  1. Hey Fishraiders!

Im taking my boat out for the second time ever this saturday morning if the weather conditions are good. I have little to zero boat experience and was wondering if minamurra river would be an alright spot to learn in as it seems to be safe with locals kayaking and paddle boarding there. I've been kayaking there twice but never been in a boat. Im taking a friend who has owned a small tinny before like the boat we will be taking on the weekend, hopefully he can do what he says he knows haha. So all in all hopefully its a good day and a good spot for a beginner. Also anyone know some hot spots there i could catch a few lizards or bream ;)

    Cheers Kaneo

  2. Hey guys !

I went out for a drive today through the royal national park to bundeena. And to get to bundeena we have to go past audley flats, I had a look on maps & didn't know that it's apart of the hacking river so if I kayaked from there & went up towards the hacking river it would 'take quiet a while but just want to know if anyone has fished just a bit further up from audley flats & if it's worth going there . Cheers kaneo!

Woke a bit late and had the yak in about 8:30am. I was hoping for a feed to take home for a BBQ coming up. Picked up a couple of poddies near the ramp (for later on), headed out for troll in the shallows and picked up a nice flatty on a resurrected HB that I coated with my wife's pink nail polish!

    Flatty on hb 55cm.jpg

I was waiting for the tide to start running a bit harder before dropping the liveys down and the boats & jet skis were getting fairly thick all around the river. After a few more runs, the flats weren't producing so I headed over to my deep water spot, lined up my landmarks and dropped the first livey down. It lasted all of two seconds and I brought up a very feisty flatty of 65cm.

One more livey and one more drop, pretty much as soon as I felt the sinker dropper on the bottom; sure enough another good flatty of 58cm. With no more livies, I did another drift with my Samaki Thumper Tail vibe and didn't have to wait long before another flatty of 57cm. These three fish came from the same hole, in the space of 10 minutes and in the full view of marauding jet skis and wake boarders! With a feed on ice I headed into shore. Pretty happy with the fast a furious action.

Best thing I find to do is face the oncoming wave and drop the throttle then just float over the top.

I'll give that a go mate I was full throttling with the little 8hp motor hahaha

First outing for a while so it was good to get out & wet a line.

Fished the incoming tide on the drift using SP's.

Caught about 15 fish, all flathead & kept these for dinner.

    Largest went 52cm.

Wind picked up around 11am so happy with the mornings catch I headed in.

What type of boat mate can a tinnie go fish there ?

Mate I would agree with Paddy T the Nepean for bass fishing is the go  but you must go right up the Gorge to get away from the waterskiers. Also there are carp to be taken the river gets lower the further you go up but the scenery is so nice but sometimes the fishing can be hard .

    Thank :)

i might give that area a try and have a flick for some freshwater fish, it might be a bit harder for me since I haven't  fresh water fished before

Definately a 1 to 2 person craft , stay away from the main traffic areas and it wll enhance your experience Lane cove river is quiet as are a lot of the upper reaches of middle harbour. Iron cove is good when not full of rowers. As for the wash from others as the other guys have indicated driving into it at an angle better to avoid the larger traffic though

Yeah I will be only taking two of us out the next trip and definitely putting it in closer to where I want to fish , with the 8hp motor it takes to long to travel if I put it in at milperra flower power

Boat of that size is a 1-2 person boat, not 3- no matter what the compliance plate says- that said you can use it to your advantage to get up into all sorts of interesting places that bigger boats cant get too-have a look around the back of Berowra Creek, upstream middle harbour (up from Roseville)Cowan Ck- have a look on some maps or google earth and explore-stay away from more open waters .

Yeah next time I will be definitely only going out with two of us and I will be putting it in a area that is closer to the fishing spot I want to fish in cause with the 8hp motor it takes to long to travel in the Georges up towards tom uglys bridge

    Kaneo,

If you put what suburb instead of Sydney it would help other Fishraiders so if they were on the water maybe they could help.

If you want to keep your area secret it is good to mention what area you are fishing.

A lot of Fishraiders fish together and offer help. This is the best forum for fishing and no questions is silly we all started off as newbies.

As you don't have a radio on board it makes hard to know if you  are out fishing and what area you are in. This is my boat and it is rated for six people however I only take 3 mostly two.

Hey mate , I should update that. Yesterday was the first time out in the boat & I didn't get to fish properly because I put my boat in milperra at the flower power and because I have an 8hp with 3 people it didn't travel fast enough so we only went to the speed camera that's further up about the rivers towards the ocean but I didn't even close !!! Next time I'm going to put the boat in at a closer ramp , thinking of sandy point.

    cheers!

Every trip gets easier Kaneo, you would be surprised just what your boat can handle in the hands of an experienced skipper. Good times ahead my friend, boating is IMO one of the most rewarding activities you can do. Theres a wealth of knowledge on this forum as Fab has demonstrated, ask and your sure to get an informative answer.

Cheers mate @Raymondo that's what I'm hoping for a good surprise to what it can handle and it won't be nervous or worried ?

It will make a huge difference to your confidence.Good Luck!Remember not to overload your boat also as tempting as it may be for obvious safety reasons.

Yeah I had 3 of us I think 2 people is good just to learn and get used to it!

Ideally yes,try to keep the bow into them at 45deg.Small boats can capsize or sink when hit from the sides or the stern.

I have a 4.2m tinny with a low transom and need to be careful getting hit from behind even by big wake from sports cruisers etc.

Yeah I'll give that a go next time & hit them on the angle think cause my first time was bit nervous and worried

  13. Hey guys !

Today was the first day I went out & the first time I had driven a tinnie. I have a 310 dart with an 8hp mercury outboard 2 stroke.

What way do I travel the boat when waves come off the passing boats towards my tinnie , I'm worried I'm going to flip or sink the tinnie ?

Alll in all it was a good first day, next time maybe only 2 of us on the boat cause the motor quiet small.

    Cheers ??

As Fab's photo above that's how my Tinnie was fitted out with the Alloy supports Tek screwed into the ribs. The floor was standard marine ply with bondcrete sealed edges and marine carpet.

Was removable for cleaning and I had LED Strip lighting under the seats shining down to give just enough light to see round your feet.

no rub through issues and supported my 115kg frame with bowing.

If you have the deep Hull I would as add door to store items out of the way.

Seal the ply and add carpet and away you go.

Thanks mate ! I like the look of that. My tinnie is the same bottom as yours, is the bondcrete for the edges to stop water getting in between the layers of ply ?

Where do you get the allow to fit the same or have to make yourself

    cheers kaneo

  15.  @Fab1 not sure how to reply to your message.

so I can just cut out pieces to fit straight into bottom that is removable and not worry about the aluminium being to weak & rubbing through ?  So it will just fit underneath the bottom of the carpet on either side ?

  16. Hey guys! New to fishraider , this is my first post.

I have just purchased my first boat , 310 dart aluminium tinnie ;)

I'm keen to build a flat floor for the middle part but I have no clue or idea on how to do it. I was only going to cut out the marine ply and just leave it removable in the bottom but I'm afraid it'll rub and go through the aluminium or bend the two support strips that run across one side to another.

    cheers kaneo!!
