  1. Hi fadz North and South head both have a few rock spots that can fish very well. Access ranges from a rock scamble to full on rockclimbing, ladders and ropes. The platforms them sleves vary from reasonably safe (Old Mans Hat) to down right suicidal. I suggest you team up with someone who knows the area well, the death toll of rock fishers from those two headlands would be the highest in Oz over the years for shear numbers. David
  2. Humm, undersized jewies in MH, maybe the lack of nettign is starting to pay off. A few more years maybe, could see some good numbers rahter than 1s and 2s? David
  3. As most of my squidding is done for southerns in <3mtr of water I use 1.8 pink yozuris in the classic cloth pattern, there is a new one out with a darkended eye and glowing belly strip that I am trialing. They have a very slow sink rate which suits my style (dead sticking) of squidding. In stronger current or wind I use the 1.8 Daiwa Esmarelldas which sink much quicker. If they fail I root through my squid jig box and use whatever. I only use the cheap jigs in conditions where I am likely to loose them. I usually get about 10 tips out of a jig untill it is chewed up and cover in black muck and the cloth fabric rots. David Find yourself a well lit warfe and sight fish for the squid, you will learn more about squid behaviour in 1 hour, than a years worth of casting jigs blind. David
  4. Thats one hairy looking spot. A real thrill in any sort of sea I am sure. Rather than going heavy on the kings try a light drag and get them to head out onto the sand, if you keep the drag light enough they will not be able to rub you off, bring em back in 30 mins later and you will have a better chance. The only king over 10kg I have seen strong armed from the rocks was gaffed as it hit the bait. Try softly, softly. Of course heavy handed makes for better bust ups, great to watch so long as it is someone else loosing the fish. Lovely looking pig water there BTW. David
  5. Nice work out of the yak wobbler David
  6. Its no coincidence that most rock fishing fatalities are during a making swell, in such conditions rock fishing is just plain stupid. It's even pretty frightening to surf in a making swell as the wave behind is always bigger than the one that has just come through, you never know when it is going to go beyond your competence level.
  7. Go the yakkers, yep jeplous as hell, still waiting for that first yak jew. He busted up another on the same day. David
  8. Nice snapper Wig, great to see the yaks still out. David
  9. Now thats what I call deep water jigging, I am amazed that you can still feel the jig in 400mtr of water.
  10. Ouchh! what a great fishing trip. I want one of those!
  11. Ah very nice. I love ppig fishing also, it is short and brutal. David
  12. Standby for 'strike zone - Sydney Harbour Man Eaters' coming to a DVD store near you.
  13. Well done, they are pretty few and far between in the lake. I only have one to my name for Narra. David
  14. I wondered how long it would be before someone had a serious go at the bitey around Cliefden. Trust Al to be the one. The pick of him totally loaded up on the 24kg outfit in the harbour is great. Now ehere did I put that shark shield? David
  15. You guys are the shark masters, I just look in wonder.
  16. I love the photo, it blurs out the location beautifully
  17. Well done a nice looking jewey there. David

  19. I expect it will go up on U-tube, the yak community has been going nuts, I was out there yesterday in the yak and bled a few kings over the side but had a body surf instead this morning. The yakkers were suitiably freaked out as it chased 2 down who started to head in after it dissappeared for a short while (this happened after the TV footage shown). It also rubbed a few tinnies. David
  20. Check out the channel 7 news apparently some yaks and tinnies were harrassed by a big GWS this morning in the fog off longy. David
  21. Paddled out to Longy this morning in the company of no less than 17 yaks plus a flotilla of boats. Pulled a 56cm trevally early then the rats showed up. Caught a vast number of rat kings on squid strips and SP's. Dropped my second last squid strip and hooked up to a better fish, after a bit of a fight 73cm of skinny king came into the boat, at least it was legal. Next drop with the last of the squid and I hooked up solid again, for a few minutes it was a stalemate with neither I or the fish gaining any line, eventually 83cm of king came into the yak. A good feed and good fun in excellent conditions. David 56cm trev The start of the rats Garry hooked up to a king, nice conditions today Dinner
  22. Nice jew Jason. I fished the front of the harbor for a few choppers and a couple of big southerns. David
  23. Ah persistence pays off. Well done. David
  24. Took a punt last night on there being a brief weather window this morning and rigged the yak. Awoke to a still morning with light drizzel. Headed to cliefden in serach of sighted by not caught kingys. Launched into a glass off and headed around the warf looking for bait. Fist cast produced a small cuttle, second a small squid and a few casts later another squid. Also dropped one. Berlyed for yakkas but they were nowhere to be seen. After 30 mins decided to chase kings. Heaps of bait in the bay at cliefden but nothing going through it. Rigged one of the squid for slow trolling and headed around the navel base to the big can. About 100mtrs later the squid got hit. I set the hooks and line failed to peel off the reel like it was supposed to. A some what one sided fight resulted in a 40cm tailor in the boat. I headed off to some of the usual kingy haunts for no result, saw some of the best kingy looking arches I have seen on the hummingbird sadly the squid went unmolested. Headed back to the can and dropped a squid strip as well as the livey, the strip went off on the first drop, again line failed to peel as a 40cm flathead came up. Then my weather window closed as the southerly picked up and made the drift unpleasent. Headed back towards cliefden and cast an SP deep around the bait hoping for a few more flathead. Finally pulled into the cove between the pool and the navel warf for a few last casts of the SP. I have always been optimistic that flathead will hold here but never got anything before. First cast produced a 36cm flattie that went back, followed by another oncast two and a third on cast three, plus another on the second drift. All released, as I drfited into the beach as the rain started. As I pulled the yak out a mass of bait was blown against the pool, again nothing harrassing it. Water 20c, very clear.
