  1. No not there although I have fished that spot, has never really produced for me, too many bait soakers around for my liking, cheers.

The areas that produce Bream on surface for me have alot of scattered rock, sand, look for areas of crushed shells on the shoreline, at night I think that splash and rattle are more important, it may also be related that their is alot of prawn activity at the moment, cheers.

    Hi JustinP

was it were we went that afternoon, that little bay near a restaraunt?

you where getting a few follows on that little popper you showed us.

    cheers

  2. yes dear i told you the snakes are just as good as the bullsharks we fish with here in the local. hahahaha.

when we going for another day trip up there?

    you know the answer

1 when I finish the front deck (2009 probably)

2 when we get back from snowboarding in Japan (can you fly fish in Japan? maybe I should sneak the loomis in the snowboard bag). :074:

  3. took the wife and a mate over the mountains for a day of trouting over the break.

Left home at 4.30 and arrived at the river at around 7.30 and comenced the set up of gear and the walk.

Spotted plenty of fish but had no luck at first, walked up to a larger pool where more risers where spotted and the wife nearly picked up 2 fish on HB lures.

Couple of minutes later I saw a nice rainbow swim past my feet which spotted my black wooly bugger resting on the bottom abot 20 feet in front of me. 1 small strip is all it took and he darted over and scoffed it down, then the airiel display started. after a few runs and a few minutes I landed the trout and man was I pleased with myself. My second trout on fly ever. We saw a big tiger snake swimming across the river not far up stream from us which started to float down stream towards us (we couldn't get out of the water quick enough).

later on thetr where some small trout caught (keyring size) and that was it for the day.

We noticed larger trout seemed to be butting the HB lures but not biting them seemed like they were chasing them off.

Any way it was great to get out and give it ago, will head up agian soon.

Have pics but can't load them for some reason.

    will try again soon.

  4. how did you go? I was up there over the break and it looked like beautiful trout country.

It was that long ago I can't remember but i was up there just in Dec 07 for a weekend and there were some fish to be caught

lots of small risers and I managed my first trout on fly.

    good water lots of snakes.

    cheers

  5. Well done Mate,

Good to see you applied the blindfold on the trip down :074:

Only two little guys is still pretty good in flood conditions.

Where was that big rainbow? the same place as the last time I hooked the bastard :074:

    Cheers

    BM

yeh the blindfold method and he was driving :biggrin2:

the rainbow was further up the other way were the bank is high and bushy

I had to bash into the bank and slide down into the water and then walk up a bit to get in front of a little rapid.

the strength of the water flow was quite strong and the footing slippery

    impossible to fly fish

went for a day trip over the Blue Mountains on Sunday with a rookie trout fishraider

left home at 4.00 am for the 3.2 hour drive

got to destination X and started up the track

the rookie couldn't believe the awesome scenery and the fact that there was fish availble for the taking

after seeing a few risers and a few leaps we both could not belive how easy this was going to be.

after an hour of trying an no luck at all the rookie finally hooks his first trout of his life a little brown

we contiued on through the bush and tried some other areas that looked promising but no luck

on the return we saw a big brown rolling in the water sufrace and then disappearing again, he did this a few times but was not interested in what we had to offer.

I waded out in the middle of the river and cast my little HB above a small rapid and worked it through and saw a lovely big rainbow bolt out of nowhere and smash it a few times but no bloody hook up :ranting2:

after a quick feed off down river we went for a flick and on my first cast I hooked a little angry brown

after another hour tramping throught the bush and trying likely looking spots we decided to call it for the day and start the long trip home.

wil be back when the water has cleaned up and slowed down a little.

    cheers

  7. :074:

Last saturday i managed to get out and throw a few plastics around. It was an area up near Rozelle. There was a few spots of rain coming down but i'd made so much effort to get there so i was'nt gonna call it off!

A couple of mates who dont fish came along out of interest and i set up two extra rods so they could get involved. We got there and these two started thrashing the water with a few casts with the bail arm closed, god knows how many knots they got on my new reels loaded with brand new braid!!! But lowe and behold after 20mins one of them shouts "i think i've got one......yeah....it's moving ...i think it's a fish" Turned out to be a flathead of around 45cm. Over the next 2 hours he caught another, so did my other friend again all around 45cm. I managed to drop two fish then at the last gasp (You know, the "one last cast disorder") i managed to score one!........about half the size of the one's my friends caught! :mad3:

Basicly i'm after some new friends! lol Nah i'm just joking, i'm glad they caught because they never would have stayed that long, infact they want to go again in the week after work one night! Oh well looks like i'm gonna be untying a few more knots....and unhooking fish......and tying rigs......and hooking bait....and...you get the idea.

Looks like they are all HOOKED! :074:

wait till they start getting in their cars and all they can smell is Berkely juice coming from their car boots. :1prop:

  8. mate totally agree with you... no breambo's but gezz alot of flatties.. have not seen this many for years. me and a mate of mine head down to our local (georges) and mate were just been switchn straight over to the heavy stuff for flatties and pickin up 5 each in a hour no probs...

    cheers livebait..

yeh theres been heaps of lizards and good size ones too but I need some of those nice long runs of the breambos

wonder how long we will have to wait

has anyone seen it like this before?

  9. I hit Lake Lyell last weekend but did it very very tough. Farmers Creek Arm was super dirty from run-off and I didn't see a fish there so moved over to the second rec area where I lost one decent Brown on a Berkley Frenzy but that was it.

There was a few fish rising to a White Moth hatch well out in the lake but they went down when the Speed Boats came out (and boy did they come out, tonnes of them including some real inconsiderate clowns).

Was a very hot day too, so I suspect that had a lot to do with the poor fishing.

I am hitting the Lakes again this Friday and Saturday, if anyone is around keep an eye for me and wander over for a chat. Should be at Lyell Friday arvo but not sure where Sat yet.

    Cheers

    Windy

yeh we had some knuckleheads wakeboarding in a 4 knot zone yesterday send bow waves smashing into the sand banks

    tools

  10. Hey all raiders,

I was down the local haunt yesterday having a late flick with a couple of other raiders.

We were discussing the lack of bream at the moment.

Curious to see what other are noticing at this time of year.

Last year at this time we were constantly getting smashed by good size critters.

    Is it the rain?

Plenty of lizards though but no breambos and next to no whiting

Maybe they are sick of Berkleys :1yikes:

  11. Well done mate

Congrates on the new PB a solid croc!!!

must of hooked her in the lip :biggrin2:

    Good work

    BM

    Yeah

she had the pseed right down her gob

had to leave it in her

gettin itchy for a trip over the mountains again BM

    how bout you?

  12. Nice lizard

    penguin

    Yeh it was a beaut.

I just took my time had the drag set right and enjoyed the envy of me mate as we waited for our fist look at it.

It went for a few nice bursts and then that typical heavy flattie cruise up and down the bank followed by some headshakes on the top of the water and then some more runs and bursts.

bit dodgy dragging up on the sand but all was OK at the end.

    cheers

  13. Pulled in this nice lizard the other day.

My PB at approx 72 cm (mearured on my rod and checked at home later). :1prop:

Caught on 4lb leader with a pseed berk minow.

Put up a great fight and took about 5 mins to bring ashore.

Me mate could not believe it as we had both not caught anything.

    post-3444-1194989568_thumb.jpg

  14. certainly is a top flattie haunt. I haven't caught a bream yet but have caught many lizards, mainly on the berkley worms.

I fish there alot and it runs very hot and very cold

I caught my PB bream there at 46 and the brother scored one at around the 44 the same day

it was last summer on an overcast day mid tide.

  15. Cheers Brendan. I caught this little guy on the Stella spin...first fish for one of the new rods!

    Cheers mate...

I went down to fig tree this evening and only managed one baby flatty of about 25cm on a p'seed minnow...

Dropped a couple of fish, one of which felt quite a bit bigger.... :(

I'm just starting to really spend time trying to work out the river and when different spots fire at certain stages of the tide etc...

There's certainly no shortage of lizards in the system, I'm just trying to figure out how to get the big ones!

    Cheers

    Tony

I scored a screamer down there a few weeks back

not sure how long but it was 3 lengths of my snowbee wading boots

I thought it was a snag at first

people yakking past must have thought it was a shark with all the white wash it was shaking up

    awesome

  16. Nice fish Tony - must be a good sign for the rods :1prop:

yeh thats a nice lizard you got theres plenty down there sometimes they play and sometimes they don't

I get further up around sugarloaf point and flick the odd sp and even get the fly gear out

I was down there the other night in the rain wading around and scored a couple of little breams on fly

you can't beat the camos down the LCR nothing else comes near them

  17. Hi Raiders,

Yes Dear and I hit a remote high altitude river yesterday, hoping for some elusive Trout.

The BOM informed us our river in question had just over 60mm in two days :1badmood:

so to be honest our hopes were not exactly high. Got to the river about 7am and sure enough it was running a banker and brown

Dry flies were out of the question, so we both rigged up our biggest, blackest wooly buggers.

With the river in this condition, big resident Browns often wait in ambush behind current breaks such as rocks or logs. After an hour our casting to mean looking snags in the raging currents we had no takers.

Then as i lobbed my bugger upstream of a rock, the leader stopped dead and we had our first Brown of 42cm  . After posing for a few he was slipped back into the flow

    post-2475-1194228637_thumb.jpg

I then walked downstream to see if Yes Dear had any luck (and to brag) and sure enough he too had a pic of another beautiful brown of similar size. :biggrin2: and a story of one that got away as well

Come upstream I said, I nailed this guy in a very fishy looking pool.

We both started fishing the pool hard and soon enough my bugger is nailed again by another good brown who precedes to go balistic and throws the hook :mad3:

After a quick bite we head downstream to a wide pool, i rig up a B/H pheasant tail below a stimulator and honest first cast the stimi bobs under and i am into a fiesty little brown of about 20cm.

Then very next cast i catch his brother in the same spot who is even more determined to thow the hook.

Later on Yes Dear nailed his cousin on the spin gear and has a follow by a big rainbow.

Lets head back I say but how about one more cast were you saw that big bow.

The leader again stops dead as my bugger is nailed by the big rainbow that realy goes off peeling drag and shaking his head. Then just as Yes Dear readys the camera for some pics the bastard hook pulls and the big rainbow casually glides back into the depths :05:

Well between us we hooked 8 fish and landed 4, pity the big ones got away, but we still had a ball :biggrin2:

    Cheers

    BM

    Hey BM,

it sure was a lot of fun and a really nice place.

Can't wait to get back asap

what happen to the pic I sent of the first little fellow I scored, didn't it come through?

Just had the electric motor delivered so will have to give it a run up the NR soon for some bass fun!

    cheers

  18. I was about 1km further upstream from Fig Tree Bridge, at Sugarloaf Point, near Buffalo Park. First time I'd fished there and it really does look like perfect flattie water. I'm gonna persist with this spot over the next month or two as I'm sure it will eventually produce the goods. I work nearby too so as the days get longer I'll get down there more often after work.

It will produce but we normally keep it quiet as we don't wont a heaps of dudes down there fishing it out.

I will probable see you down there in the afternoons as I live within walking distance form there.

we have scored flatties up to 55cm there but normally a bit smaller with the occasional bream and whiting.

the thing I am keen on doing is the mullet on fly down there, in the summer there are heaps of them.

give me a pm when your heading down next and I might meet you down there.

    cheers
