  1. Wallabies trailing the Springboks 13-7 at half time. Quite a physical game.
  2. It was great to meet a few Raiders while the kids and I were out there this arvo. With the swell at Patonga I am not keen to relaunch and come back over tonight unfortunately. The good news is that the kids had a ball. Usually I struggle to get them to come fishing with me, but 10 mins in the welcoming and infectiously enthusiastic company of the Swordies and the others who were on the mothership and they are both keen for more! That alone was worth the trip over [emoji3] I reckon you'll have to deal with a house boat of kiwi kids next year! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. All Blacks 39, Pumas 18 at full time (if anyone cares) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. Some nice fish coming in. Good work raiders! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Actually I think I have found a wiring diagram that makes it a bit clearer. http://s87.photobucket.com/user/pvbpics/media/wiring2_zpscdb768cd.jpg.html Basically this shows the battery switch broken down into three switches which clarifies it a bit. If I read this correctly it will need to be in Engine or Both to actually start and run the motor and when it the house position you will be able to run things wired off the distribution panel but won't be able to start. The VSR only comes into play if you are running the engine and the switch is in the Both position. Is that correct?
  6. Hi All, I've been thinking that my next project for the boat would be to add a dual battery setup. I've been reading up on this, including the other posts on the subject here. But I am still a bit confused. I've looked at an array of battery switches and VSRs. I read a previous thread here that was basically asking if you have the switch do you need the VSR as well. I've also come across a few kits online that include botha switch and a VSR. My question is a slightly different twist. If you have the VSR - why do you need the switch at all? Isn't the VSR just doing automatically what the switch allows you to do manually anyway? Or am I missing something. Thanks in advance. Craig

    Mud crabs

Great info - had been wondering the same myself. I knew they were more of a summer option, just didn't know why. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Thanks Steve, Some great advice there. I am happy to share what I do know. I have has reasonable success with flathead on the drift and have a few tricks for coaxing out bream when other tactics are not working Cheers, Craig Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. I did this to some frozen one more to try out the process than anything else. I would not say it improved the bait but it did toughen it up. I used some of these the other day putting a half pillie on a two hook gang behind the boat while drifting for flatties. It was tough enough that I could just leave it in the holder while I fished ahead of the drift with soft plastics. It was tough enough to survive between drifts it it didn't get hit and I caught 2 out of 3 flathead in just over an hour on it. One was undersized, but the other one was a decent fish nudging 50 cms. Keen to try this on some fresh ones but have not found them anywhere. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Evening Raiders, My name is Craig and I am 40. I've been fishing land based around Sydney as time permits for the last 8 years or so and brought my first boat earlier this year. I've been entirely self taught and have learned a lot by reading, watching videos basically trying new things. While I have some success my results are fairly mixed. I would really like to spend some time learning boat fishing skills and tactics from someone who has the knowledge share. Some things I am specifically wanting to improve are: Finding and catching bait species Winter snapper Trolling, jigging and other techniques that you can only do from a boat I am based near Woy Woy and generally fish in Brisbane Waters, Lower Hawksbury and just outside Broken Bay. I can fish most Sundays and I am flexible on time, but could also do an evening session on a week night if planned ahead. I have my own gear (though may need more for some of the things listed above) and boat (older model 5m half cabin). I am also happy to go on someone else's boat if that is easier. Happy to share costs for fuel and bait either way. Cheers, Craig
  11. Here is a photo of my one in action. My mate gave me his wife's old iPad for free, I already owned Navionics and got the SP-200 as part of a promo. The only new purchase was the case. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. I tried this tonight and it was really fresh and tasty. Quick and simple as well - so really ticked all the boxes. Flathead with Cherry Tomato Sauce
  13. Thanks John'O' I will have to give that a go. I think storing them in the freezer will have a higher WAF (wife acceptance factor). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. I've heard of is but never tried it. Do you pack them in salt then put the back in the freezer? Or do you put them in the fridge to cure, then freeze them?Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. I did this in my Yak and I use the same sounder with a different transducer in my boat. It works just as well through the hull in the yak as it does in the water. As others have pointed out you will not get a temp reading. Other than that the performance is the same. Rather than use water which will spill and evaporate I made quite a snug transducer shaped cutout in a square of foam. I glued that into the inside of the hull. I let that set over it and then filled the cutout with Selley's All Clear. You need to be very careful not to get any air bubbles in the All Clear. To do this put the nozzle against the hull and squeeze slowly to fill the hole. Then just gently press the transducer home and leave it over night again. Using All Clear is a one way trip, but it does work a treat. HTH Craig Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. Nice - my promo unit arrived today so I must have just snuck in. Can't wait to give it a go. Looks like I have project for the weekend. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. Very nice catch. Nice release, too. Good on ya. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. I love the idea of moving all the smarts into an app on a tablet. I noticed on the front page of the navionics.com.au website there is a free offer where you can fill out a form and they might send you a free t-box. I filled it out and have had an email back saying they are going to send me one, so will be really interested to see how well it works. If it works well I will be investigating the best way to waterproof and mount the old iPad into the boat. Craig Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
