  1. Hey guys,

    Great work with the drummer!

At times i think you can minimise risks and confidently fish alone. I wear a PFD and cleats, warm clothing and choose my spots and conditions carefully. I also strap my rod and gear to my back so i can climb properly and of course let someone know where im at.

I say fish alone if need be, but use your head. :1Lighten:

    Cheers,

    Bobfish

  2. Mate,

I was loading my BRAND NEW 2 piece schnider glas 12 foot 6 wrap ($200) into the car when the hatch closed unexpectedly, it is now a 3 piece. And i look at it with disgust every time i go to the garage. :074:

  3. did anyone eat that foam mouthed freak in the photo?

    fish on :1fishing1:

I had a pair of hot swedish backpackers staying with me in summer whome i met in thailand 6 months before, i was like a kid in a candy shop. :yahoo: Anyhow, i got to talking about fishing and apparently these horrible looking monsters of the deep are quite a prised catch. I guess you make do with what you've got to work with.

  4. Hi bobfish,

Yeah, very similar. You can differentiate them by a couple of points. Most noticably, Jewfish have a convex,(paddle shaped), tail, and Teraglin have a concave shaped one. Also, a Teraglins mouth is yellow inside. Happily, though, they taste very similar. Yum!

I got this guy from my usual haunt at Boulton's reef.

    Cheers,

    Rick

I guess the next thing is which of these you'll eat first

Ive heard that teralgin don't like to leave they're mates behind so if you weight a live one and drop him back down you can clean up the whole school. Food for thought.

    Cheers, Bobfish

  5. Jewgaffer,

My experience with circle hooks is limited bar one late night jew session from a heavily guttered beach. I was advised by a old fisho, whome id met the night before, to use a circle hook in place of a usual 8/0. This hook was to be tied in the snell position of my two hook rig. I have learnt one thing since i switched to salt water a year ago, that is listen to the gnarled, old salts.

Anyhow, i hook up to a nice jew. After a quick tussle i am up to my knees in water and upon sliding the fish up beside me, I realise the only reason i have landed this jew is because the circle hook had foul hooked on the outside of the fishes mouth, my 10/0 occy is swinging in the breeze!

Not to say i think circle hooks are the bees knees, but on a snell arrangement they secured a fish i may have otherwise lost.

Ps. Thanks for the very informative and well written posts concerning pressure systems and they're affect on fishes. I now have a barommeter and am checking it way too often

    Cheers mate,

    Bobfish

  6. Haha you're in the same boat as most... You could always check it out in the morning from the lookout and if it's too rough fish the harbour somewhere where it's more protected.

The swell was huge this morning around the heads!

I had a look this arvo mate, its massive and definatly a no go zone :1yikes:

  7. hi guys just wondering if our 7' drop shots spooled with 6lb fireline will be ok in mackay

i hope so as we landed some nice jewies and flathead in the hawkesbury with them

    regards geoff and anne :beersmile::1fishing1::beersmile:

For smaller species the 6lb fireline is plenty, have fun up there, the weather would be perfect right now

  8. Hi,

I want to try fishing with lures, any recommendations as to which combo I should buy?

I target Kingfish, tailor, bream, flathead, travs.

Fish from my boat and off the land.

    Any advice will be appreciated

    cheers

Mate there's a great kingie spinning rod in the for sale section of this forum at the moment. I spin with a G.loomis and they are bloody unreal. For the bream, flatties and trevs id recommend something a bit lighter....1-3kg for the bream and trevs and 2-4kg for the flatties.

If you have to comprimise i recommend a graphite 2-4kg fast taper around 6'6''long. Prices range from around $100 to infinity and beyond

    Best of luck.

  9. G'day mate,

I have all my tackle in flat clear trays and just pick the ones I want for the trip I'm doing, that way I can pick and choose depending on what I'm doing and I don't have to cart a massive box around with me all the time.

I have 8 I work with most of the time depending on what I'm doing, where I'm going, and what I'm targetting.

    One with Jig Heads

    One with BIG plastics

One with big hard body's for trolling outside.

One with small hard bodys for bream/flatties

    One with sinkers

    One with hooks and swivels

One with Bass/freshwater lures both surface and diving

One with Metals for casting, trolling.

I then have my favourite trolling skirts and live bait rigs on leader wheels so I can grab what I need depending on where I'm fishing.

I have a bag which fits the boxes in the main part of the bag. In the front pocket goes my packets of plastics I want for the day, braid sissors, plyers etc etc. My leader(s) sit in one side pocket, my sunscreen, sunnies and odd bits in the other pocket.

It's all sorted so I can pick and choose tackle to suit my needs depending on where I'm going and what I'm targeting.

And... it's all kept in my tackle cupboard safely and securly locked away with my lighter rods and reels. All my heavier gear which doesn't fit in the cupboard is stored next to it. :biggrin2:

    Organisation is the key :biggrin2:

    Cheers
