  1. Yeah mate I wasn't sure about it at first either but once you smell it it's unmistakable. Ive smelt them before off the rocks once too when they were holding in close right infront of the ledge ya fish from. It was like a mix between beached seaweed and raw metal, if that makes any sense ?
  2. Cheers man, its a little 2000 Daiwa Capricorn with a 7ft Ballistic-x. They're nice and lightweight ay it's a good outfit for the bream and flatties No worries James I rarely go out chasing a feed mate so pretty much all the fish I catch are released. I'm relatively new to the scene too defo no expert lol. the hooks aren't actually that large, they're a perfect inbetween size I think. You won't get many whiting using them but still hook the odd bream etc, whilst still being strong enough to hold onto something bigger. Size of the hooks I generally try to match to the size of the bait im using. 5/0 long shank for worms, two snelled 8/0 suicides for squid or slabs, etc etc
  3. Thanks James, pretty funny how its named mullaway I first saw it on the map and was like "yep definitely going there" lol Completely agree about worms off the beach for bait, it's all I use now since Ive learnt how to catch them. I was using a pretty simple rig that works alright, 20lb mono mainline with a running sinker clip, then a small glow in the dark rubber bead, joined to a 100lb swivel, then about 600mm of 40lb fluorocarbon to a 5/0 Owner long shank worm hook, they're a 5101-151. Another good hook is a Gamagatsu 01315. The owner hooks are offset and hold the bait in place a little better. Lately too rather than Snelling the leader onto the shank, ive been tieing a uni knot to the hook so the tag end protrudes back up the line, then snip it leaving about a 20mm tag. Then when you thread the worm up the line it acts as a bit of a stopper so the worm stays in place rather than sliding down and bunching up. It definitely helps I try use half a big worm, and if it's smaller I'll just use the whole thing, starting from the tail end and leave the head dangling near the barb. Better having the best part of the worm near the hook rather than up the line i reckon. Hope that helps ya!
  4. Hey yting, if you want live beach worms for off the beach I can try teach you how to catch them? let me know and i can meet you down park beach one afternoon
  5. Cheers man yep on a worm caught from the same beach that arvo. Threaded up the hook and leader with the head dangling a few cms. I found tieing a uni knot to the hook helps too as the tag end protrudes back up the line and acts like a stopper that holds the worm in place better.
  6. Yeah we love it up here, plenty of good beaches to choose from and a lot have 4wd access too which is a bonus. Thanks Dave, mate if you can get out to Anna bay try that little bay to the left of cemetery point in front of that little carpark. Right in close amongst the wash, that's where I lost the jew. Its only shallow I know but they're in there. Hope ya find some! Cheers Scratchie it's a good change from the bay. Not as nice as Port Stephens but pretty damn close. Mate in the 2 months Ive been up here it's rained once! Might seeya around anyway
  7. Sick report there mate, well done on the light gear too!
  8. Nice catch Dave plenty of action mate, solid flatty too. Spewing for ya about that Jew I may have to fish newy more often ? Give us a yell when you're up visiting the bay if you're keen for a flick!

  10. Ha ha ha! Gets abit full on up there sometimes, best fished at night lol. Speaking of Sami, landed this fat tarwhine yesterday afternoon up there, northern side of middle rock. Swallowed a beach worm
  11. Awesome Ill definitely suss that out, cheers mate for the tip Heard there's been quite a few along Sami lately as well
  12. Quick post from the weekend in nelson bay. The weather came good so decided to head up one of the local beaches Friday arvo for high tide with some beach worms. The recent swells made some nice deep gutters right in close which were full of whiting bream and dart. After 2 hours called it quits and came up with 4 solid whiting and a 45cm Flatty so wasn't too bad at all Couldn't wet a line Saturday, but hit the stones early Sunday off cemetery point in Anna Bay and managed a few chopper tailor and a 60cm salmon that was fun on the light gear. Got busted off by something bigger too that chomped a whole squid and ran for it, didn't have much chance on the 12lb mono! Takin a heavier setup next time for sure. Stopped off at middlerock on the way home with the leftover squid baits and got some small bream, nothing worth keeping but still some fun. Heaps of deep channels around there atm, think it might be worth going back on the high tide! Cheers
