Went out in the bay again this morning for some more rat fun, launched at yarra bay and made my way out to Molineux point. Conditions were set to be rather nice with basically no wind and 1mtr swell from the south east. Upon arrival there were 2 other boats anchored & and swell was a little bit more then a meter but it dropped right down to near nothing as the sun rose. A tug boat also greeted me with a solid 7ft wake which had my heart racing in the dark, had to pull anchor and nose into it otherwise that'll probably flip me.
Todays selection of bait included 4 nice arrow squid and 5 yakkas caught last night. Also brought 5 pilchards just in case.
Action was slow to begin with, with my livie getting chopped by a tailor, before hooking up on one in the high 40's on a squid strip, this was followed by a 60odd cm salmon which took a liking to a small live yakka. It went quiet again as the sun poked over the horizon.
Action only begun around 7.30 with a kingie on a live yakka in the 60's followed by 2 more at around 55 on some squid strips. 3 yakkas left, quickly went to 2 as I load up on another 60's king. Had to reposition anchor as it didn't hold due to it being only 3kg or so & the current was screaming along the wall because of the incoming tide. I prefer to be fairly close to the wall because i tend to get abit more action.
between about 8.30 and 10 i catch another 4 kings all the in the high 50's. low 60's, one of the kings on a yakka, and the other 3 on strips. Lost a good sized king on a whole squid because I tied a bad knot. whoops.
total of 8 kings, lost 2, 1 tailor 1 salmon.
Glad to be blessed with another wonderful morning on the bay, few days rest now with some average weather coming over.
No idea if i accidently used pics from yesterday, my desktops filled with fish pics, no idea which is which.

Good fun fighting them on a squid rod! Sometimes when I’m fishing for bait a small king takes the bait, and it’s time to hold on.
Were many people out on the water in the bay?
cheers mate, there were a few guys going out, but at the wall itself there were 5 other boats around me. not as busy as expected.

cheers Zarm exercise is no exaggeration especially when sitting down in the kayak, its all arms. when the rod on the left side goes off i cramp up every time. its not my dominant side.
can never beat a cloudless sunrise!

Gday raiders, went out Wednesday morning (8/03/2023) to target some kingfish & other pelagic that may also be around. Weather was set to be perfect with a very slight offshore breeze & N/E swell which meant very little swell inside the northern section of botany bay.
Armed with some fresh squid caught a few nights earlier and 5 yakkas for bait, i dropped the kayak in at yarra bay sailing club at around 5.40 and spent the next 10-20 minutes full speed over to the area I was going to fish. Full speed in the hobie is 8km/hr & the water was perfect, 24.somthing degrees, almost complete glass & zero wind at all. Felt like it was going to be a perfect day!
Once anchored, adjusted my sinkers to the conditions as the current was a little strong along Molineux because of the incoming tide & had my baits out by 6:10.
First hook-up was at 6.46am followed by, 7.03am, 7.33, 7.34am, 7.39am & 7.51am All on squid strips and sitting around 55cm. Live bait was bitten in half just before the gills. The bite went a little quiet throughout 8am, so id stirred up a idea of dropping down a squid strip on a 1/0 hook on my 1kg squidding rod & after about a minute on the bottom it loads up with another rat but after 10 minutes of fighting the fish the line gives out. Also had 2 other missed hook-ups just afterwards on the other rods.
Live bait rod buckles over just on 9am which resulted in a 61cm king.
A school of small Watson's bonnies turned up and caught a few of those on my light rod. they were about 30-40cms in length and all went back. Landed 2 more kings afterwards which got no pics off and were both in the high 50's again, and dropped 2 more before running out of all bait & heading in at 10am.
9 kings landed, 4 lost.

good job mate, was a stunning morning, flat and slight offshore breeze. How many kings you end up with? I found them on the chew today!

id have to give this a go next time i use some green prawns. it might be abit challenging to do so with the smaller ones but it doesn't look too difficult to do and you'll probably get rather quick at doing it the more you do it. Might be the difference on a slow day.

After recent success on rats in the bay, a few mates who’d never caught a kingfish wanted to get out and catch some, so after abit of late planning today was the day. Perfect conditions, with no wind and a mostly sunny morning made for a wonderful morning in the bay.
dropped my mates boat of at foreshore at 4.40am, which wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and made our way to point molineaux. On arrival there was one other boat so we got a spot and sat back. I already had lives I caught on Friday evening and 9 fresh squid also caught on Friday evening, I also had 20 litres of pilchard oil to make sure there’d be fish. My role for the day was to spread the kingfish virus, vaccinated or not.Rigged all the rods up as no one else knew how to tie good knots and even if they did I didn’t trust them. after however long it took me to tie 4 rods up I poked my head up and there was about 10 boats all around us and it was still dark. My mate caught a 33cm bream on pillie cubes while we were preparing.
6am rolls around and my mates rod has a king Playing with his bait so after a sharp strike and a short fight later a 58cm came on bored, the fish tangled with my line so I spent the next 5 mins re tying instead of untangling. First king for him.
after new baits in the water and rerigged rods I get hit and catch my 1st of the day which was about 50 followed by my other mate who caught one at the same time, which was also his first ever king which was about 50cm aswell.
the bite went quiet for a moment so i poured more pillie juice in and we all catch another king each which were all around the 50-55 mark.
charter boat besides us caught a couple aswell which surely meant happy clients, but besides that didn’t notice any other boats hook up.
the bite went quiet by 8am so we sat around for another hour and a bit and headed in by 9.30. The live bait went untouched so they were all released.
only one pic as I was busy netting, untangling, rerigging and unhooking. The action came and went & all fish were caught within about 45 minutes.

Howd you keep the yakkas alive in a bucket for so long?
I store them in a bucket at a baitshop, change the water when it goes bad and keep them at a constant temp. As long as you don’t man Handel them too much and don’t let them flap around on the ground they will stay alive for a long time. I unhook them inside the bucket as soon as I catch them

G'day raiders headed off to botany bay again to chase some pelagic action. caught some live yakkas and a handful of squid on Sunday evening and kept the yakkas alive in a bucket till Tuesday, Headed out at 4.30 and in the water by 5. Had a brief chat to another kayak fisho launching.
Once at point Molineux there was plenty of bait on the sounder which were more yakkas so I threw one out with a hook in it straight away and also dropped a squid down. The clouds were lit up by fire as (i thought) the port was doing some burn off, but later that night i find out a emergency at a nearby plastics plant. The flames were over 80 meters into the sky and i could feel the heat from the bay.
Anyway, a small rat kingfish took the squid at around 6-6.30 followed by another one 5 minutes later. Both were in the late 50's. By now 5 other boats were anchored nearby & no one seemed to catch anything besides shovel nose sharks and port Jackson's.
Plenty of large bust ups of salmon & bonito but didn't take any pillie cubes, squid tentacles used as a plastic or a 1.5 gram halco twisty. 7am and my live bait rod peels over and the fish goes straight for the surface and jumps around. 52cm salmon very fat, very healthy, took a quick pic and released.
the fishing mostly died down after that, schools of sweep were down deep and my livie had a few goes at it near by boats didn't seem to hook onto them.
10am comes around and i decide to head in, gave my livies to another boat hopefully they'd catch something.

the sensor rods are cracker, i got the sensor surf and i find its 100x better then the pen prevails. Its a fairly stiff rod and casts out big slabs no drama

if you dont want to pay so much for rods, the aquatip range is good at 90$ paired with a sedona reel which are about 150$ RRP. You cannoy go wrong with a stradic though

my dads always said the bay is cursed with us, never landing or finding decent fish so id say the curse is broken, for now.

yeah good sized ones too, with the biggest being high 20's, low 30's hoods.

Gday raiders, took the kayak out to botany bay to try for some kingfish action on Tuesday morning. But this trip actually started back on Sunday night when i decided i'd go out and catch 5 or so yakkas just in case there was no yakkas to be caught alongside point molineaux, so i made my way down to yowie bay boat ramp and caught a couple yellowtail easily before a school of about 100 squid turned up so i threw the one and only squid jig i brought with me and caught 20 squid in about 10 minutes. the squid promptly moved on so i threw my yellowtail hook back on and caught another 4 yellowtail before more squid turned up only to loose my jig to a bloody tailor instantly so i packed up and went home very happy.
Tuesday morning came around quickly and with a 4am wake up i head out to pick up the yellowtail which are still haply swimming around the bucket and make my way to yarra bay. unloaded all the equipment and i was on the water by 5am & started cruising over to point molineaux. Once i arrived it was just started to go first light and with a few anchor issues and a few anchor resets i was settled in. Almost instant large schools of yakkas turned up so i caught quite a few more "just in case". The conditions on the water was absolute glass, zero wind and a beautiful sunrise!
It wasn't until about 6am the first boat rocked up which was fishing Sydney charter boat (scotty lyons old business) so i immediately knew was in the right spot. I wasn't to pleased when he dropped anchor (or left his electric motor on spot lock) about 20 odd meters from be but oh well.
It didn't take long for large schools of bait fish were being attacked by small salmon which were being picked out by the charter boat, i didn't have any interest in them and also didn't bring a metal lure. but there was heaps of bait below me and some good marks beneath them which no doubt were kings!, So i threw my livie down which didn't interest them and nether did salted pilchard or slimies so i cut up some of the squid i caught a couple nights earlier and almost straight away it was king, after king. Everyone was onto kingfish, although most where in the 60's there were a few barely legals. There was a boat containing 3 morons on it keeping 40-50cm kings. got a video of them doing it too.
My livie goes off after about an hour of swimming around & i miss the hookup so i drop a new yellowtail down and he is eaten immediately on a 66cm king. a few more yellowtail go missing which i'm not too sure about how they got off.
By 9am the king fish have moved on and I've run out of squid and most boats are starting to pack up. I drop down some salted baits for a few small reds and stupid sweep so i decide to try for some squid at the base of point molineaux only to get snagged and loose my squid jig so i pack up and head in by 11am.
My total for the day was 9 kingfish, lost 3 larger models. the kings were in the 60-67cm range. These fish are also my first kingfish in botany bay ever as well as i usually catch them out of port hacking but I've been having it tough there lately so i gave up and went botany bay instead.

awesome trips out! good fun on a what? 5000 reel? its great to spend quality time out and by the looks of it a dream couple too! no asking the missus to go out for a fish when she'd tag along with you. love the photos as well, especially the last couple
i thought handling the bill without a glove was a no go?
