  1. Trying to find a campsite to spend the new years period and get out of Sydney around then. Anyone have a recommendation for Seal Rocks/Treachery Camp type of area?

Relatively secluded, good beach to fish off, quiet

I've read treachery camp can get pretty rowdy and packed. Not sure if its still true as apparently it changed owners recently.

    Cheers

  2. Quite shaggy in front too. I've had bad experiences around there. I guess the nudists sometimes would prefer no clothed people hanging around? Not sure.

There is a place near the headlands which has always looked promising, you get down via a chain

edit: meant snaggy but both words are probably true...

  3. I usually cast no more than 5m in front of me so burleying is no problem. Most fish hold to structure, including the wharves that we fish off, for me I like to fish as close to the structure as possible. Also use fluorocarbon instead of mono, fluro doesn't reflect light nearly as much as mono and so fish have trouble seeing it.

Fair enough. Yeah 5m in front of me is still pretty shallow. The disadvantage of fishing some shallower rocks I guess.

    Thanks for the help

  4. Cheers

    My problems being:

I need a large star sinker to hold against the current. Makes fishing light pretty hard, fishing 20lb mono atm.

If i cast the bait 40m in front, how do I get the burley stream near my bait if the current is going directly to my right? I've never seen am answer to this except, throw it there with a scoop. I should probably get on that it seems

  5. I was out this morning again. Dead calm, dead in general. Had nothing but small fish nibbling the bait.

Current was strong. Wonder if that affects things. I may move to the other side of Clifton's and try my luck at tailor Bay.

Head north head is looking good but don't know any spots there

  6. Headed out yesterday arvo around 2 - 6pm near middle head. Strong NNE winds made things a bit difficult but i whacked on a big star sinker to keep the line taut

Used combos of half pillies and some cuttle i caught a few weeks ago. Nothing, not even a touch... Absolutely dead quiet. Not sure if i just smell or if this part of the harbour just isnt firing. Saturday looked like a good day though, saw a few promising reports.

  7. My usual spot seems to be over run with port jackson sharks. I either get no bites or end up pulling up one of these bloody things! They're so heavy you cant pull them up the rocks so you end up losing the rig half the time.

Does this mean the marine environment where I am fishing has changed?

I did throw out a cuttle on a float and I noticed the current was flowing pretty quickly East (despite a mostly Easterly wind ie heading West). I wonder if this is causing small fish to get swept away as the current makes it too tiring for them to stay in the water there? It was the run in tide, fishing near Middle Head.

  8. Ive picked up a nice occy off a pylon like that but that was sight fishing haha.

Have lured a couple big squid from under a wharf but they didnt take the lure

Had a go the other night with the pylons, nothing. I think it needs to be high tide, I was right in the middle of low and high when I tried.
