which used to be moored in Tilligerry Creek just near bulls island - not a great shot though and definatly not as pretty as the first If I find a better one showing the creek I will replace that one

Thanks for the advice mate its appreciated Does the 2 metre leader length also hold true for local "estuary" style fishing for legal sized bream/Flathead? Ive only learned 2 Knots for directly joining line. The Albright and a double uni, is one better than the other or another knot you recommend? I'm kind of in a small Bay here but have a local Creek as well and some local mangrove areas. I fish all over the place except for rocks. sorry if I was a bit confusing before Across the road (my usual) Open ocean And surf Local creek And planning on hitting some mangrove spots at high tide

Thanks guys All this advice is awesome I was chatting to my neighbour today - and he asked (weather permitting) if Id like to go out on his boat again this weekend and maybe pull a all night fish Saturday night into Sunday or just perhaps a days fishing on Sunday with a bit of shark bait on the side. Sounds great to me! Im going to take my 7foot 8-10kg boat rod and borrow a reel off him as my braid I ordered wont have arrived yet - but at least I get to have a play on my new rod I guess this time (borrowed everything last time) Had a great day "fishing" today which pretty much involved not much fishing but alot of chatting with a guy kitted out in Berkley gear - he was scoping out the area for a future kayak fishing trip he wanted to go on. We organised a "intention for a Stockton beach fishing trip together" as he hasnt been on Stockton before in his 4wd and I guess theres safety in numbers when you havnt been to a place before (I go solo ok but I can understand somebody who hasnt been there being a little worried alone the first time) Top bloke, and when it came time to go he passes me a lure and insists I take it! (I offered to pay but he said he got some of them free and was having none of it) As Big Kev used to say "Im excited!"

Hey guys Im just curious - I usually dont fish at dead low tide, but Im hearing on the radio that there is a storm on its way this afternoon. Ive read somewhere that usually the fish bite good on a falling barometer. Would it be worth a shot you reckon? Bream and whiting and the odd flathead in my area land based fishing Cheers!

What a ripper report Those kinds of trips are memorys that will last forever I reckon. I have a mate who visited lake st clair with his family for camping - and he has nothing but good things to say about the whole area. One day I will have to check it out for myself I reckon - specially if the fishing is that good! Well done guys!

Great snapper/s mate. Im yet to land one apart from a double hookup on baby snapper which got thrown back being not legal sized. What bait were you using mate if you dont mind me asking?
