  1. hey mate it depends what sorta fishing you're into. Ide take some metals and spin for a tailor or salmon off the rocks there. If you're getting on the piss then send a slab off the beach at night for a jew or a shark even? and if you want livies but aren't willing to travel anywhere then your best bet would be try and get a few live beachworms. If ya can't catch them, a good alternative is a live whiting..
  2. Anything that'll eat a soft plastic really. They vibrate as you crank them, hence the name 'soft vibe'
  3. Ahh don't ya hate that, should have stocked up! But yeh Ill be sure to remove the cheap trebs, honestly though if I'm only going for bream and flatties I prefer good quality trebles over a single hook. Harder to remove like you said, but a better hook up rate. The Owner trebles are so sticky! Really good
  4. Cheers mate, never tried a penn reel but a lot of blokes seem to like em. And even with 50lb the kingies make pretty light work of it ay, awesome fish. Hopefully they stick around for next time!
  5. Cheers Macca, just a simple surf rig - Running sinker clip to a 100lb swivel, glow bead to protect the knot, 600-800mm fluoro leader to a 5/0 offset long shank. Then I thread the worm up the hook and leader ?Its quick and easy to rig up, and rarely tangles.
  6. Stoked mate, would have made going to work alot easier I bet How heavy was the gear you were using?
  7. Thanks scratchie, think I'm just on a lucky roll And mate you're right about the beach selection, too many to choose from. Starting to love it up here
  8. Too easy, I won't waste my time then. Sounds like wilsons are the go! cheers for the advice
  9. Cheers mate, it's a pretty typical setup- 12ft surf rod with a 8000 baitrunner, 30lb mono to a 40lb fluoro leader
  10. Has anyone had experience using PVC yabbie pumps? I saw one advertised online but wasn't sure how they'de go, obviously lighter than the typical metal ones which is a plus. Could probably even make one out of Telstra pipe now I think about it ?
  11. Sweet little teaser Jon, good footage and edited nicely. love that big flatty cruising off right at the end
  12. Thanks for that mate ill check it out if these ones happen to be rubbish! Had a punt and got the ebay ones, 95mm were $30 for 8, and 70mm were $25 for 10. So very cheap, plus free shipping
  13. Cheers fellas yeah I wasn't keen on spending another $30 for one lure..So gave in and bought 8 for the same price lol. Hopefully they send decent colours :/ Richard these ones come with trebles already, probably poor quality ones so they'll get changed over for some nice sharp owner trebles, thanks for the advice though Arc H ill let you know if they're any good mate
  14. Lost another expensive vibe the other day to a snag, second or third cast ? So been thinking of getting some of those cheap ones off eBay, has anybody had any experience using them? They're a 95mm 20g mullet. cheers for any feedback!
  15. So fun chasing them on poppers! Nice mate sounds like a good day was had regardless
  16. Gotta be happy with that Jeff nice feed there. Were you just using bait or did you get the poppers out? Your posts make me miss living in the bay a lot! Lol
  17. Cheers guys many kind words, it's been a magic few weeks off the beaches up here the waters warmed up real nice hopefully it sticks around If it's a big worm use half, medium to small worms Ill use the whole thing. Threaded up the hook shank and leader ?
  18. Good to see Dave nice mixed bag. That battered fish looks so juicy!
  19. Cheers man, funny thing is that one from last week fought twice as hard! and was a fairly smaller fish. Maybe this one was already buggered ?
  20. Thanks fellas, I won't lie I'm holding the fish forward in the photos lol. It cooked up great and will feed us for a week easy ? Haha ide like to think so rick, definitely still a novice though in terms of jew fisherman lol. I think always having a good supply of beach worms has helped me the most. Since using them hookup rate has gone up a lot Cheers, mainline was 30lb mono to a 40lb fluoro leader. Which was more than enough. 4ounce running star sinker on a clip, 600mm leader and a 5/0 owner long shank
  21. Nice report mate, some cool photos there too! Love that sunset at Hat head did you manage to fish the death hole while you were there?
  22. Ide prefer fishing in big surf rather than when it's flat, but like everyone's said once it gets over 2m the sweep generally pushes too hard to hold your bait, plus big raging surf goes hand in hand with strong onshore winds that make life even harder.. If it's solid surf I try find a rip where the water flow is heading back outwards, instead of sideways across the beach
