  1. That is an Amberjack , not a Samson Fish. Samson's have a mottled pattern and a squareish forehead when juvennile. There are heaps of Amberjacks around at the moment. They fight like a King and taste great too. Amberjack Juvennile Samson Fish
  2. Cherry pooped!!! Well done Stewie. Imagine a 60cm model!!
  3. What epoxy are you using? Bunnings don't carry the right stuff. You need Threadmaster, Jack Erskine or Flexcoat (there are many others also but these are the most popular). These are all two part epoxies which are mixed at exactly 50/50. They have a 25 minutes pot lift and are self levelling. They set up in 2 hours and full cure around 24-36 hours. You must rotate the rod on a small rotisserie during the first two hours to eliminate droops and sags. Usually two coats on a spinning rod and up to four coats on a heavy game rod. The reason your white thread went clear is that you didn't use colour preserver or, NCP thread. PM me if you need info on where to get these products and for more info on how to use them.
  4. Awesome mate.. I reckon there are some absolute brutes around at the moment.
  5. Awesome Lads.. just awesome. They are huge Flatties and excellent to see them swim again.
  6. The Kingfish will always find any weakness in your gear in the first 2 seconds of being hooked up!! How are your fingers after handlining him in?
  7. My mate, The Elk, has a Saragosa as does Winkley and they regularly catch Kings with them. They are good bang for you buck!! T Curve, not good.
  8. Mate.. thats a huge Flounder!! Bit of lemon and pepper....mmmmm!!
  9. Thats as good as it gets!!! Well done.

  11. Ahh... the wrinkled one chimes in!! Yes Stokesy, some big fish around that day!!
  12. Yes.. little tim tam sized livey.

  15. What do you mean? Is it the guide ring that is cracked?
  16. Thats a cracker. Really nice photo also.. Methinks I need a new camera!!
  17. Gidday Raiders, My good mate Stokes and I hit the Harbour on February 6th for some cracking action. We caught around 25 Kings over a 4 hour period. Many rats, half a dozen 78-86's and one brute at 110cm and 12kg (weighed on my Shimano Bogas - not sure how accurate they are). For all you Squid challenged anglers out there, you will be pleased to know that the big one had a stomach full of yakkas!! One of the 80's also had Silver Biddies loaded into it along with Whiting in the other couple. Seems they feed on all manner of bait. Here are the photos.
  18. Yes.. she hoots. nearly 60mph..
  19. Just read the rest of the post and realised you have given some length details. Your spacings and guide sizes should be (mm to the next guide size): Tip 170 to size 10 170 to size 10 190 to size 10 220 to size 10 250 to size 12 270 to size 16 290 to size 20 330 to size 25 360 to size 40 (or 30 depending on reel spool diameter) Make sure you post pics of the finished product!!
  20. Bennoz, The underbinds stop the guide feet digging into the blank when it is loaded up. Regarding spacing of the guides, what is the rod line rating, length and butt set up? I'll give you the spacings. You also need to prp the guide feet bi filing them to a nice gently taper. This will eliminate cracking at the guide feet.
  21. Long rods are great. I mush prefer them. I have a couple of 8 footers which I use out to of the boat. My squid rods are 8'6"to 9' long. Handy for avoiding the outboard etc when a good fish is hooked. Also, more fun!! That said, on heavy gear, long rods can work against the angler.
  22. Hi Mate. I recently had an aluminium hull done up. The paint stripper worked a treat (and you could do it yourself). Here are the before and afters. If you want to talk about it, PM me.
  23. Hi mate, I reckon the Tcurve is no good. I have a 15kg Blue Water spin model and it is sloppy, heavey (honestly, its tip must be 8mm diamenter), has no underbinds, cheap reel seat, crappy epoxy job and a ferrule which never locks in properly and if it does, you can't get it apart. Try a Carpenter or Smith. Alternatively, get one made!!
  24. No Slinky.. I still have the Carbontex washers in it but, it is sitting under a pile of crap in the corner of my garage. I must change it back and get it out on the water again. BTW, I have the new Saltiga and have managed to wreck that drag also on harbour Kings. I think that regardless of the reel, fishing locked up drags isn't good for reels in general. They need to mak a reel with no drag at all!!
  25. Thats a craking flatty.. love the photo of her in the water.
