  1. Recently moved to Jervis Bay from Canberra. Promised the better half I'd only fish 5 days a week. Headed out this morning before work with a 1.5 hr window of opportunity. My standard approach is 12 foot heritage, tss4, 20lb line and 40grm knight retrieved flat biscuit. Bit challenging getting much time in the strike zone with swell and wind but managed a couple of bonnies and a small kingy around 60cm I guessed. Figured by the time I stuffed around measuring it thrashing around on the rocks only to find it to be under a quick release would be a better option. Another small king saved his fight for the last 5 metres and took my lure, attached it to a rock and swam happily away, no doubt to grow enormous and become a master of his domain. I've managed a few bonnies most mornings to around 55cm, Mack tuna to 65cm a few Tailor and Kingies including one keeper at 77cm. The state of the rocks some mornings is disgraceful and I wonder how people can visit such a stunning place and leave all their rubbish behind. I bring a bucket now and take as much as I can be bothered picking up. As I develop RSI from constantly spinning I'm thinking I might try some live bait to tempt my dream fish, the 1 metre Kingy off the rocks. P.s. Any boaties in the area looking for enthusiastic crew feel free to hit me up!!
  2. Could be worth trying hooking the nipper / yabby through the last segment of the tail only with a no.8 long shank chemically sharpened 8lb fluro trace gentle cast 1mtr of slack dont strike just tighten up if u suspect an inquiry. It does look a bit unlikely but give it a go definitely tricks the bigger fish
  3. After a couple of hours swimming I snuck a line out right where we had been and stuck it in the sand. Pottered off to check shrimp traps when DD calls out " Dad I'm on! " After a couple of minutes on 8lb line amid much screaming this beautiful fella comes in. Lightly pinned by the No.8 long shank it was a quick photo and straight back in top condition.
  4. Squidgy Bloodworm wriggler 80mm & 100mm fish with confidence & u will get bit!
  5. Ive got a side on photo but cant upload as its too big. Thinking maybe Draughtboard Shark?
  6. Blackmans Bay, Tassie. No.8 longshank with chicken for bait. Impersonating massive flathead.
  7. Shovelnose definitely great eating, my favourite of all sharks. Can be a bit wasteful filleting them much smaller than 1.2mtr with only about 20 percent flesh to frame/cartilage/skin. Lots of Flake in shops is Shovelnose as they are regular bycatch for prawn trawlers up to 3 metres long.
  8. Cracker write up drc!! Always good to blood new gear with a decent fish.
  9. Great report and solid commitment to fish 10 hour session!!!! Gotta love fresh gardies, how do u cook?
  10. If you have wheels Id suggest urriarra crossing on the Murrumbidgee up or downstream 10 minutes worms or shrimp 3 way swivel hook trace 50cm pea sinker dropper 20cm no.8 longshank just about guaranteed carp. Redfin easy in most lakes Lake Bg, Ginninderra and Tuggeranong using no.3 red celta type lures cast let sink wind just fast enough to spin blade move along the bank til school located. Either way a great way to spend an afternoon imo, tight lines let us know how u go
  11. Essentially the reel is a line holding device and will definitely still do the job. When matching a reel and rod I balance the rod with reel attached with my forefinger positioned close to the end of the rod grip closest to the tip. The reel is too heavy for the rod if you have to come more than 25mm from the end of the grip. Shakespeare 4000 size is pretty much the same as the major manufacturers. Hopefully that helps.
  12. 4lb line & f5 rapala. Fit, wild fish that played up big time jumped out 4 times up to a metre clear of the water!
  13. 80 mm Sqidgy Bloodworm Wriggler
  14. Mount Camel Beach for free camping and fishing. If you get the chance check out Bremer Bay, stay as long as you can. Beach, rock and jetty fishing brilliant in a small town well off the beaten track. I found the fishing tougher once I got further west from Bremer Bay until Shark Bay where you can catch fish with bare hooks.
  15. Classic Aussie fish of a thousand names, aka the Blackall. Go hard in shallow water and despite some opinion to the contrary actually really good to eat imo.
  16. Great to test out the new outfit!!! I am looking at either the 325h or 325m but haven't found a shop that stocks them. Same deal with the salina 3 i want to combine with it. I would really like to feel the combo together before purchase but any input appreciated. On a side note it is an offense to set lobster gear where it may interfere with recreational line fishing. Sometimes I think people set them in close to collect lures. Bring on the warm current!!!
  17. Great video, non stop action. Fishing shows take note!!!
  18. Land-based or boat. Inshore/offshore. Estuary/beach,rock. Bait or lures. You will definitely be able to scrape up a feed but it will be challenging as it always is in this part of the world in August, arguably the toughest month of the year in these parts. Narrow it down a bit and I'll throw a few ideas out there. I fished Sat / Sun total of 3 hours for 2 trev and 1 bream, just enough to feed the family. Beautiful areas to fish and always lots to see. Spotted 2 Dwarf Minke Whales feeding last trip.
  19. Nothing wrong with Pike just a bit unpleasant to handle owing to the slime and smell.
  20. Great report. Big rain forecast for this fri / sat will see fish moving en mass hopefully!
