  1. Just dont use Sydney & postcode of 2000 as that wont work ... i used Watsons Bay, 2030 and that works fine Or you can use the BOM gadget .. which also gives a 7 day forecast .. just search the gadgets section for 'BOM'
  2. considering its very likely they could end up sitting in a hot shipping container (in the plastic wrapping) for a few months i reckon it wont hurt em ... only negative i can think of is that it will affect your grip on the rod. But my personal view is that leaving it on would be like leaving the plastic wrapping on a new lounge ... insanity
  3. Never tried drummer but the most common mistake most people make with fish is to overcook it!
  4. When the general public arent allowed to vote!!! In the words of the great Kent Brockman "Democracy doesnt work!"
  5. Spot on ... Greenies would love to use those sort of comments to ban fishing! But for those who do keep eels for eating or bait ... quickest easiest way to stop en wriggling - bash the end of their tail as that is where the nerve endings are

    Patonga

Mate if you go down to patonga wharf at night id suggest taking a rod and a few squid jigs as i've seen a few squidleys pulled up from there at night.
  7. Howdy raiders, Hit the harbour with spongy and his mate on firday and this how it went: Furst up we threw some placcies at various markers for kings and got 2 small rats. Gave up on that and decided to have a look outside around Nth head, tried for kings again but no louck there so i decided we should have a crack with some hard bodies for bonito or tailor. We ended up getting 8 bonito on small hard body lures around Nth head .. only smallish sizes but still big enough for a feed. I then lost the lure that was getting the most strikes and whaddya know the bonnies decided theyd had had enough. Went went back inside the harbour and tried a few marks for kings for no luck so we cruised back past a hole we spotted earlier, spongy notices some arches on his new sounder so i dropped a live yakka to the bottom and 30 seconds later i was on ... to a lovely John Dory my first ever and not a bad size at around the 45cms mark. Only managed to land 1 or 2 more rat kings after that .. but a great day in all as it wasnt spent at work Will post pics when i get em sent to me Heres a pic of a bonnie and the JD
  8. sounds about right to me
  9. In my view our best option (as fisherman) is to give support to Marine Parks ... but we need to vehemently oppose the "no recreational fishing zones"

    Buying A Boat

I'd say it would be close to a tonne My 5.8M fibreglass runabout = roughly 1600kgs (i think) Falcon station wagon pulls it without any trouble
  12. Thats awsome ... top link jacko
  13. Its what i like to call ... pub weather!!!
  14. well looks like this purchase will have to wait another month or two now ... just spent $700 getting the car serviced ...
  15. Great response SZ, just what i was after Thx heaps - and i'll definately give Pete a call when the purchase time arrives
  16. Gday Folks, I'm looking to purchase a new rod and reel in the next month opr two, mainly to be used for jigging knife jigs etc in water 100-150M deep, Id also like to be able to use it for livebaiting for big kingies and/or cubing for tuna. I'll be loading the reel with 80lb braid and i'd like it to hold at least 200M ... and it has to be a spinning/threadline reel, as i find them much easier and more comfortable to reel in consistently. Thanks in advance
  17. Yea i done that a few times ... its really fun when the plastics cost a few bucks each grrrr To catch em keep ur rig simple, i prefer a two hook paternoster run straight off the mainline, using size 8-10 long shank hooks. Dont use swivels (esp brass/gold ones) as they will eat them ... literally ... and when they do u lose two hooks and a sinker everytime Also if ur planning to catch them for a feed, use a net to land them as quite often you will only lip hook them and they will get off as soon as u try to lift them out of the water
  18. Never caught or fished for Dorey yet, so cant say for sure But ... as a general rule of thumb, if the fish doesnt have teeth, then they will swallow bait fish head first
  19. Probably help if you let ppl know what sort of fish you are looking at keeping. Poddy mullet are supposed to be pretty easy to keep, only ever kept yakkas myself and they lasted about 2-3 months without changing the water
  20. Theres some monster bream at the marina at birkenhead .. mainly coz u cant fish there. Used to know a guy who worked at the marina and he reckons you can hand feed some of the big bream
  21. Further proof that you should need a licence to breed these days!!!
  22. It would only relate to landabsed fisho's Why they do it - most likely to keep the area clean and prevent any fishy smells from developing, thus annoying tourists etc Also, most marinas i know of are no fishing zones
