  1. I paid anout $250 for mine for a 175 so maybe $180-$200 new. Permatrims are the best in my opinion. They will take the top speed down a tad and you're right, some boats are better without them. Second hand I reckon its worth $70-$80. Make sure you save the mounting bolts and nuts.
  2. I haven't used that Branzino since its spell inthe water.. I looked at it a minute ago and it isn't silky smooth but still seems fine. I don't like that Inox. Too thick and sticky. It attracts dirt and grime too.. I have found that a good gentle wash is really all that is needed. Also, I guess you can't expect reels to maintain their "out of the box" condition once they start getting used.
  3. Your $400 will only buy 32,000 JPY.. Their Stradic equivalent is called a Biomaster. They are 29,900 JPY so no, not worth it. Stock up on lures and squid jigs.
  4. Hmmm .. I am not sure if they are lower quality. They all run the same bearings and gears. There are a few minor exceptions on bearing typs but again, minimal difference. The main diffeences tend to be handles, spools and drag knobs. I have 10 Stellas of various model number. I have 6 x JDMs (Japanese domestic market) and the rest are US/Australian models (think FD & FE). There isn't any difference in terms of performance or longevity.
  5. Mate.. I had my Stella SW 10000 HG done and it made it worse. It is now sticky and when the fish runs, the drag is jerky. In saying that, I had a smaller 3000 HG Stella done after I smoked the drag up at Melville on big Jew and it is much better. The question is, is your current drag jerky and rough?
  6. The JPY isn't doing us any favours at the moment. Yamashita Lives are 900 JPY (about 12 Aussie bucks. Be worth it to stock up!!
  7. Get the braid dude.. so much thinner for its breaking strain and much easier to cast. For Jews, braid is not essential but personally, I wouldn't use anything else. If you are fishig around rocks, be aware that braid does not have good abrasion resistance. Also, you will need a new set of knots for braid. The old 7 turn blood knot doesn't work!!
  8. I am bloody lazy and don't retie all knots before every trip. I think if you fish often, retieing before every trip whilst diligent, may be non essential.
  9. This type of fishing is called "Tenkara". Google it for info on tackle from OS. You could probably get a local rod builder to knock you up a pole from a good quality Steelhead blank in the 12-15 foot range.
  10. Prepare to be deeply disappointed at the lack of product available through your local dealer. Moreover, what is available is way overpriced. Look to the web for suppliers from the US. Rod building is not that popular in Australia hence there is no market for supplies.
  11. Nice work there Jim.. seems to be a few poking their heads up!!
  12. There are some absolute brutes hanging around. Very fussy though.
  13. Thanks Hodgey.. and to you and yours also mate. Cheers
  14. Freshly caught butterflied squid did the damage.. I had a live squid down next to it which didn't get a touch!!
  15. Gidday Raiders, Got a metre King out of the Harbour last Saturday. Been a shitty start to the season though. Hope she fires up soon!!
  16. Thanks for your input gents.. good to know it is a feasible option. I have just ordered some S12 1/0 Gamas and 6mm split rings. I really hate what trebles do to the fish.
  17. Thanks Dude.. why the second split ring?
  18. Gidday All, I am looking to change my trebles over to singles on all my slice/slug type lures for Bonnies, Salmon, Taylor etc... I find the trebles are not conducive to catch and release in many situations. Has anyone done this? I am looking to put a single 1/0 or 2/0 on the split ring of 7 to 15 gram lures.
  19. Yep .. water quality in the harbour is ordinary at the moment. That green tinge is no good. Should clear if we get a couple of good weeks weatherwise.
  20. Yep.. I am lead giutar and back up (part time lead) vocals in a dodgey cover band called the Smashed Crabs.
  21. You write well for a Kindy Student, Cameron.
