  3. Hello all, Me and my dad are located on the sunshine coast and on christmas eve last year we picked up our new boat(best crissy present ever. The boat is a Markham Dominator 700o Canyon Runner. We have never owned anything this big, the biggest being a 4.8m hydrofield. The boat has twin 150 hondas on the back, the most expensive lowrance sounder/gps plotter with depth contours(makes it soo much easier to find reef) and all the other mod cons, it is on a trailer. Lucky we have the F250 otherwise we wouldnt be able to tow it. We just finished gearing up and about to start practising for the blue marlin season off here. The plan is to take it to cairns when i turn 17. Our max speed weve reached soo far is 70 kilometeres per hour with a little more revs to go, plus the motors are not fully run in yet. It is the best boat to fish in and gets me days off school.

    What Braid

Hello all, Just wondering if anyone has any suggested brands of specialised jigging braid to suit the above specified outfit. The prefered breaking is around 50 - 65pld and couloured in 10 or so metre incrimets would be an added plus. Cost is not too much of an issue. Cya, Dougy
  5. Hello all, Just wondering if anyone located on the sunshine coast from this website. It would be great to swap gps marks. cya, Dougy
  6. When trolling, bridling the live bait is the best option. A rubber band is placed over the hook of choice, with the other end insertered into a bridling needle. The needle is passed through anywhere from the nostrils to the front of the eyes. The the end which was in the bridling needle is also placed on the hook. The hook is then twisted, so there is 3-4 wraps in the rubber band the the hook point goes back underneath the rubber band. Then the rubber band is slid up the shank of the hook to about halfway. This methods makes the livies last alot longer and swim straight. Hope this helps. Dougy
  7. Hello all, I am extremely keen to give softie fishing for snapper a go. Today I purchased a pack of berkley gulp 5" jerk shads in the glow variety and a pack of berkley powerbait 4" minnow in the pearl watermelon colour. If anyone has used these for this purpose it would e great to know your thoughts. Also anyone with any experience in softie fishing for snapper, it would be great if you could tell me anything/everything you know. Such as ways to work the lures, jigheads, drop-shotting, leaders and lure selection. Also I have an outfit which will do the job for now but am looking at purchasing a purpose assembled snapper fishing outfit. Maybe the shimano twin power on a decent shimano rod. What are your thoughts. Any help is appreciated, thanks. Dougy

    Wire

Hey, The main problem I have with wire is that when it is pulled or it moves through the water it kind of sings and lets off a sound through the water and this tends to put the fish off, this problem is mainly faced when trolling with wire. Dougy
  11. hey, Although they're har to come by the 'revolution' series of rods are the best I've used for that price. Hope this is of help. Dougy
  12. hey, Unless you plan on using the whipping teqnique to catch flathead, the eggbeater is the only way to go. As far as rods go, althought hard to come by the 'revolution' series of rods by shimano are ideal. Hope this helps. Dougy
  13. Hey fellas, I was wondering if anyone can help defen to me what tuna tubes are. I,ve seen and heard about them being on the back of game boats. Any help is appreciated. Dougy

    Wharf

hey, If you would like to catch big fish, there must be little fish around. A few tips that may help include, using a bigger prawn or a half hitch around the tail of the prawn. Also if you can get hold of some bait cotton this is useful. Simply bind the prawn to the hook and it shoulndt come off too easily. Hope this is a little helpful. Dougy
  16. Thanks for that, the website is a great help. Dougy
  17. G'day, The jig weight you use all depends on what weight you jig rod is rated at. Choose a jig that weighs anywhere between the ratings marked on you rod and you will be fine. Oh, and if you're start jigging I suggest you go to the gym and build up your upper body strength and book a good chripractor, haha. Hope this helps. Dougy
  18. In the estuaries they're great. If you can get get any 'action discs (a great idea) simply put a whitbait on a long shank hook with an action disc over top and this is deadly on flatties. Pull or drift this bait ever so slowly and this is a deadly teqnique. If your not sure exactly what action discs are visit http://www.wigglefin.com. Hope this is of help. Dougy
  19. G'day raiders Just wondering if anyone has ever used or heard of bumpa bar lures. I am interested to find out how they perform. Also, has anyone know of them being used as jogs in shallow water. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks, Dougy
  20. The 6500 shimano baitrunner with the waterproof drag system would be great matched to a TCurve rod.
  21. You cannot go past a Shimano Baitrunner (4500, would probably be the best size for you needs). Dont be put off by the baitrunner feature as it is only an extra and does not get in your way. They are great reels especially with the waterproof drag system. Hope this helps.
  22. if you can get enough of them, the water absorber satchets they put in boxes are good. just a couple of satchets in per tray. or a quick sprinkle of talcum powder and shake should do the trick
  23. I am only a young fella, but I am lucky enough to have a dad that just bought a Markham Whaler 7000 Canyon Runner. We are planning to take it off the shelf from moolooaba and target some blue marlin. We have never done this sort of fishing before, and we just got some of the tackle. We purchased 2 Shimano Tiagra 24Kg stand up outfits and 2 Penn/Precision 37Kg stand up outfits. We also invested in a Pakula Withdoctor some gloves, line, gaff and a black magic eqaulizer harness. We are extra lucky to live on the coast righ near wellsys tackle. Everytime we go in there we get something else. We have never done this sort of fishing before, we have been reading the In The Game features in the fishing mothly. How worng would someone be to think its just dragging a few lures behind the boat. Could anyone give us hand with lures that work for Blue Marlin up to 150Kg. Any help is appreciated
  24. Hello Does anyone know of some good blue marlin lures for fish up to about 150Kg. Any help is appreciated
  25. They are quite simple and very effective. It comes into its own when you are not holding your rod, e.g. floating pillies etc... Simply get your bait to the desired spot in the water or put it somewhere where it can swin there it self, then place the rod in a safe postition, rod holder preferably, this is why it is best to fit the reel to a rod with a gimbal on the butt, then flick the switch usually located near the bottom of the reel. Check that the line pulls of the reel easily, so the fish feels no resistance when it picks up the bait, then sit back and wait for the scream of the ratchet pick up the rod carefully and when the fish has had a decent run simply turn the handle and hopefully your on, WWWWWWWWAAAAAAAHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Hope this helps, Happy Fishing
