  1. When im happy with just 1 legal blackfish but i always see u catching 10+ ???. too good
  2. a 1m plus flathead would release more then 10 times the eggs as thec2 smaller females. and the young would also have better inherited genes which would allow for there survival. and when you have a population size that large, inbreeding rarely happens so gene pool doesnt really get weaker.
  3. dirvin21, yeah im using a blackfish rig to catch them haha
  4. Oldfella, thanks for the cooking tips :D, ill try that next time (already cooked mine haha)
  5. Thanks Yowie for the information, but if you have a piece of bait that small, wouldn't they not bite?
  6. Yesterday headed out to Mrs Macquarie Chair fishing from 6:15pm- 8pm (running in tide). Thought i would like some revenge (Got long shank hooks) on the leatherjackets as they torn through my line last time, resulting in losing 10 hooks. Used a running float and casted about 6m's from break wall. First 5mins and a down. Pulled in a wrasse with amazing colours, emerald green and neon red streaks running through it. Chucked it back and continued fishing with another wrasse pulled in. 10mins with no bites, decided to berley up with a can of cat food in a berley bucket and wow, results were there. Just 5mins later, a school of yellow tails turned up, and float goes down every 5 seconds from casting. Managed to pull 2 big ones in at around 25cm long. I was rebaiting my rod when suddenly i saw a leatherjacket about 20cm long grabbing a piece of berley just 2m from breakwall. Around 5mins later, the school was there. About 20+ leatherjackets (counted only those that could be seen from wall) all between 20-30cm+ turned up, all trying to eat the cat food from the berley bucket. Quickly switched rods and fished with no sinkers. BUT.... no matter how many times they swallowed my bait, they got away free, without any hooks up. 10baits later and saw a 35cm eating my prawn. Hooked!!!. But just 3seconds into the fight it still managed to bite my line off. Dam!!!. 3 more baits later and i hooked another, wasn't a terribly big leatherjacket (26cm) but managed a nice fight before getting pulled up and into the keeper net. Spotted another big leather jacket close by and casted to it. Hooked up again!!!. and came up at 31cm. Managed to pull another large one up at 32cm and multiple small ones (chucked back) before they started leaving. It was pretty dark by now and the bites had ended. The next hour or so only produced another undersized snapper so decided to leave. In all of it, had a awesome day, if i had a long net i could of just scooped up heaps of leatherjackets. Also the 1st leatherjacket that went into the net somehow escaped so only 2 keepers for the day. Sorry for unclear picture,
  7. Haha thanks, im surprised there weren't many people fishing
  8. headed out with my friend's family to Mrs Macquarie Chair after school at 5pm, (last time i will fish until holidays cause of exams) on the rising tide. The water was pretty clear and you could see there was lots of rocky structure and kelp beds. Also a lot of tourists there but it was quite a big area and finding a place to fish was pretty easy. I started setting up the berley bucket but accidentally dropped it into the water opened and lost all the berley in 5mins (RIP). Rods got set up next using prawns as bait. I personally had 2 rods out, 1 with a running sinker rig and 1 with the same rig i use for blackfish (float) but soon learnt it was better to just use 1 rod. I was constantly glancing at the float and the rod tip of the other rod, however each time i looked at the other rod my float goes under, and I struck too late. 1 hr in and only 2 undersized snappers. Decided to stick with the blackfish setup only after missing so many downs. Berleyed with left over bread and just stuck to this made the leatherjackets turn up (You could see the schools right next to the breakwall). First 3 downs, missed all and all came back with no hook -.-. Then my reel started screaming but line got cut off 8 seconds in. Happened again.. Decided to switch to a smaller hook and i was finally on. Pulled in a 30cm leatherjacket then another 4 more 1minute after the previous ones. The bites were furious and float went down 5 seconds after casting it. But it ended fast, as it was nearing the top of the tide :/ . Decided to pack up at 7:30, and my friend's last cast ended with the biggest leatherjacket of the day, must have been 40cm and its fans must have been just as long. Most of the fish were returned and I ended the day with around 8 caught, and 10+ hooks bitten off. The view was amazing however, with the harbour bridge right in front. Would definitely go there again. Sorry no photos of fish as i forgot to take before giving my fish to my friends family. Picture is of where we were fishing, (left side of Macquarie chair, staring right at the harbour bridge) Also can anyone tell me how do you catch leatherjackets without them slicing through your line half the time
  9. Hi has anyone ever fished at Mrs Macquariue Chair in Sydney harbour? planning to go there tommorow, and just wanting to know what you can catch there, bait and what side to fish. Thank you
  10. Can anyone tell me how to bait up on a hook the small squid u get from frozen blocks? Thank you
  11. In the end didn't end up fishing but snorkeling and saw a male grouper, stingrays, lots of wrasse and bream haha
  12. Great fish, doing better then me at blackfish fishing haha. Where do u fish btw?
  13. Pretty sure u can easily have 20 plus 15cm yakkas for a few weeks if it has enough movement and DEFINETLY a filter. Haven't had experience with this, but my other hobby is aquarium fish, so kinda have a idea on how to make them survive haha.
  14. Thanks guys, but was wondering if u can bring a 10ft rod (2 pieces so 5foot long), onto a bus? Thanks
  15. looks like some huge fish (the one's on the top right).
  16. Hi guys, i was wondering if there are any spots near Coogee beach for fishing (mainly rock fishing). Thank you
  17. I think Isofishing have good quality nets that extend to 5m. However, they are really expensive
  18. It might be a bully mullet, and those are probably coming into estuaries to spawn right now. Saw a guy catch 40 of them at that size, in just a couple of hours around this time of year a few years ago.
  19. There was heaps of blackfish in the estuary in yesterday's huge high tides. Maybe thats where the fish were haha
  20. Loved the story, hope everyone else was smiling like me when reading it haha
  21. Haven't seen anyone catch a squid in Gymea baths yet, which side of the baths?
  22. I saw someone drop a trap of a ferry wharf on at night using chicken as bait and Pulled up a huge mudcrab 30mins later
