  1. 250 is fine, i have jigged 300grams with this rod before.
  2. Hi mate, i brought my missus one pe2-3 for king fishing (live baiting), it feel good loads up good, for the money below 200 you can't go wrong, the only thing i don't is the failed attempt at bling on the rear grip. can also double as a good live bait rod.
  3. Hy Mate, where do you intend to fish and how deep, the river to sea jigs works great, but there are cheaper jigs out on the market. The cheap jigs do work good, i have been on jigging trip where guys next to me were using $30 jigs and not getting a strike while my $7 jig are braining them. Of Sydney i prefer using cheap jigs as you get bitten off by jackets alot so the cheaps one is lighter on the heap pocket, and most importantly they work. I prefer to work center weighted jigs in the 250g for Sydney.
  4. looks like a long tom to me. Good catch on out there
  5. Hi Raiders, I will be going away this weekend to spend a couple of days up at Coomba Park which i believe is near Foster and Tunncury), mainly to spend some time with the Misses, luckly my Misses love fishing so we will be spending plenty of time soaking baits and tossing lures. However I have no idea what sort of fish will be on offer, if any one can point out the type of species then i will know what type of gear i will take. If any one can suggest any good wharfs or break walls to fish some that would be great, and what type of fish would i best targeting. i don't mind driving to some spots not to far away, i don't mind fishing the beach, or the lake. Or if know if there is a jigging charter up that way (long shot but hought i would ask) I won't be towing the boat along of this trip so everything will landbased. thanks everyone in advanced for their advice. Cheers, Sz1
  6. If you plan on taking on marlin or any big fish that pulls line continously, then i ould strongly advise upgrading the drag to carbontex washers.
  7. If your worries about joining two spools of 300m braid together, just get some tuff line they come in 600m spools.
  8. Would love to know where you can get Mc Works rods in Oz aswell, these rods are harder to find then a three legged chicken.
  9. The 8000 would be my pick, the larger spool will allow you to fish heavier line if needed. If your only getting rats you can always back the drag off a bit. Although when targeting king with livies I never let them take the bait and run as the reel is always in fighting drag as they tend to hook them selfs not to mention you really don't want to give them a head start.
  10. I can highly recommend the Vally Hill Y.Mogi Special II, i have this rod in the spin version and it is a very nice rod when loaded up, can fish PE10 braid and jig up to 700gram jigs, most importantly for a rod of such strength it is not a broom stick you could jig as light as 250 even 200grams (lightest jigs i have used was 250). I have mine matched to a Stella 20000 and fish PE8, skull drag 25kg plus WA Samson fish very easily. Below is a vedio of Mogi him self battling a monster bluefin using this rod and a stella 20000.
  11. I use mono for all my beach fishing, braid is great but not good for the beach as the sand damages the braid very easily and weakens the line. if you fishing for Sambos, tailor or Jew just leave your reel with 2-3kg of drag with the rod in a rod holder, you will find the fish normally would smash the bait hook them selfs. Save you money and buy mono.
  12. You could also look at a smith amj54h an oldie but a goodie, either way you have a topn shelf rod match it to a rod of it's same class if money it not a worry.
  13. The wharf has some amazing ishing action as Predetor said bring some heavier gear as there are plenty of brute that lurk around that area.
  14. Mate fishing is like women and their shoes / bags, you can never have enough. The way you get around buying heaps of fishing gear is you let the Mrs buy as much shoes and bags as she wants then when it come to your turn for some fishing bling nothing more needs to be said

    Woy Woy

Hey Will, its Sha. Nice work man, we need to tee up some time soon and hit the water one day. Cheers, Sz1
  16. I was there early this year, you can fish the wharf next to the airport in the evening, the local go there and cast net livies make good firends with them and you will have bait for the whole night, also bring some squid jigs and we cleaned up on squid there as well. Do be surprised if you get smoked, as this happened on many occasions when we were there.
  17. Considering it will be a X-mas present you need something fast, then i would look into a JM, Ripple or Smith those there are a few places where you can get those rods. But then again it depends how much $$$ you friends wife is willing to shell out, low budet rod i would look at the Shimano Deep Jig 200 or 400 jig rods (don't be fooled as my opinion on these rods are they are a better live baiting and cubing rod then a proper jigging rod), the new Jig Wrex or New Daiwa Monster Mesh.
  18. Hi Steze, This is always a hard decision when buying a reel of this calibre, I have the SW8000PG which is the low gear model of the 8000SW and I absolutely love the thing, I have the reel loaded with PE4 for jigging, although I haven’t really given the reel a work out yet but my mate in Perth has smashed some decent 30kegger sambos on his last season with no problems. With all things you need to look after them. AS for the question regarding Saltiga and Stella this is really a personal choice, there are tonnes of people who would pick up a Saltiga over a Stella and vice versa, the best thing to do is have a play with both and get the one that you feel most comfortable with. You can’t go wrong with either!!! Cheers
  19. Some SW Twin power spools are interchangeable between the SW Stella spools, however to put a Stella spool on a Sienna your better of buying a more expensive reel as Stella spools can cost well over 100bucks for the smaller sizes and up wards of 250bucks for the bigger size. When buy a quality reel your paying for the quality of the materials through out the whole body.
  20. Hi There nice flatties, i used to fish the bridge all the time and always had good results. Just wondering if you were actually fishing of the bridge or were you fish the bak along the side? Cheers
  21. HI Daniel, Welcome to the site, I would say the setup you have is totally up to tackling kings LB. The Ugly sticks are one of the toughest rods I have ever come across. Another thing I would add to your arsenal would be some 60lb and 80lb leader depending how heavy the terrain your fishing. Look forward to seeing some nice LB captures from you shortly. Cheers, SZ1

    My New Weapon

HI Framedtrash, I am picking up a Hots Fake Lez 63h to pair with my STLSW8000PG running PE4 Boat Braid. The rod is rated to PE4-8 but that is an exaggerated rating it is more like P3-6(max) I opted for a longer rod so I work 200-250gram center weighted jigs as the longer rods tend to work the jig better because you get more of a flick on the up stroke and allows to really slow down your jigging action, which I will appreciate as here out of Sydney the bites are not always fast action and if you go hard from the start you will run out puff when the fish comes on the bite.

    My New Weapon

HI Framedtrash and Woodchop, If you guys are organising a weekend jig trip on a charter I will put my hands up to tag along if you have a coupel of spare spots. Getting a new rod which should arrive soon to put a bend into as well. Cheers, SZ1
  24. Hey Framedtrash, Sorry mate I total forgot to consider the flight to CArins, which with the 7ft Sol rod you may get some issues trying to get them to take it. To my understanding is that rod tubes needs to be under 2m, a few years ago I went to QLD and had a 7ft tube and the airline wasn’t keen on taking it for me. Since then I have reduced the length of tube to 6ft which never had any more problems. I suggest to check with the air lines before purchasing the rod, if it is an issue you can check out the new daiwa Wilderness 3 piece travel rod or if you can find it still Team Advantage 3 piece travel rod. Failing that the Terrier range of rods has a few that comes in a 2 pieces which you can consider, not as nice as Sol’s but still pretty good. Cheers,
  25. Hey Framedtrash, mate if you only goin to be tossing plastics, hardbodies and small poppers then i would recommened a reel in the 4000 size and a lighter 7 foot 10-20lb rod which will give you much more fun then a Live Fiber and Saltist 4500. For the type of fishing you plan and mentioned to do i would look at the following combo: Daiwa Sol 4000 Daiwa SOl II Rod TD-SOL 701 MFS - Spin - 7 Foot - 1 Piece - Medium Action - Line 8 to 14lb - Lure 1/4 to 1/2oz or TD-SOL 701 HFS - Spin - 7 Foot - 1 Piece - Heavy Action - Line 10 to 20lb - Lure 3/8 to 1oz the above combo will come in around $500 maybe less and still leave you with change for some 20lb braid, this outfit will knock over any barra, queenfish and reasonable travallies, not to mention that it will be at home here in Sydney catching Kingies on stick bait or snappers or even jewies. I would recommend the Daiwa Team Advantage 4000 and matching as i have one and it is sweet to use but Daiwa has discountinued that range. Cheers, Sz1
