  1. HI There, with jigs the river to sea knife jigs are pretty good and well priced. As stated above when the jackets are on don't drop expensive jigs as you will lose the them. In sydney you can get away with using a 230g if there is not much current, but when the wind is up and current is flowing even 400g jigs you will have problems reaching the bottom. In saying this 230g, 300g and 400g would be the go. Hope that helps, it also works up cheap if you buy the assist cord and jig hooks and make your own assist hook over buying the pre made stuff. I normally the YGK mini sea rope 200lb, Owner 7/0 assist hook and a bit of heat shrink to finish it off. If you need more info feel free to shoot me a PM. Cheer, Sz1
  2. Looks to be Amberjack, same family as the kings. Not sure about the taste as i have never tried it before but have heard from people saying their fairly nice eating fish. cheers, Sz1
  3. That is a brute hoodie, from the sounds of things there is quite a few hoodies swimming around at the moment, this is season looks to be shaping up nicely!!!! Well done on the beast, that is an awsome fish. Cheers, Sz1
  4. Good stuff Ray, you guys seems to have the places up ur way pretty well sorted!!! That Flatty looks like some thing of of Alien Vs Predetor hahahaha top effort and well done on the fishies!!!!!! Cheers, Sz1
  5. Top fish, to get it on such light gear and shallow water gota be happy with that!!!
  6. Now that is fish of a life time!!! One can only dream of landing a monster like that! Congrats to ur mate would have needed a beer after that effort
  7. This is a tough question and has always come up in the past, I own plenty of Daiwa and Shimano gear, the best way to go about it is to have a play at the reel you intend buy and pick the one you like, always buy the best you can so that later on your not upgrading all the time. For the quality products I have to say you won't be disappointed from either camp. Cheers, Sz1
  8. Thanks all for the replies, I am still sore two days after but as Nathan pointed it out it was well worth it. I never expect to crack the 1m that day and didn’t really expect much but as fishing is you never know, the fishing god must have been in a good mood, I just need to have a jig as my mate is WA is going next week to jig for sambos I didn’t want him to start send photos to me making me jealous. We were fishing out off shore in Sydney, as always the bigger fish always finds the lightest outfit to target, the little 4500 was buzzing and surprisingly held its own under locked drags. Was very happy with the fact that I did lose a big fish prior to this and to have a second chance at it was a great blessing, and to have landed the fish on 30lb in nasty reef was a great feeling. Can’t wait to go out and do it again, now just counting down the days till I make my way over to Perth to jig for the sambos January 8th can’t come sooner!!!! Cheers, Sz1
  9. Hi Ray, good stuff, i bet those sols and tierrers would have been howling. Hopefully it stays like this for the rest of the season. at the moment there seems to be kings everywhere. Love the photos and once again great report and love the fish!!!! Cheers, Sz1
  10. Hi mate, top fish there! That sambo there is a horse!!! Is this out at Perth? If so were you out of hillires of freemqntle? Bet u had to dig deep to hold that fish up for the photo. I will be heading to Perth to jig sambos first week of Jan can't wait counting down the days to go. Cheers, sz1
  11. HI Raiders, What day of fishing, went out Saturday to jig forkings, There was kings everywhere for the marjority of the day we were landing rat kings and average 70cm plus models with plenty of throw back to boot. I can say it was a day i will never forget, all up we landed over 40+ fish for the day, the conditions was great not much swell or wind which made life easy. We were dropping a majority of 200g - 300g, by lunch time i was sore and tired so i gave the heavy outfit consisting of a t-curve 200 and a Saltiga 6500 the retirement and opted for a lighter option of 30lb outfit with a 4500j fream to have some fun as the fish we we're getting were all around thr 65-75mark, as soon I changed to the lighter gear, i hooked up solid to a 83cm fish which smashed my previous PB of 73cm, stoked as hell already!!! But this record didn't last, on the next drop two turns of the handle i am on solid again, this time it was right on the bottom over some nasty ground and line was peeling off fast, i had the drag crank right up and with 9kg of drag this thing was not stopping, I was in a position where i was going to be reefed, I made the decision to go for gold and hope for the best but with 30lb i wasn't very confident, the next few seconds went like this: line is still peeling off at a rate of knotes so i palmed the spool and ping the hook pull , this was a much better fish, At this stage everyone was jeered up so more jigs gets dropped, feeling a little disappointed as i know i have lost my chance with a good fish. I ropped my jig again, the jig hits the bottom i get it up 10 or so meter and get hit again, this thing was a machine! line immediatley was peeling off the little 4500 heading in one direction towards the reef, this time i wasn't going to lose him pump and wind pump and wind i gave it all i had, the rod butt was digging in to my stomach but this was the least of my worries as i still had plenty of to work to do, the next feel minute was heart in mouth stuff, i finally turned him and had him comming up, i gained some and he took some but i had him away already and had a sniff at the prize. The fish faught all the way up after i had him half way up the thoughts of is my knots going to hold, is the leader damaged or will a bloody jacket bite me off ran through my head. But all this faded when we had colour and with a good net shot I had my first Hoodie king on the deck. I checked my leader and there was damage shown but eveything held together and the fish god smiled upon me. Need less to say we stayed around and jigged more but the action dead of again and another mate scored a 83cm model and plenty more of of 70cm plus and undersized fish. All day the action was pretty consistent with fish coming over the side on every drift. towards the end the wind picked up and made our life very hard as we counldn't get our jigs down to he bottom so a call for the day was made, all up I am sore all over but that is all part of the fun. The stats: Size 105cm Weight 9.80kg Hope you enjoyed the read. Cheers, Sz1
  12. Great catch, it is definately shaping up to be a good summer!!!! I agree must find travelly ally #2 lol
  13. Great haul of prawns there, love the second photo of the close up, gee those little tasty critters looks evil hahahaha. Cheers, Sz1
  14. Hi Slayer we were land based fishing over some rocky landscape in the Hacking. In summer we go once a week during the week and most time we are able secure enough bait for the weekend. Cheers Sz1
  15. Thanks guys for the kind words, we turned the larger ones into salt and pepper squid tonight and kept the rest for bait. It was good for my g/f brother who is obessed with squidding, he just brought a new combo consisting of a stradic and a berkley rod, he was eager to blood the new combo. Yeah that new Nokia is jig pretty good, must say it has a very nice sink rate lol, g/f brother is not into technology and love that phone lol. Hey L.Jacket, we always look for the following friends when we get one on but this time we didn't have any that followed. We also saw a even bigger green eye at our feet muching on a tailor it just caught, i threw my jig at it despite it had already got a fairly large tailor in its grip it still had a couple of goes at my jig but failed to hook to up . Cheers, Sz1
  16. Cngrats on the king and what an exciting adventure you had today. Got love the kings from reading the weekend reports there seems to be a few kings around that area. Keep at i, i'm sure there will be many more to come. Cheers Sz1
  17. Hi Raiders Just thought i would post a report on last nights efforts. We (girlfriend, her brother and I) spent a few hours on the hacking chasing inkers to stock up for the kings. Wasn't expecting much with the recent rain and a pretty strong NE breeze. Now we got some kingie candy snap frozen ready for the Harbour. Just have to find the time and some good weather to chase them. Needless to say some will be turned into salt and pepper squid tonight. Total count was 25 with plenty dropped. Cheers, SZ1
  18. I agree with Josh this is a hard call, i think for me it would be the first outfit, i prefer the T-Curve rod over he monster mesh, and having played with a saragosa i have to give it a thumbs ups. Cheers
  19. Hi Diver just spool the brai straight onto your spare spoll and top up with the required mono backing (mono bacbing is a must have or your braid will slip, just a few winds will do) once this is done, you can get a mate misses to hold onto the spool and wind the line onto the spool you intend to use, but make sure you keep some nice tension ont the braid with your finger as you wind it onto your spool. Cheers, SZ1
  20. I will pm you some charter details later tonight of the one i went on and other possible ones i am looking at for my 1 week stint. Cheers, SZ1

    Kingy Tackle

By the sound of thing you should be fine i agree there is big kings in syd harbour but most are in the 80cm and below, if i were you i might look into putting 200m of 3 or 40lb braid on your reel and that would do the trick.
  22. Hi Champ, by the sound of thing that was an awsome trip!!! Love the cobe that is one HUGE cobe, love the photos and the fish.
