  1. Landbased in the bobbin head area. A non fisho friend wants to go for a fish, so we'll be going for anything that bites :)

Actually there was garfish down that way a few weekends ago - and they do down a treat one dusted with flour and pan fried

    Exciting days ahead Tef1on!

  2. Thank you all for the wise words. We will be going for 2 single kayaks now. Am currently researching roof racks and lifting aids etc. Just looking on youtube and it is amazing the types of contraptions people have built to be able to lift those kayaks up onto the roof. Makes me wonder if I need to change cars now before I buy (or build) all of that roof racky stuff....

Have been shopping around and 2nd hand is quite appealing at the moment, as often the kayaks are fully kitted out and hence alot cheaper.... any thoughts on if 2nd hand if is a good idea or not?

Does anyone have an opinion on stability versus speed/performance for a kayak? I was looking at the revolution 11 versus the outback versus the sport. Have ruled out all of the pro angler models because of weight.

  3. Hello all.

Typically when I go fishing, I go with my housemate - we are both female - so we need to be able to lift the kayak on to the roof of a RAV4 and secure it.

Am thinking seriously about getting a pedal Hobie for fishing and to get some exercise in.

There might be times where we just go out for a paddle - minus the fishing gear.

One of the main factors I am concerned about is the weight, as lifting 45kg's will be quite hard.

Does anyone have a view as to if tandem or 2*single kayaks would be better? and reasons?

    Cheers all

  4. Dynabolt sounds like you speak from experience!!

Well, it's what my mum told me. Plus my local fishmonger has a sign up next to the box of muddies saying that when they bite they don't let go. And I assumed that as this happens with nippers, it would most certainly apply for muddies :) Plus I am absolutely not game to try out the theory myself!!!!! :sun:

  5. That's awesome! Not many people get a chance to see a muddie in it's natural surroundings, let alone catch it! Must find some time to go out and catch some.....

Wise move with the net... those things don't let go after they bite.. even AFTER you have separated the claw from the body!

  6. That's a really good catch!

They can get quite angry, so you've done well by chilling it. I have used BBQ tongs to handle them in the past...

Reminds me of a time when a friends father wanted to see how big a muddie really was and tipped one out of the bucket onto the kitchen floor.... and it hadn't been tied up.....

Let's just say that it was pretty angry, very agile and took a long time to re-capture! (Plus there was a fair amount of screaming from the humans)

My suggestion is to put it in the freezer for a half hour before you next want to handle it. Will keep it slow.
