  1. Nice! How deep were you and how far off the bottom were you trolling?
  2. That is a great show. Need to catch a large salmon and try it under a balloon like they do.
  3. I have tried a few times while out on the boat to drop a live (Yellowtail) down but am yet to catch anything. I wanted to check what rigs people are using as I have been hooking them in the back and dropping them over the side with no weight at anchor or on the drift. They seem to hang out mid winter or go under the boat. Im usually around and out of Botany Bay. Should I be adding a sinker, paternoster style? When trolling a live bait, should I also add a sinker to get it deeper and what speed should I troll? I have also been catching a few squid and am keen to know how to troll the head and tentacles around as I keep the rest to eat. Do I troll the heads weighted as well? Thanks for the advice.
  4. Mine are Sharkskin brand and have a fleece lining. Check online for them.
  5. I use a pair of wet suit pants and find them very warm and comfortable. A pair of wetsuit dive boots can work as well to keep you warm.
  6. I have ski hooks on my quintrex and the bait board can stay in place
  7. Kia Ora Recurve. I wasn't sure if anyone had picked up on the name. I will definitely be taking the head torch and using the Nav lights. Will be chasing Snapper in the dark this winter and hope to avoid the passing Whales.
  8. I am keen to get my boat out very early in the morning while dark. I know about the safety lights required but was wondering do people use spotlights or anything to light the way in front of the boat? Is it just a matter of hoping there is no log in the water or should i have a battery spotlight. I was out fishing off the shore last week near a boat ramp and watched 2 boats go out in the dark. 1 boat had no safety lights at all and the other had the required lights but no spotlight. They did have head torches however.
  9. These are brilliant! Now I need to figure out how to play them through the car stereo
  10. Good to know. I did score 2 of the nemo jigs free at the boat show so still have 1 left. Will keep a look out for more at the next show
  11. Went for a quick shot at a squid at about 6am. Started casting and was a bit frustrated to see another guy catch 2 while i kept getting snagged. After 40 minutes i picked this one up. The jig was a freebee from last years boat show which I lost 2 casts after catching this, so packed up and went home smiling.
  12. Hey Mate, I live near you and am heading out tomorrow in a boat if your keen. PM your number if your keen. cheers
  13. I am looking for someone to join me to come out on the bay tomorrow. Will meet at my place in Maroubra and head to Foreshore around 6am. I have a 5m Quintrex so can get out the heads if the weather is ok. I have not fished a lot in Botany so don't expect a lot of success. PM me your phone details if interested.
  14. I have recently purchased a Hook 5 Chartplotter which comes with Navionics+ charts on a micro SD card. The question i have: Is there a PC mapping app that can allow you to enter coordinates in your PC and look up spots and then upload it to your card to then put in the plotter? Navionics did have a PC application a few years ago but have stopped it and i cant get it anymore.
  15. The main issue I always see at this ramp is people often park their cars on the ramp or at the top and go for walks. This blocks it from getting used. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  16. I have caught whiting on them have cut them in to 1 inch pieces and the whiting take them no problem. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  17. I have purchased a 5m boat and now need some new reels. I am wanting a reel to target Kingfish with livebaits and maybe to troll with. I was looking at a Shimano Sustain but not sure on what size. Do i get a 4000, 5000 or 6000 and what breaking strain braid? Also what rod to match. If there is a better option than a Sustain let me know. Now also the same question for flicking soft plastics from a boat. Is a Sustain 2500 ok? With what rod and braid?
  18. Salt away have an adapter on their site you can buy that you can use to plug into muffs Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  19. I have an icom that I forgot was in my garage. Turned it on after a year and it still had a charge. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  20. So those running a 90hp Etec is there much in the way of smell/fumes? With kids who are susceptible to sea sickness i'd be keen to have no fumes or smoke like the older 2 strokes.
  21. I'm interested in this topic as well as was going for the Quintrex. Any Savage owners out there?
  22. I am going to buy a new boat in a few months which will probably be a Quintrex 490 Bowrider. Am trying to decide on an Etec or a Suzuki. We will do a bit of Trolling with the family and a few runs outside on nicer days. I have heard that Etecs are not that good for trolling but hoping to hear from a few people that use them. I also need to decide on size where i am leaning towards a 90hp (max for boat) but would a 75 be sufficient? Maximum load would be 2 adults and 2 kids under 5 and that would be rare. Most of the time it would be 1 or 2 adults fishing.
  23. I will be staying in Forster from Dec 19th for 2-3 weeks. Am keen to get out fish with a few people or try a few new techiniques for me such as crabbing or prawning. Can pay for fuel if we head out on a boat and have my own gear for in the lake or outside. Am also up for learning how to fish the breakwall if there is anyone keen to show me.
  24. I am having trouble getting any casting distance using 6lb FC. I havent really fished line below 14lb before (and that was braid), so it is is new for me. I have a reel spooled only with FC tied straight to a squid jig or jig head, targeting squid and bream, but was getting much better distance on the heavier braid. Is this normal? Should i go back to heavier braid main line and light FC leader?
