  1. After 6 years of chasing the Mighty Mulloway, it unexpectedly happend. As usual the plan was to get some squid and head off to chase some kingies. Squid was no problem, after an hour or so, we had half a dozen in the live well...off to the markers. Conditions were great, very little wind, tide change at 9am. Got there around 8:30, and dropped a livie down & waited, and waited....livies getting destroyed by pickers...moved on. Next marker...only strip bait available at this stage, drop it down, a couple of drifts later considering moving on when I see a rat come up to inspect the marker, then turns around and dives when the boat gets close..."should be any moment now" I say to myself, when suddenly I come up tight!! At first no initial ran, as the drag is at max, I figure its the little rat kingy, when gradually the run starts to increase & line is peeling off at a surprising & worrying speed . Boat is starting to get pulled along, I step on the electric motor in a vain attempt to get line back. This is strange, normally the king will undoubtly head for the marker, this guy was heading into the middle of the bay. Weapon: Starlo stix , Tournament pro- 8kg rod, 20lb braid, 30lb trace, is bent over but doing a good job of controlling this thing. At this stage still calling it for a "stupid" king when the most beautiful fish reveals itself... Now Im nervous to say the least, start praying to God that nothing snaps, breaks , comes loose, gets tangled or any of the hundred things that could go wrong. Starting to get tired now( me and the fish) and is getting close to the boat, net aint going to do jack!! need to jaff...Tony,(thank you mate:Tumb up: ) cool & calm as always gets it into position under the gills & heaves it on the deck:goodone: At the moment ALL of Botany bay would have heard the the screaming, back slapping, hollering and excitment that can only be produced when you have caught the fish of a life time. In my mind the fight only lasted 5min, but Tony reckons closer to 12min..ill take his word for it, either way those minutes are now embedded in my soul. Take it to the bait shop for certified weigh in 20kg on the dot!!! 132cm long. Destroyes my previous PB. Even now 3 days after the event Im still shaking my head in wonder. The Best Australia day EVER:appl:
  2. Bravo Jim!! Good to see the hard yards paying off. awesome fish mate. cheers
  3. thanks for your suggestion guys. But i am sick & tired taking the thing on & off, so I have made a "prop lock"...like a club lock..It seems to do the job & i just take it off & am ready to go.
  4. Hi Guys Unfortunatly Im one of those poor sods that have to leave the boat out on the road, so it should come to no surprise that finally some P%#K has stolen my propeller off the 60 yammy. Just wandering if its happened to any fellow fishraiders? and what have you done about it since? Is there such a thing as a propeller lock/clamp? Any help would be appreciated. thanks
  5. Mate, you were'nt the only one suckerd by the BOM yesterady.... Took me 4 times longer to get to the spot, soaked to the core and the wind still coming strong hours later. Even at 5 am the BOM was still stating 5-10kn NE!!!!!!! Got onto some tailor & salmon though, as I was heading back to the ramp , there were large schools up against the forshore at Brighton. Getting scattered reports of some rat Kings starting to come through. Cheers
  6. great catch! Congrats on the PB,s, and so early in the season!!! fantastic
  7. Thanks guys!. It definetely was one of those sessions we all have encountered once in a while that makes this, sport, hobbie, obsession, so awesome. James, got them in Botany Bay..its been firing since the last rains.
  8. Congrats on the catch. really dont want to start something here, but, if you see the thread titled "Christening new combo" the larger fish went 95cm and btw 5 & 6kgs & the smaller fish was measured at 80cm, which was approx 3-3.5kgs. Again, not be littling the catch, EVERY jew is awesome on your line. Regards
  9. As I had just picked up my new reel,(I had been saving up for weeks and finally got the hot little Certate custom R in my hands) I was naturally itching to try it out. Luckly Chris (Aero) suggested an Sat arvo fish, even though the wind was up, it wasnt going to deter me whatsoever. 4:30 were in the water with Nick, Chris and myself hoping to see some salmon amongst the chop, and the ever optomistic Chris was declaring "we'll definitely see some fish" but an hour later only a couple of barely legal flatties on board, no show with the sambo's, yours truly not scoring anything, things werent looking too good:brickwall: ...will the reel see some fish on its maiden outing? Cruising over a known hole as the sun was creeping away I come up solid... weight !!,little run..headshakes...jewy:hellyeah: Couple of minutes later a nice schoolie of 80cm is skillfully taken by Chris & is on the boat:ohyeah: ...I doesnt get better than this.........or does it? Once I regained my composure, a couple of casts later, BANG!...weight, headshakes that felt like earthquakes, looong run, oh oh...Very solid fish:eek: Now the rods bent & the fish is staying low, I think I need to take my time with this one:D The boys have selfishnessly put down thier rods, Chris is guiding the leccy, keeping me in position, while Nick is recording it all on with the phone. A few minutes later the fish is on the surface, a couple of dives, Chris is with the net, doesnt quite fit, breaks net...Chris gets it on board:goodone: Nice jewy of about 5kg....95cm...PB on SP! Hi Fives all round!! Exhilarated, adrenaline pumping, exhausted, over the moon, I sit down have a smoko.....no words can express the situation. The rod handle it all like a dream, what a way to christen the outfit.... Like to thank Chris & Nick...they were genuinely excited for me and did all they could to help land these bueaties.
  10. Congtat Red! Good to hear about your 20pounder It will only get better when thing start to warm up again. Since our last session I have only been able to pull one soapie, tried again the last couple of days, but no luck. Chris, the reason you havent caught any, is because you havent been on my boat recently

  12. Thanks Fellas, Doesnt come around too often ...but when it does!!!!!!! Im sure people across the Bay would have heard me Yahooing!!!
  13. Hi All... After seeing all the latest reports of jews coming in (thanks Swordfisherman! ). I had to go for a land base spin in the Georges so I could get it out of my system.... Straight after work , still in my work clothes, cause I only had about an hour to fish I was off. 15min into casting 4" minnows on 14lb trace 6lb fireline I was on!! 5 min after taking 3/4 of my spool, worried a boat will runing over the line, trying to net & fight at the same time, feeling the line rub against him...finally 88cm 4-5 kg my PB on SP
  14. Hi All, Will be tackling thje Hawkesbury next Friday, Sat & early Sunday, with my local fishing club.... Since I havent fished there before. I would like some info from the Jew guns of the site Expecting that this rain will continue during the week & obviously affect the system, where would you fish? There are also some big tides around late morning, would you fish the same area? Will be taking squid with us, & hoping to gather bait, what other bait should I try to catch & where? Will be fish of boat, so can go anywhere. Thanking all i advance.. If you want to PM with particular info..pls feel free.. Hoping to catch that Jew of a life time..
