1. Hi, I was wondering wether somebody could PM me the better fishing charters offered in Sydney. I went out again today, fully prepared and came back with, you guessed it, NOTHING! So I'm wanting to find a charter operator that would do a one on one and teach me about bait, SP's, structures, fishfinders, spots, time of day etc. Any recommendations would be very helpful (remember to PM not post). Thanks a lot, Will
2. Hahaha, yes didn't quite understand that. Thanks again for help guys
3. Well a big change of events happened. My friend got me a job at a Luxury retailer warehouse. Apparently it's a lot of fun! I'll see how it goes for the next few months and if it's not going that well I can easily start my search again. Thanks a lot for every bodies help! It's very much appreciated. Will
4. The main reason is that if I was looking at getting something I'd want it to be a centre console. Aside from the 445f (which, although it has good reviews, seems a bit too small for me) there aren't too many fibreglass centre consoles under 6m. The only other one I know is the Trophy 1703 but that is hard to find.
5. Derek, haven't been out unfortunately yet (been quite busy) but hoping to go out this Saturday. I heard of some people putting 2-4 strips on one hook at the same time. What are your thoughts on this? Is the extra bait you have to use worth the slight increase in a take?
6. Thanks mate, had a look and the only job offering in NSW at the moment is in Tamworth unfortunately. It's annoying because coles, woolworths, big retailers etc only do online applications and when you try and take a resumé to them they tell you they cant take it. Will keep an eye on the site though! Wow, what an offer. Unfortunately though I'm still studying at school (final year) so I cant really do any part-time or full-time work. Mainly looking to do busy weekends as a casual at a shop of some sort (tackle store etc). But honestly, thank you so much for even offering that kind of job, that is extremely nice of you. Yeah, I think if it is getting hard the best way in would be to ask for unpaid work for the exact reasons you mentioned. Will finish CV tonight. Thanks to everybody for their helpful tips and offers, it really means a lot. - Will
7. Great Idea. I'm going to try and go around with my mate this Friday as he is looking for a job as well (nothing to do with fishing). It will work well as he can go and hand in his resumé at a few places while I'll go and hand mine in at few. We will meet up after and have a chat about how it all went. Thanks! Very true. Another thing I was wondering is if they say 'thanks for the resumé, we will have a look at it and call you later', but then if it is 2-3 weeks later and I still haven't received a call would it be ok to call them and ask how my resumé is going or does that sound a bit like nagging? Thanks! Will take take you up on that offer once I try and get it all done. I'm away at the moment and only have my phone. Should hopefully have it done by Thursday night. Thanks!
8. Thank you very much for that Ian. I had a rough idea of a resumé but I think just a simple sheet like you mentioned above will work better. Will start writing it today. I think thats what I will probably look at doing first off, joining a chain store. And then, as a back up, I think I would still learn some useful fishing skills if I could get some casual work at the fish markets. Will let you all know how it goes. Thanks for the help, Will
9. Great summary, thanks for that. I've also been wondering about the way to utuilise dual batteries. Do many people charge up their batteries at home? I've never had a flat battery and if I want one more charged I just leave the engine running when I'm anchored and fishing but it might be more economical to just get a charger for the batteries.
10. Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has any knowledge in trying to get a job at a tackle store? I'm currently in Year 12 and I've been wanting to try and get some work (to try and keep busy as well as earn a bit of coin to try and buy some more fishing gear ). I'd like to work at something related to fishing as I think that if I really am passionate about it I will enjoy it more, compared to trying to enjoy flipping some burgers. If anyone has any tips on how to approach a store and ask about getting a casual position, or if you know a store looking for some people, let me know. I would be very appreciative. Thanks a lot, Will
11. Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knew much about these relatively new boats by Sea Jay. Looks like quite a nice boat which could be had for around 28k with a 75hp. They have a 15* deadrise. Only thing I'm wondering is wether the 2.14m beam is big enough for a 5m boat and if it will provide good stability? I'm not sure if I'm dreaming or not but I'd like to consistently fish long reef and occasionally get out to the fads but I'm not sure if this boat could do it. It has reverse chines and it looks like it has reverse chines down the centre of the hull as well? But aside for the smallish beam the standard features seem good for the price. Let me know if you have had any experiences with them. Thanks a lot, Will
12. Edit: that was a terrible mistake, mistook the dorsal fin for a front fin for some reason...
13. I had a nice yakka session last time i went out (3 weeks ago I think) and it was at about 7:30. Was there for about 20 minutes, got about 10-11 yakkas. Spent most of the time baiting. Only problem, all of them were huge so only kept 2 of them.
14. Hi, So since I don't have a downrigger I don't think I'll be trolling to many baits, thus if I catch some live squid I'll probably cut them up and fish them dead. So my main question is, what is the way you are meant to strip squid? I know the rig for fishing live yakkas when not trolling but I think squid strips would be better then a live squid if you aren't trolling? Any pictures of how to strip squid and the presentation of it would be great. Thanks a lot, Will
15. Thanks for the help! Hopefully should give me a good few years of fun. I'm going to be using it with some 7" Jerk Shads so hopefully they produce the goods. Will report on what fish wants to christen the new rod. Thanks a lot, Will
16. I got a tcurve blue water in 15-24kg. its 2.3m with sic guides so I should get some good casting distance. Using it with a sphereos 8000 SW with 40lb braid. Will give it a go next weekend. Thanks for all the replies!
17. Sounds good. Also speaking of 1/2oz do you guys mean 5/8oz? I cant seem to find and 1/2oz.
18. Awesome video mate, thats what I want to be doing soon haha. Order'd some 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz heads Thanks a lot, Will
19. Hi, I'm not sure wether SP retrieval techniques are regarded as much of a secret as certain fishing spots are, so excuse me if they are. I'm looking to get into some soft plastic's for kingies and have a few jerk shad's coming in 5" and 7" however for use around the harbour markers etc whats regarded as the most common technique for retrieval? A lot of people seem to have different ones. On a side note, what weight of a jig head should I be using for the harbour markers? In waters about 20m-10m Thanks a lot, Will
20.
Fair point about the guides however the ones you mention (carbon fibre?) seem to only be on light rods and very expensive. Not looking for the best of the best, but mainly something that will do the job well and last a long time.

Edit: The Tcurve Bluewater offshore rod looks good. It has sic guides, 2.3m long and has a 15-24kg line weight

21. I am 100% fine inside though. I can guarantee that to anybody.
22. Although expensive I'm also likin. The look of the terez black in 30-50lb braid. The model is: TZS69MHBLK Anyone know much about these rods?
23. Nice report mate. Can I ask what you use for burley?
24. Thanks a lot for the replies. Definitely given me food for thought. Maybe I will have to extend my budget a little but I'll drop by the tackle store today and see a few of the rods you've mentioned.
