  1. http://tackletactics.com.au/Species/Saltwater/Snapper/Deep-Water-Snapper-on-Plastics this may give you some pointers
  2. there are jigheads specifically designed for this the weight isn't fixed to the head can't remember what they're called
  3. The salt water has been playing tough recently but have started to get a few fish again started with a pre night shift cast under a local bridge the bream were herding up prawns against a wall simply slow rolled a crank past them and straight away I am becoming a fan of the savage gear cranks then it was the morning session casting hardbodies around my regular haunts slow start but then what I thought was a flathead come out and nailed my lure right in front of me about 30 seconds later I thought the flattie had been smoking ice and then I saw the fish it was a mid 30's black spot cod always happy to catch a cod and yes he was released unharmed next I hit the tree first cast small bream why did I photo this bream, when I was dragging him across the surface one of the biggest mangrove jacks aka red satan tried to eat him twice this must be the luckiest bream alive to not be in 2 halves I still shake thinking about the size of that jack it was huge finished off with a nice session on the moses perch these guys always provide quality entertainment cheers for reading Dave
  4. The bit of rain we've had and some sudden warm weather got me and my mate fired up for another bass session. The water looked better than last time with a bit of flow and a lot clearer. Fished a different launch point to last time but still the same river. Didn't take long before we had both hooked fish unfortunetly mine fell off beside the canoe probably about a 30cm fish. We slogged up through the rapids and portage to the secluded pool upstream had a few casts on the way for a couple of miss hits from small fish. The sun was still a bit high so concentrated casts on the shady edges, landing a perfect cast before I could even say "that deserves a fish" the rod was loaded up and reel screaming after some fancy rod work had him out in open water and a beauiful fish was in the net he only went 38cm but he was thick We kept working the shaded edges and the small fish started coming in a good sign of a healthy fishery put a cast right up against a big submerged log working the lure along the side and sure enough the hit and run was insane the fish had me run under the log to god knows where before I could even blink went as hard as I could and managed to turn him only to pull the hooks disapointed but thats bass fishing "go hard or your favourite lure doesn't come home" it went a bit quiet so switched to the zman grub just flicking it around shady structure and after a few miss hits came up solid on a beast which was no bass but a monster eel luckily he chewed me off before he wrapped me up in the timber then on a cast in about a foot of water had a very subtle take thinking small I loaded up for all hell to break loose the fish ran me all over the place and finally a reasonable fish surfaced this one measuring 37cm again thick across the shoulders and that was it the fish just stopped chewing still a fun little session cheers for reading Dave
  5. can't help you guys with specific locations but last time I was in Sydney saw loads of pylons on bridges wharves etc.. loaded with bream begging for a cranka crab to be casted at them, look for the structure covered in barnacles the nastier the better.... urban landbased bream spinning is very challenging but awesome when you crack it
  6. been a bit of a slow Febuary on the fishing front but still managed a few fish the bass were excetionally tough due to low water but out of 10 fish landed in a session 8 were over 40cm so the quality has been worth it hopefully with a bit more time in the next few weeks for fishing I'll have some better quality reports Dave
  7. the bane of my existence during my younger years bait fishing for bream on the breakwall
  8. they seem to have different habits, spent my younger years spear fishing but scratching some 20 year old memories the silver drummer seemed to spend more time grazing across open rocky bottom where the blacks were more hard up against the bommies so I'm guessing their day to day feeding habits may be different, their flesh is also much softer than blacks and bruises really badly
  9. with a popper a quick blooping retrieve and don't pause no matter how much you want to
  10. if you're bait fishing tie yourself up in the timber and fish vertical near the bottom worms are a good all round bait don't fish to deep if your lure casting focus on the points and the timber impoundments can be very hit and miss I grew up fishing copeton and pindari and still struggle half the time when I'm out there
  11. That's what I use.... I'd buy another in an instant
  12. Been a bit rough but hopefully it'll settle down before long..... I'm go and fish grassy with you anytime conditions permitting
  13. don't skimp on a baitcaster the cheap ones just aren't up to the task
  14. you can also try grassy head the macs often come in close......... kingy's are usually more smoky cape area..... be cautious these platforms can be treacherous.... I know of quite a few deaths over the years Dave
  15. when they come in the estuary here they seem to have blinkers on and they wont eat anything over 40mm and it has to be expensive the more expensive it is the more they try and eat it can get frustrating when you're bream spinning
  16. dishwashing detergent or solvol soap..... or just leave it and say it's the smell of victory
  17. I use a large piece of worm balled up on the hook with a big tag of worm hanging off the end seems to work well for big whiting
  18. zerek tango shad.... the tight shimmy action drives the kingys mad on a rapid twitching retrieve.... only downside you have to fish light
  19. some form of whaler probably a dusky or bronze impossible to tell without seeing the whole shark
  20. Mate if it wasn't for that sickening thing called work I'd be there
  21. they're hands down the best cattie lure I've used I haven't tried a crab style plastic... the cranka crabs I use are the standard bream size ones can't remember the size off the top of my head.............. I'll talk to my mate tomorrow and see whats happening on the weekend
  22. great bream lure when used correctly
  23. if the fish are biting I'm there..... I'd fish under an erupting volcano I like to cast around drains flowing out into the river especially floating the light weight cranka crab
