I've also just purchased my first alvey set up and loving it, it caught a good size whiting first cast so it's know my "lucky rod n reel"...i fingers crossed it will catch me my first jew...One day,lol.. cheers Arron

    Sunburnt Lips

Hey Roberta,,, Being a surfer and a fisherman i have had to live with this sun burn you talk of on a regular basis.... The best preventative i've found is the good old original "Zinkstic". Applied nice and thick on bottom lip and on your top lip to otherwise you'll find over time your top lip will drag all the zinc of the bottom one... As for a healing balm this one i will highly reccomend after trying lot's of stuff the one i've found the best is called "Blistex".. My lips are currently burnt now after a long surf on monday and i carry the Blistex around with me all day apply the minute they dry up... Arron Edit... you can purchase the blistex at any chemist, comes in a stick, jar and little toothpaste like tube... The white one..
  3. http://break.com/index/cheaters-trailer-de...ed-by-boat.html I think i'm allowed to post this.... I loved it... Arron
  4. Very nice king Can only imagine the size of the one that busted you off.... size line ?? Given the reports of late sounds like the bay is holding a few good size kings... Congrats.....
  5. If any one needs a deckhand and there fuel payed for i would love to join in ???? I have my own gear etc etc Cheers
  6. i've decided i'm going with the improved albright with a bimini in the braid... I've finally got my Torsa 20 loaded up and matched with a jig rex and as this my first overhead reel with a lever drag i've had to set my own drag for the fist time and thoroughly enjoyed doing it.. i've loaded it up with 50lb "snake head / frog / power braided line and will be using 60lb "FC 100/ system leader" as leader material.... I,ve set my drag at 8kg at sunset which left me about 5 1/2 kg's on strike... I've learnt and tied the bimini in the braid and am yet to purchase my shock leader material to tie the improved albright... I plan to test every knot on my set up to hopefully insure not only that i'm tying them correctly but that i can maintain 8kg drag all the way through to the fishies mouth. Daylight savings starts soon can't wait Cheers Arron
  7. Thanks to all for there advice.... I have been using the (Standard) albright on my lighter outfits and am happy with it...Up until now i have been tieing the braid directly to my snap swivel and then about 2m of flurocarbon trace of that,,, i've only just recently learnt of shock leaders and the benifiets... At the moment i'm leaning towards the improved albright... If i was using 60lb leader with 50 lb main line,,, Would i make the shock leader out of 60lb?.... Is there a "rule of thumb for this"? Cheers Arron
  8. G'day all, I'm going to start using a shock leader on my 50lb braid king set up... Have been doing some research on what Knots to use to join the braid to the shock leader while maintaining breaking strain as well as size of knot so it will run reaonable smooth over my guides.... Just was wondering what you guys use and the pro's and con's you've found... Cheers Arron

  10. ....If you like grown men cuddling one and other so be it.... I enjoy a game of Rugby but do think there's alot more Skill and Precision involved in a game of soccer... Through a footy at ya mate,,,, then try to pass a soccerball to him at a distance ?? Try to dribble a soccer ball around him,, then try and step around your mate with a footy 10m in front of you?? Which is harder??? I also think that the way in which rugby is played allows for a more tackticle approach compared to soccer?? Just my 10cents worth
  11. Hi all, Picked this rod up at a garage sale the other day as it was so cheap, even though i had no use for it, i thought it could come in handy.. The brand on the rod is "D.A.M" it's 1.9m long and rated 50lbs......I've never heard of this brand of rod and was hoping one of you might of ????...So i can establish weather to hang on to it or not ???..........I've tried googling it but can't seem to find much information other than it's german! Any help appreciated.......... Arron

  13. My thoughts go out to all the family and friends. I myself have never launched a boat, but after having heard so many stories where a vehicle and the boat have ended up in the drink for one reason or another, One thing i will be making sure of is my windows down and seatbelt off... Cheers arron
  14. G' ady all,,,, I have an old 8hp mariner i was given some time ago and has ran beautifully up until my last trip out... When i went to start her and she didn't want to fire, i know i have plenty of spark... after several attempts she fired but did not want to idle so i had to keep the revs up and dump it into gear and then even once moving couldn't slow right down or it would stall... ( my two trips prior to this was using the same fuel and havn't played with motor inbetween, and motor was running nice, start first pull idle on it's own, click it into gear would still idle on it's own..) I have had the motor sitting since the last trip tossing up how to tackle this problem and where to start, so of i went to the garage this morning to rip of the carby a clean that out. grabbed the trolly the motor was hanging off and noticed a decent puddle of oil below it on the ground and upon inspection i realized it was gearbox oil and it was leaking out of my water intake holes ???? Now i have no idea where to start. Any advice of possible problems are welcome.... Cheers Arron
