  1. All of the above is cool. The only issue is casting with the right hand, then transferring the rod over to the left, which is ok but a bit clumsy if you are doing a lure or fly retrieve. HAPPY FISHING!!
  2. So it seems weird to me that manufacturers sell the reels with the handle on the right. Especially when informed shop assistants say thats not correct for right handers. When flyfishing yer b..gged if you dont reel/strip with the left hand. :-)
  3. Just bought two new reels! A Fin Nor and a bigger Pflueger, can't wait to test em. But I notice that ALL spinning reels are sold with the handle on the right. I'm right-handed, which means I hold the rod in my right hand and wind with the left. "That's the correct way", three shop fishos tell me this week. It's personal pref of course, but doesn't it make sense NOT to change hands with the rod every time you cast?
  4. Yeah but he can be such a dag, and gets in wrong sometimes. Catching those big Murray Cod, he thinks they are trying to eat each other when in my experience they are just fighting over the same lure. He often fishes in situations equivalent to shooting fish in a barrel.
  5. Well done with the jewie! I totally agree with the comments about the grips. I don't like them at all for handling live fish, not even to weight them. If we are going to release them, we can at least acknowledge that no fish EVER feels its own weight, let alone by the jaw. And well done on your perseverance in the George's, issue.
  6. You catch them in the lake? It's a very shallow opening to the sea isn't it?
  7. Interested to know what were you using for the jewies?
  8. Jewies love everything don't they?
  9. The other night fishing in the lake I used circle hooks and lost a lot of bait waiting for the fish to hook themselves. Probably bream, using a little running ball sinker, they continually took the bait for a journey and yanked the line tight. I resisted trying to strike them and never caught a fish. Next time, trad hooks! (But the circles would definitely be good for snapper and some of the larger pelagics I reckon.

    Parasites?

Hi Paikea, I just put on my waders and waded out on SW side of Kings Point (off Kings Point Drive, out the front of our new house.) As the sun is setting. Heaps of strikes on a small Wonder Wobbler, nothing flash. Saw at least one good sized tailor jump right out of the water. Something bigger chasing it do you think? A local said he has only ever seen two jewies caught in the lake. (Gotta go back to Melb - my new novel is to be launched - but back for a long time towards the end of Oct.) Should meet up some time. Robert

    Parasites?

Caught a few tailor yesterday in Burrill Lake, mostly little choppers but kept one at 40cm for the table. But when I brought it up to the house, I noticed it had two "parasites" on it, one attached to each pectoral fin. They looked like mudeyes in shape color and were easily rubbed off. But what are they? Anyone seen these before?
  13. Very sad, our environment is getting more and more stuffed! On the surface of the water, it all looks ok, so nothing is being done about this. What about Middle Harbour?
  14. Only thing is, I kinda like striking/ "catching" the fish rather than wait for it to arrange itself on the hook..........
  15. Now that's a fish! Those Halco poppers work well. Well done.
  16. Wow, nicely done. Soon to be living on the south coast so looking forward to some great fishing. (Taking notes on this!!)
  17. That's why I think stainless steel hooks are a bad idea.
  18. Well done! Can I ask you which water you were on?
  19. What are you going to do with them Sydneyfisher, fertilize the garden?
  20. Reminds me of the time I went to fish off the pier at Portarlington but the pier was crowded with people catching nothing. I was desperate so I put on a fresh mullet and tossed it out on a surf rod, right over the heads of all the fisherman. Next thing, whack, away it went. Brought in a big sambo which tangled around about six other lines. Got it up, untangled the mess and just nicked off with my fish, leaving them all staring after me. I was only there about ten minutes LOL.
