  1. They are great eating.

You need to bleed them, and clean out the black lining of the gut cavity.

All of the fish in the pic are still alive, just out of the keeper net.

The biggest and smallest were let go.

We only kept what we needed.

  2. Braved the rain and the cold to meet up with Trevor and Royce around sunrise.

We fished the southern side of the lower harbour around the top of the tide.

Once the berley kicked the bites began and the fish started coming into the net.

For a while we were going fish for fish, just when I was about to put the keeper net

back in the water someone else was on.

Things slowed down towards low tide and we packed it in.

It was my best session so far, with 16 fish between us and a half dozen throwbacks.

I was stoked, and the guys said 'that's about average'

If that's average I can't wait for a hot bite.

Thanks guys for your valuable advice and generosity .

  3. yeah i had one rod with a half pillie and 4/0 suicide but that didnt get touched as much as the other ganged pillies

I got more hits on the gang for some reason

i think it means three sets of gangs per line and a maximum of 5 hooks per set of gangs

"A gang of hooks should have no more than 5 hooks"(DPI)

So would a treble be counted as one hook to make it a total of 4 (three hooks and a treble) or would it be counted as three meaning a total of 6(three hooks and three hooked treble)

I just asked in tackle talk

  4. That's a great reel, I definitely need one. It reminds me of when me and my brothers were kids.

We'd screw up a big ball of toilet paper and flush it while it was still attached to the roll. Reel screaming runs.

Seriously I'd be using a 4/0 or 5/0 gang and a stinger. That is a small treble on the last hook .

The eyes of small trebles usually fit over the barb so you need to block it with a twist of wire or cable tie.

I have had nights when I have got 4 and 5 only on the stinger, not on the gang.

Be careful they are a lot sharper and the small point and barbs can catch you up very easily.

Hope this helps, and thanks for laugh.

  5. Trevor mentioned that about the moon last week.

Those float stoppers aren't working for me, cost me almost an hour all up.

I am following the advice but maybe putting them on too quick, not enough lube, and friction burning them.

    Only 18 ? ..haha

  6. Good stuff. I wrote off the weekend or fishing looking at the forecasts, gotta be keen ;)

    Hi Sarge

This kind of fishing, although very new to me, is very rewarding.

You can find your own bait and choose your ground according to the conditions.

Search the depth, watch the drift and see the float go down.

'I love it when a plan comes together'

  7. Today my wife was working so I was stuck with home duty.

Did the dishes, the washing and fed and bathed our foster kittens Nanuk and Bliss

Done by 10 and out to gather weed. I found some locally and got a bit of cabbage too.

Back home to feed the kittens again around 1pm then off to s sneaky spot around Drummoyne

I sounded the area to get the depth and got the berley going.

The weed I found was too short and wouldn't stay on so I made the switch to cabbage.

Those rubber float stoppers kept catching on the rod tip, so I doubled up with a stopper knot.

Now I had the right depth it wasn't long before I had a solid 38cm fish in the net, followed shortly

I left them biting as I had to get dinner going for my girl and the kittens.

    Cheers

  8. Maybe members have read the story of Barramundi in the harbour,

    You know the one,

7 ft tall arms like tree trunks etc ...

I made the call to report it to DPI Fisheries on Wednesday. No one home. I left a message.

    Name When Where

    Nothing......? No response .

18 months ago I saw some people digging the Mangroves for worms in a National Park

I got photos, rego numbers, reported it,

    No response.
