  1. Hi guys.

Im going to start using lures for fishing instead of bait fishing & see how I go as I don’t get much luck with bait & wanted to try something new. I just need some tips on what braid and mono to run as well as what reel and rod to buy.

I’ll mainly be only chasing flathead & bream as well as bass. I want one rod setup only for lures that can catch all 3.

Im thinking , 2-4kg spin rod with a 2500-3000 reel. With 6lb braid & 10lb mono. (Mainly soft plastics, and the light plastic bass ones)

And for heavy lures like metal ones just use my current rod I use for bait fishing with 15lb braid? Unsure of this setup

  2. I'll have to double check the weather and tides on the weekend. Supposed to be nice weather light winds in the morning. Also I have been notified about an air show down there hopefully it isn't to packed at windang lake.

Yeah,it gets dangerous real quick in the wind as you've found out due to the very shallowness of the lake. You'll get through the shallow section mentioned above easy in your boat navigating with caution.

Not to sure if it's me,but I wouldn't have 3 in that boat with an 8hp for the same reason above. It's hard to escape the weather when it turns nasty.Maybe you can upgrade it a little when the funds permit to a 15hp for that added bit of power?

    Take care out there.

Yeah two people from now on otherwise it's to hard and can get dangerous! Also I don't have a license and the legal size engine for my tinnie is 8hp max!!! Once I get confident with reversing and putting the boat in and retrieving I'll upgrade but I get to worried as it is with a small boat haha.

It gets down to about 1/2 metre. This is one of those times when careful navigation will get you through. You will see other boats similar to yours go through from the channel into the main lake.

If you launch from the berkley ramp you won't need to worry about the shallow part.Just a thought.

    cheers.

Last time I launched at burkeley fished the main island hid behind the island from wind, it picked up real hard and there Wass that much wind making small waves in the lake and scared the shit out of me with 3 of us in a 3.2m tinnie and a 8hp sccary 10 minutes getting back !!!

  5. HEy guys I'm from Sydney, Macarthur region. I sometimes don't like driving an hour to go fishing saltwater so I wouldn't mind going to go catch fresh water fish take a photo and then release ! I just don't know where to go I have a kayak tinnie or will go off the shore any tips on bait/lures and areas to go nearby ?

    Cheers kaneo

  6. Hey guys!

Has anyone been up to windang lake for a fish the past few days? I plan on taking the tinnie up for the first time. Launch at the caravan side park boat ramp, head in towards the bottom of the lake just as it opens up and have a fish there just not sure how shallow it gets before the drop off I always see boats down there. Might go try my luck down there and hopefully get a few fish on instead of sitting there without any action!

    Cheers, Kaneo!

Mate, if you got a really nice flat calm day, you could take it out of the break walls no problems at all. I fished out of a 13ft 35 year old Quintrex about 3km out from those break walls and cleaned up. Inside the harbour is very calm. Along the eastern break wall it averages about 12m deep and can hold some decent fish

Yeah I see a lot of people fishing off the break walls at the end where the opening is for salmon and king fish , I've had no luck there myself but only been there few times. So I thought I might take the boat out there on a nice day and see how I go !

That's perfect for lake illawarra and the minamurra river.

I went to minamurra on Saturday morning was in the water about 7:30am we had 4 types of bait and no luck. Few small nibbles and a couple hits nothing landed...

so we then decided to take the boat to launch at Berkeley and head to lake Illawarra & fished there with two undersized flatties and an undersized brim or tarwhine. Water got really choppy heading back and was quiet scary, made my voice change when I spoke of how nervous I was HAHAHAHA ! Got back safe :)

  12. Hey Raiders,

Has anyone been out fishing in a tinny anywhere in this photo below inside of the break walls not outside as it would be to rough for a small boat and dangerous ? If so where abouts would be a good spot & how deep is the water there , too deep to anchor or will be fine within the break walls.

    Cheers kaneo
