  2. Why would u want to get rid of them??? Fantastic bait ... and even better when grilled on the bbq, preferably after its been marinated in lemon juice, olive oil & white wine for a few hours (dont forget the chilli and garlic either)
  3. Thx for the info all .. i think i might go have a shot down at breakfast creek one day this arvo and see if i cant get meself a few mullet to use for bait when i head outside.
  4. Gday raiders, Anyone know of any fishing options close to Quakers Hill? Carp, mullet, bass .. whatever Preferably within a 30min drive. I noticed a sign for fishing out near windsor/oakwood (behind the vineyard hotel) on the weekend but have no idea what sort of fishing it is .. im guessing carp or bass?

  7. Hmmmm ... what if they were just ornaments, decorating your office???
  8. Gday folks, After using nothing but braid for the past few years im looking at spooling my 15kg overhead outfit with some pre test mono as i will mainly be using it for trolling skirts out wide in the hope of a small marlin or tuna, and possibly some livebaiting on the surface. Can anyone recommend a particular brand? I need at least 350M and i've seen 500m spools of (igfa tested) 15kg line going as cheap as $25 and also well over $70. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated
  9. Before you know it you wont even have to ground the ball at all ... NFL here we come!
  10. Maybe swimmers should start realising that the ocean is Shark territory ... go to the pub instead ppl!
  11. EPIRB are only compulsory for boats longer than 8M that plan to go more than 2km offshore "An EPIRB or Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon is a simple and effective alerting and locating device that is complusory for all vessels 8m or more in length operating more than 2 nautical miles from the shore. However, it is recommended that all vessels venturing offshore carry an EPIRB."
  12. Check this out ppl http://www.smh.com.au/news/technology/bizt...3423148139.html
  13. A mate of mine had his snap 3 times in the first 3 months ... though he did get it replaced for free each time .. but not once did they snap while fighting a fish ... pulling braided line through the guides did it twicen not sure about the 3rd ... not good for a braid rod.
  14. I got the same combo, had it for about 6 months but i loaded it with 30lb braid ... i mainly use it for flicking SP's but i've had no problems so far and landed plenty of rats and a few legal kings ... a cheaper option to look at are the daiwa tierra rods .. u can get them for about $150 and my mate has one and loves it
  15. I got a combo for sale in the swap n sell section that may suit you http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=37798 Its mainly suited to bait fishing but it can also be used to flick SP's around - Will sell for $140 and im in drummoyne. send me a pm if interested

  17. Im sure all the beach swimmers out there would be pleased to hear about this rule
  18. Mate sharks are ALWAYS in the harbour!!! and always have been
  19. yea they were banned when i lived in the area about 15yrs ago we used to use tangles to catch em ... bait with a hook, wrap a big birds nest of a tangle (approx 15lb line) around the bait. throw it out on a handline and when you feel em starting to pull the bait, let em play with it for a minute or two before trying to pull em in. alot of the times they will get a claw stuck in the tangle so they cant let go
  20. i got a 5.8M fibreglass runabout with a bimini and the all round white light at the back of the boat (which was put in b4 i got the bimini and sits about 1 foot above the engine) doesnt comply so i stick a long flouro light up in one of the rod holders in the rocket launcher that then plugs in to the 12v ciggy lighter, when i go out early in the morning. its not an allround light i.e. it only faces backwards, but it does put out about 100 times more light than any alround light ive seen (it lights up the deck like daylight almost) so i reckon thats gotta be good enough for now ... tho i do plan to wire up an actual allround light into the middle rocket launcher before starting any serious night fishing sessions as i know there be some maritime officer that will pin me for it .. especially in the harbour
  21. Hey brickman .. have you been getting any bonnies of late? i havent got one in aaaaaages. Used to get em all the time trolling CD7 & CD9's along south head, but i havent got anything there for at least 2 yrs now ... granted i hardly try their anymore as im usually too busy chasing those stupid kings. But back to the bonnies ... do u only use em for bait??? Coz i reckon they are just about the best sashimi you can get
  22. I'll second the 30lb braid, but id back it with a small amount of 20lb mono instead

    Sharks

I've caught both a mako and hammerhead (both about 1M long) and they were both great on the table. I cut the fins off them as soon as i caught them, as i'd heard thats what you do. No danger with the hammerhead, mouths are too small, but a bit different with the mako ... however i found that a few stabbies in the gills while it was at the side of the boat slowed it down rather nicely for me
  24. Mate its been well over a month since i've had a kingie take a live yakka ... and i have em out pretty much all the time ... been getting tons of rats with plastics and frozen squid strips ... but absolutely zilch on the yakkas!
  25. You generally want soft tips for the light stuff, say upto 5/8 ounce (lighter the softer) .. cant help you out with the tapering though .. i think it has to do with the whippiness or in your case how soft it is .. but cant say for sure as ive never looked into it
