  5. The cousin and I have been trying to T up a trip to go out fishing for some 3 months now with him being an avid Harbour tragic and fishing the nights and me a Botany Boy and prefer early morning/day it was hard to get together… Well last Friday the moons aligned and we were able to negotiate a Friday arvo/night trip in the Hrabour. So we get to Rose Bay at approx 5ish armed with WA pillies, Hawkesbury Squid, chicken breast and cooked prawns one could say we had all bases covered & ready for a long night. Ayman being the harbour buff decides that we could try a spot near Shark Island for some bream and possibly the odd jew. So we anchor up and get a few rods out mixing up the ammo with pillies and chicken breast. As the sun declines on this spectacular harbour, the view on the horizon alone and just enjoying our blessed waterways would have sufficed for the entire night with the need to catch a thing. However God Almighty had other plans. The night starts at a reasonable pace with a few decent Bream boated and then shortly after it started to steadily quieten down with our baits MIA and a few getting hit on the way down we agree to try and target some livies and see if anything big is lurking around. So we rig up and land a few yakkas that go straight back over. I end up with my two rods over the edge with livies with hours passing with a few of them being absolutely annihilated but not too much action on the rods above. So we persisted and kept at it till about 9ish when I feel a tug at my rod and then the reel screams with a little run I grab the rod and strike, but to no avail… So I get a fresh Yakka on and send it out to the frontline and at this stage I putt the rod down & I start washing my hands and face not paying attention to the rod at all and as Murphy’s law would predict as soon as your mind and attention has been shifted to anything else other than your rod WHAMMMO!! The rod buckles over and I jump at it grabbing to the pleasant sound of the my reel screaming and screaming and screaming some more zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Ok crap need to tighten the drag this thing is going to spool me, Ok crap is this the rod with the 8lb leed or the 14lb leed……? Ok crap how many knots did I use to secure the hook…….? Thoughts are racing through my mind as this monster to which at this stage I have no idea what it could be is screaming away and just demanding authority…. After the initial run I set the drag compose myself and my cuz has kindly removed all other lines and got the Gaff and net prepd. I think to myself at this stage ok Fish whatever the situation maybe it’s just you against me if god wills your coming home with me… And right on Queue the infamous head shakes that I have read so much about and have been told to expect…Oh what a Feeling such a Brut powerful animal… I start clawing back whatever line I can, inch by inch… and just as I think I’m gaining some ground BANG he shoots off again and takes all that line back plus interest… the head shakes again and I can now feel the serious weight behind this thing… Cuz I think this is a JEWY my voice as composed as can be echoes… I start digging in and gain some reasonable ground I get him close enough to see the leeder and he sees the boat and goes ‘I don’t think so’ and BOOM off his goes again diving deep down into the abyss the rod hanging bent over the edge half way in the drink. Good 7 or so minutes have now passed and I’m feeling him starting to tire out but at the same time I feel the hook slipping; now externally I am in good shape internally its code red… I start gently and persistently bringing him to the surface with each turn of the reel adding to the suspense, ‘am I going to land this guy’ and ‘what is it‘ and ‘how big is it’???? We get leeder and I tell the cuz get ready! A few more reels and raising of the rod and PLONK the most beautiful of sights sits up alongside the boat, with its amazing colours shining as it reflects off the moonlit harbour waters… Not only to my elation was this a Jew fish but a mighty decent one to add. Now the last task is to safely boat it to which I can thank my cousin for who scooped it up with the net and with two hands gently lifted it over into hull of the boat… High fives screaming and sheer joy as an epic battle has come to an end… Boat: 13-14ftft dinghy Rod: 6lb-10lb Daiwa Reel: Daiwa Regal 3000 Line: 10lb fireline braid and 14lb vanish Bait: Live Yakka Length: 1mtr Weight: Guesstimate 9kg – felt like 100 Experience: Priceless!! Cheers Bill

  17. GDAY Raiders, I went out yesterday for my first fish of the Summer as I have been overseas for most of the summer and have been far far far away from any Fishing and any water. Hit the Bay at about 1pm and got some action with a few undersized rats - which was fun... then got some keeper bream, whiting and Flatties and ended the day wit a new PB Bream coming in at exactly 45cm.. Was stoked with that but even more happy to just be back on Sydney waters, with weather and scenery that is blessed by God Almighty... Feels SOOO GOOOD to be BACK!!
