  1. G'day Dan,

Little Slinky could tell you.... it's one of the reasons she's so keen on catching kings. As said.... the most important thing is to take care of your kingies once caught. I don't bother brain spiking them but I immediately bleed them and put them in a slurry of ice and saltwater (don't put them just in ice... as it melts the fresh water doesn't do the fish any favours).

Then like you thought, just fillet them, skin them & bone them. I usually cut each fillet lengthways then slice then halve each half again so I end up with 4 'slabs' from each fillet. It all tastes the same, but the prime cut comes from the top half of the fillet (only because it is a nice neat shape). Slice the slabs across the grain into pieces about 3mm thick. Make sure you serve it chilled. I've actually found that the texture of the flesh is even better if it's been in the fridge for 24 hours.

I usually mix soy with about 1/4 of the amount of mirin, then tuck in with as much wasabe as you like (the Slinkettes draw the line at wasabe).

Next time we're on the water together I'll wander over if you like and do one on the spot... a little bit of sauce in a container and we can live like kings (or Emperors?) on the water.

    Cheers, Slinky

    your on mate!!

Thanks to all for the advice, all I need now is the kingy tomorrow hopefully

  2. Hello all,

just wondering how people prepare there kingfish for sashimi?

Just wondering do you just skin and fillet and bone it then cut up into thin strips? Ive never done it before so am only guessing, didnt think it would be too complicated.

    Or am I missing something?

  3. Just found out I'm going to be a dad for the first time some prob going to sell my RC stuff to make room in my toy room and on Sunday might go down to the Spit and try some more of this Instant bait.

    Cheers

    Roffo.

Congrats mate - ILL HAVE A COUPLE DOZEN BEERS FOR YOU

Im heading out on the harbor for a couple hours tomorrow with Black CC (Tony) to chase some kings and the at lunch time heading down the south coast for a bucks weekend!!

  4. What a horrible predicament. I'm sure I read somewhere that this Friday sees a conjunction of moon phase, tide, currents, water temperature and bait migration that only happens once every 200 years and that the predictions are for the fishing to be mind-blowing... particularly from 10.30 onwards.

    So sad :1badmood::1badmood:

I'd love to help you out but I'm working to pay the boat fuel bill on Friday. Hope someone can help you out.

I'll be out with :1prop: on Saturday, so i'll be missing out on the wild fishing too... oh well.

    Cheers, Slinky

I do have a back up plan should there be no takers Slink its just a wee bit more of a hassle - but hey ill be fishing so no worries!!

ill leave a couple hoodlums tied to a marker for you to pick up saturday morning mate :074::074:

  5. Hello raiders,

Im looking to go for a fish Friday morning but unfortunately for me the :wife: needs the car for work. If anyone has a car that is able to tow my 4.7m Aluminium boat and wants to fish for kings let me know.

I live in Cremorne and will launch from Tunks Park (5 minutes away). My plan would be to go chase squid and yakkas at around 5am and then go chase kings for a few hours. I need to be back at the ramp by 10.30 so it would only be a quick session.

Post or PM me if you are interested.

  6. Hey all,

If i can do it anyone can.

  7. Hi ya

A buddy regularly snorkels for them, but you have to be really careful - when you spot them & go to pull them out of the crack/crevasse, they retreat back into it. Just make sure you don't get your arm caught in the crack or crevasse!

Didn't a well known League player get convicted last year for pinching lobsters?? Cheaper to buy them!

yes mate, terry hill and bob fultons son gone done

I can't blame you leaving Dan there's nothing worse than getting bowled over by a dozen galloping horses as they turn the bend in Military Road. A super fast and brave retrieve Dan !!

How's the home cooking nowadays Dan beats the old Watties ay!! :D

    Cheers mate

  9. Yes Dan that was us

You blokes were brave in that weather!

It was good without the crowds

    cheers

weather was fine mate up until we could see it come over near Watsons. We did head home but mainly because the races in Randwick were going to jump in an about an hour from when we left.

It was good while there was not many other boats there.

  10. Hello all,

Took my mate Booga (Chris) out for a kingy session on Saturday morning. Weather looked bad and I was hung over but that wasn’t stopping us from getting out. We headed to the Spit for squid at about 430am but didn’t manage to land any so on sun up took off into the harbor with some fresh frozen stuff.

Downrigged the first spot for about 30 minutes for no result. Booga isn’t really a fan of fishing and he probably thought dragging a big lump of lead around with 1 line out was garbage so I decided to head off to a marker anchor up and drop over a few rods. Not long after we got to the spot we were chatting away and Boogas line starts screaming he looks at me and says what the f!@# do I do. That one ended up dusting him but at least he saw some action.

After a little while we pulled up the anchor and started drifiting past the marker. I had a couple bites and then came up solid on a king, after a few minute tussle a healthy 67cm king was in the boat and faith had been restored. We took off to another marker a little while later because I was convinced I could get Booga into a king. We baited up and drifted the marker and afte a couple of minutes Booga's line gets smashed at the same time as a wave hits the side of the boat, we both hit the deck but the fish is still hooked. I coached him through it and a nervous 3 or 4 minutes fight Booga lands a nice little king at 64cm. A couple minutes later I hook up again and have another good tussle with a king, this one went 67cm as well but was twice as fat as the first.

We could see the rain coming from the East so we decided to call it a day there and head home for a feed of fresh fish and salad while watching the racing channel and having a punt.

Another good day out and another king cherry popped!! I think Booga may have changed his mind a bit on fishing now!!
