Tranducer help

Hi,

I currently have a Furono ls-4100 installed with a airmar p66 tranducer and I'm wanting to upgrade to a better colour finder such as the furono fcv 620. However I've seen that the p66 is quite a generic transducer used with a few different finders. Looking at the specs of it, they seem quite good and If I kept it, it would take away the hassle of installing a whole new sounder. So I'm wondering what type of finder I can attach too this tranducer? Any 8 pin?

Cheers,

Will

5. Thanks a lot for that great write up. Thats the goal, I want to get a gomoku and do some jigging - not even for specifically targeting legal kings but too go for bonnies, snapper etc as well. I'm planning to head to the tackle shop next weekend. I've heard a little more about specific ways to work SP's recently so I'm keen to give a few different techniques a go over the coming weeks.
6. When I did a bit of fishing by my self in Queensland I had some of the best flatty fishing ever. Mainly, on a run out tide. I hired a little tinny and searched for some little inlets along the bank on the Noosa river. I found a few that would be only 50 cm deep and would anchor up where the inlet meets the main channel. So on a run out tide the water would wrap around the corner of the inlet going into the main channel. With the water flowing through the mangroves I guess it brought a lot of bait to the flattys. I remember I'd get around 10 flatties in 15 minutes at some points. It was insane. Using just little SP grubs and having them bounce along the bottom. I haven't bothered trying to fish mangroves around Sydney but I think you could find similar areas, like I mentioned above, in the Hawkesbury. When I just specially try and target bream I agree that man made structures seem to be good. Like Jettys and stuff. I've been having a bit of luck specifically targeting them with blades and SP's but its definitely more difficult! A little spot I like is the north and west side of goat island around the jetty and also the slipway? On the western side.
7. Well I went back on Friday and only managed a small bream and flatty. I was only there for around 30 mins so it was still pretty fun. Now to improve my king's skill with soft-plastics...
8. Is it true a reel with 75cm+ retrieval per crank is pretty necessary for good slow pitch, micro jigging?
9. Ahh, I wished I could of come down. I had sport all day. I'll do a bit more research!
10. Can I bump this thread. Still not having a huge amount of luck with the kings and I'm narrowing it down to my technique being the problem. I rig the SP's so they swim straight. Not using overly heavy leader (15lb) and going as light as I can with the jig heads. I just do a continuous jerk up, single wind, repeat all the way back to the boat. I'm going well with all other species on SP's.. Does this sound right? It doesn't take long to have the lure back at the boat and I let it sink down a fair a bit. Thanks a lot, Will
11. Ok, great. So I'm pretty set on the gomkou rod then. Any help on an overhead reel for it? I'm going to get a pe 1.5 rod so am going to use 15lb on the reel. Thanks a lot, Will
12. Ok great. Thanks a lot, I was thinking about spin but then started looking at overhead. Main reason I'm looking at a baitcaster is I've heard overhead is better for micro jigging? Also I want to try overhead out as I haven't used it many times...
13. Ahaha, I hope I can repeat it. I'll let you know how I go. Damn, would of been nice to get my first proper decent sized bream on SP's. Thanks. Will have a part 2 too this report Yeah, I saw a lot of stagnant schools of tiny fish in the very shallow parts right next to the bank. Not sure if that's the bait they were chasing but there were definitely fish there. I often see the professional boats just use the electric and slowly go around all the moorings and jetty's. I guess its pretty effective, covering lots of ground. I'll have to give it a go soon.
14. Hi, I'm looking at selling my heavy jigging rod I use for live bait and trolling, and moving towards a micro jigging rod. It look's fun targeting bonito, amberjack, small kings etc and I'm not a massive fan of trolling and livebaiting. Looking at doing 60-80g jigs. I have a semi-idea of ideal rods for slow pitch micro jigging but still a bit confused as too suited reels. I dont have a huge budget so the current setup I'm looking at is Rod: Storm GO-C-601L (.8-1.5 p.e 6ft micro jigging rod) Reel: Daiwa Tatula HD 200hs Line: 15lb depth braid Any help and tips on the current setup I'm looking at would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot, Will
15. Hi, So I got home today opened my laptop and watched the standard afternoon fishing youtube vids. I was watching a video of a guy, in the middle of no where catching flatties and it gave me the idea to go fishing, land based, just to see what could happen. If this guy was catching them at no particular spot hopefully I can too. Within 30 seconds I was out the door armed with my bream raider, symeter 2500 (4lb line) 3 soft-plastic grubz and one spare jig head. Walked about 5 minutes to the closest water to my house, and came to the edge of the lane cover river. There was hardly any current, no deep spots just the standard bank. Only structure was a little private boat house next to me. Nobody who was actually hoping to catch fish would ever go there. So I chuck out the SP, first cast nothing. Re-cast and bang. On. a decent flatty. Not bad at all. Throw a few more cast's and then about 7th cast on again. This time a medium sized bream. About 15 cast later, a little pinkie snapper. A few more casts got some good hits and lost the tail of my grub. Could this be tailor? After about an hour of fishing I got probably 4 more mid sized flatties. All fish thrown back. And this is why its akward. Never have I got this many fish when I go out all day on the boat. I know these are standard bread and butter fish but it's pretty great and fun to catch them. So it was getting darker (around 4:30) and I was just doing a few more casts before going home. Cast out the SP. Do a little bit of action then Bang, a good hit. There was a little bit of head shaking then zzzz off the fish went. This was the first fish to pull drag for a full 5 seconds. Then suddenly the line went slack. Line broke at the jig head. I had forgotten to un-tighten my drag after getting snagged a few times. This is the exact same thing that happened when I had my last decent fish on this rod. What could it of been? I hope it would of just been a tailor (they must of been around since I had a tail bitten off) but I hate to think it could of been a much better species. Unfortunately no pictures as I didn't bring my phone as I never thought I'd actually catch something. I'll be back on Friday afternoon to give them another crack. Thanks for reading.
16. So my boat has finally arrived. I knew that the bait tank was leaky around the bung for the tank and it does a slow trickle into the fuel tray at the back of the 445f. I'll get this sealed asap, shouldn't be too hard. This fuel tray area has its own bung's about half way up the transom so after the test run I undid the bungs and quite a bit of water came out. I accidentally had the bait tank going the whole time. I'm not worried about this as I know the exact cause and how to fix it however I also undid the standard bungs at the bottom of the transom and a bit of water also came out of those holes. Do you think this is just a case of the 445f's floor not being fully sealed or could I have a crack thats leaking into the hull? Aside from this I've been super happy about my first run. Boat is so stable and seems to handle the Saturday afternoon cruiser wash in the harbour very well. Cant wait to get into some snapper and kingy fishing. Thanks a lot, Will
17. Thought about that but adding up all the cost's I dont think its worth it and it'd need an upgrade in the next few months anyway (serious rust issues)
18. Replied to PM. The seller is bringing the boat down as we speak. Hoping to take for a test spin tommorow and will post some pictures On you P1's you can tow 250kg tare. So the trailer by itself has to weigh less then 250kg regardless of the load. I'd assume the boat is on a 150-200 kg trailer. The new trailer should be around 250kg. Thanks a lot for the help guys, Will
19. To be honest, I don't think I'm going to trailer it down at all. And unfortunately I can't tow a car trailer as on my p's I can only tow 250kg tare. The guy has offered to drive it down from port but for $500. If anyone knows somebody that'd be interested in driving to port and picking it up let me know. Or does anyone know the approx price for a u-ship? Thanks a lot, Will
20. Thats a good idea but looking at the websites for the places that hire them out, the trailer's seems to be about 500-800kg tare and also state the car needs a 2t + towing capacity. Also I cant tow anything more then 250 kg tare unfortunately. Thanks a lot, Will
21. Ok, will do that. However, would you think I'd be taking a serious chance if it came out at 800-825kg (50-75kg over the legal limit). I'd hate to go all the way up there for it to be 50 kg too heavy. I know it'd still be technically illegal but would the car be able to handle it (dropping gears going down hill instead of braking) for a single trip? Thanks a lot, Will
22. Damn, so it will be over the limit. I thought the hull of the 445 is 400kg + 160kg trailer + 110kg motor. Obviously there will be some electronics, wiring etc things I cant take out but with no fuel, no oars, no anchor, no downrigger etc and putting all that in the car, there wouldn't be an extra 100kg of stuff I cant see could there? I've never taken a boat to the weighbridge. Thanks a lot Fab, Will
23. Hi Frank, Thanks a lot for that. Thankfully the trailer comes with a spare but thanks for the offer. I've attached a picture of the trailer . The tires have also been listed as recently replaced and the pre-inspection report of the boat said that they were ok so hopefully thats all good. I think sticking to around 80 sounds good as well. However one thing I missed was that the trailer doesn't have any brakes . What would you estimate the weight of the boat + 70 2 stroke + trailer be? I'll make sure to take out all fuel, anchor etc and put it in the boot. I know it doesn't decrease the overall load on the cars brakes but hopefully I'd be able to get under the 750kg unbraked limit? Tow car is a captiva diesel with 1700kg towing, however I'm more concerned about going down hill? Should I try and use hill decent or just a low, consistent pressure on the brakes? Thanks a lot, Will
24. Hi Guys, I'm looking at possibly picking up a boat from port Stephens this weekend however the boat is on a pretty shot brooker trailer. It has some serious rust issues at the rear of the trailer and I'll be upgrading it as soon as I get home but I'm a little worried about the drive home. The wheels are those classic looking small rims with those thick tires. The seller said the bearings had been replaced but are there any precautions for the trip home. The boat is a 445f with a 70 2 stroke yam, the trailer is a brooker 14t. Does the weight of the boat and motor match what the trailer is made for? I can't find much info on the '14t'. What speed should I be going? What should I look out for when driving with it? Any help would be great, Thanks a lot, Will
25. Singles are great, much less hurt on the fish! I Use them for surfacing tailor on metals and feel's much better you haven't shredded their mouth when you throw them back. It makes me wonder why they ever started putting trebles on lures in the first place? Great report!
