  1. You sure it didn't say don't eat the fish?
  2. Anyone know if Sydney has any Amateur fishing comps throughout the year on common species like flathead and bream?
  3. Thanks Sam, I don't fish anything but plastics or lures. Guess I'm a bit lazy on getting bait. Do kings go for poddy mullet? There is plenty of them around where I fish.
  4. Cheers everyone, I want to setup a rod to chase bigger fish like these and maybe some rat kingies, that's next on my bucket list. I have a 4000 reel and a 3-5 kg 6ft rod what size braid should I get loaded on it? And any tips getting land based kingies in syd harbour?
  5. Cheers the little paddle tail with a 1/6 weighted size 1 hook jig head done the damage , pretty lucky!
  6. Hi Raiders, Only new to fishing and been going 6 months now and had some good success. Guess that's why I'm addicted now. Anyway ticking off species off my bucket list and till Friday night Mullaway was one of them. Just got a new reel midweek and wanted to test it out Sedona 3000 got the tackle shop to load some 6pound braid onto it as I want to target some bream. Matched it to my 1-3kg rod and headed off down to my usually spot around Glebe around 5pm and started flicking some plastics around, got onto to some small tailor around 30cm which was fun on the light gear the rod reel combo was working great and my cast distance had greatly increased. Sun went down and the led lenser head torch came out continue to walk the banks looking for fish see a nice flatty sitting on the sand waiting for its prey. Seems a bit unfair but love being able to watch a flatty take a plastic, bounce the paddle tail across the bottom towards the flatty get to about half a metre away and bang awesome to watch drag it in and it's a good size 50cm . That will do its getting close to 7pm better go home for a feed. Decide to have a couple of last flicks around some structure to see if I can get that bream I wanted. Second cast and on the drop something hits my plastics and the drag goes off its head, nice one might get onto that horse bream I wanted. Run stops and I'm onto the reel but to no avail just as quick as i can reel the drag is work against me tighten the drag up a bit remembering I'm on 6 pound braid with 8 pound leader and not want to bust off and continue to work the reel like a madman anyway long story short 15min later I see that silver shine my first Jew get the lip grips out and roll out the brag mat to get a few photos before return him back to live another day.
  7. Went this arvo in blackwattle bay, got three flatheads, two bream and 4 tailor. All on plastics in about 1hr and half land based. They're back on the bite!
  8. Caught this at blackwattle bay, what is it?
  9. Get the squidgy pro range they come with a lip gloss size stick of sfactor in every pack. But you can use them on different brands. Unsure of their affectiveness. But squeeze a bit on when I'm not getting any bites and don't know if it's persistants or not but will eventually get something.
  10. It is a good price, I would drop the lb down. Get some floru carbon leader and tie it directly to the braid. You will feel way more bites. You fishing lures or bait
  11. Slow roll retrieve with some pauses instead of a drop and jig up like you would for flathead. Great tasting just you tube how to fillet it and you will get to boneless fillets crumb and fry.
  12. Try Zman grubz 2.5 in motor oil. With a 1/6 jig head size 1 hook. Works for me
  13. Didn't end up getting to TCD, just a morning session at lake Wallace. Got this nice redfin
  14. Went for fish Sunday arvo to try out my new rod I bought in the morning. Daiwa Laguna 702lxs. Got something a bit lighter to target brim and feel more bites when flicking plastics. Rigged up with some Zman grubz. Light jig head 1/12 size 1 hook. Didn't get any Brim but nailed a couple of small flatheads and a tailor.
  15. Hi raiders, heading out west this weekend. Going to get a fish in at lake Wallace or Thomason creek dam. Hopefully catch my first trout and if not nail a few redfin. anyone been out that way lately? Tips? I think I will be fishing plastics Zman grubz in watermelon and some tassie devils. Never tried power bait but might throw out my second rod with a bait on it.
  16. Yeah like a eel but shiny silver was testing out my new LED Lenser head lamp, light didn't even seem to spook it ethier unlike all the poddy mullet around.
  17. What do you use to hook them? I saw one in half of metre of water while I was targeting brim the other night only around 6pm. Flicked my Zman grub in front of it a few times and it was hitting it but not getting hooked up. could of dropped the jig head hook size but didn't want to re-rig.
  18. Been catching salmon on lures or bait?
  19. Went for a flick again yesterday down the road in blackwattle bay. Fishing off the point land based, hooked myself a nice Aussie salmon put up a good fight jumping out of the water 3 times on the retrieve. Also got a couple of small trevallies. Fishing with 8 pound braid 8 pound leader 1/6 size weight, size 1 hook jighead squidgie wriggler
  20. Hi All, first post on Fish Raider. So we for a flick down the end of the Glebe point rd today. been down a couple of time in the last month and had some good success with a range of species. Both on soft plastics and bait. Caught Bream, Flathead, Talior, Whiting, leatherjacket. But today had a bit of a sleep in and didn't head down till around 11.00am usually go in arvo around 4.00pm to 6.00pm the flathead really seem to bite around then.So rigged up with a squidgy evil minnow soft plastic add a bit of S factor and had my first cast go for a slow retrieve double flick kind of technique. Second cast double click bang, landed something straight away it goes for a run, had the drag pretty light and its screaming its head off. Fishing fairly light 6ft 3-6kg rod with shimanio Sedona 4000fe reel 8 pound braid and 8 pound leader. Tighten the drag a touch and reel in like fury. It goes for 3-4 decent runs in the 5 mins I try to get it in. Eventually get it in and I think it's a Trevally. Blackwattle bay wow how many species can it throw out. Throw it on the brag matt I just bought that morning from Rays in camperdown take a few snaps then release him. After that pulled in a few Talior but nothing more headed off happy and will be back.
