  1. I personally would not like to thank any posters on this thread as reading it made me remember smells I hoped I would never experience again, cleaning stock out of a mobile coolroom container after a electronics failure ( it warmed not cooled) with a forklift into a garbage truck, had to move container to middle of a nearby vacant lot due to complaints from neighbouring business 2 hundred meters away. Even the garbo wandered off upwind as he couldn't take it. Those carbon masks work but I swear evertime we used that forklift I could smell that tainted smell and we just threw out any clothes we were wearing. The jobs you do when young and stupid.

Iive had that before as well Mike.

A refrigerated 20ft container of packed mussels shipping from NZ to Australia back in 98. The freezer broke while in transit and the container got returned to NZ unopened. Those mussles were well baked by the time they got back to NZ after 2 trips at sea. The container got taken straight to the tip for emptying but had to be cleaned and fumigated by MAF.

When we opened this container in the yard it shut down ALL 7 of the surrounding buisness for the day. People hurling at there desks etc from the smell, it was the worst thing i have ever smelt in my life!

  2. the brother & father inlaws 5 shelf freezer plug came out of its socket in the downstairs laundry somehow once. Pilchards, left over yakkas, prawns, fish heads, prawn shells you name it all defrosted in the middle of summer just gone. After 2 days they went down stairs and nearly puked.

The smell was that bad the BIL duck taped the edges of the laundry door.

  3. Dan can you count me in with your rowdy pirate mob mate....

    cheers...steve......

For sure Steve, id love to bag you about the Roosters all day mate. lol, although the way the Eagles are going I have nothing to brag about!!

    Stewy

With Steve we could fill Billfisher.

  4. good point mate, all of my fishing is done in the river or harbour but a decent bow wave definately could cause a problem. I may have to design a lid.

Especially if you are anchored in the harbor somewhere and I big cruiser or ferry hammers past you. As the back of your boat goes down you may end up getting a heap of water from the next wave filling up the container and pushing all your fish out as well.

  5. Hi guys,

Just a couple questions if people dont mind answering.

I want to give the fad a go, do you think it would be okay for me to get there in my 15ft centre console with 40hp on the back. Obviously ill be only going in the right conditions etc

How much longer is the FAD out there and how much longer do the dollies normally hang around for?

Is it wise to have a livie down deep on my downrigger as im drifting past the fad?

Id like to head to the nearest FAD outside of Sydney heads, how many kms is it from there?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  6. Hello mods/admin,

Ive had a thought, beleive me it doesnt happen much.

I was just wondering if there had ever been any thought behind having some kind of SMS update section linked to Fishraider somehow. Something similar to Facebook where you can update your status from your mobile phone etc. But for raider a section where people who are actually out fishing could send current quick/short messages to the site telling others whats going on.

For example I could be out on the water fishing Nth Head and a massive school of salmon and kings were smashing up for an hour and if I was able to send an SMS to a number linked to the site which would then post that detail. When ever im about to head out I always check raider to see the latest news and having this might help people out a little. Or for anyone thinking about heading out for a quick arvo fish after work this might also assist them, say if anyone was down at Clifton land based and nothing was happening and sent an SMS through to the site, people might decide that they can cross that off the list and try somewhere else.

I have no idea what costs are involved, what behind the scenes type work there is to be done, how many people would use something like this both providing info and checking the info. Im merely just putting it out there as a suggestion and thinking out loud.

I know phones can access the internet anyway so people could post a quick report like that but not everyone has new phones and can get onto the net etc - a 25c text message would be much easier.

  7. Hi Fisherboy,

Congrats on so many fish ... must feel awesome.

Mate i am by no means trying to put you down or cause a drama, but just to inform you the legal size limit of Kingfish has gone up from 60cm to 65cm as of a few yrs ago..

Just be mindful of this and keep fishing hard..

    Cheers

OnAKing, He doesnt say that he kept anything other then the 66cm fish mate.

    Well done fisherboy.

  8. Hi Dan

Black smoke is indicative of too much fuel. Can be because of too much oil or the choke mechanism not turning off as well. Constantly priming if the needle and seat in the carby is not good will also flood teh motor

Was the plug wet and black wth carbon when you pulled it out?

All oils in theory should mix if they comply with TCW regs but is not good practise to do so.

Stuff the motor story - did you get some squid??

What did a new prop cost ya and was it all OK in the end?

    Yeah mate,

Ended up getting a few squid at the spit and more out at Nth Head. Even brought some home for a change. The prop and hub ended up costing 205 in total and the bolt was another 30, it works well now though.

So do you think with the motor not starting it was because of too much fuel?

  9. Hello raiders,

I went out on for a session Friday afternoon/Night. Everything was going along like normal but at about 10pm my motor wouldnt start for some reason. There was plenty of fuel, the battery was fully charged and it was turning over but it wouldnt start. Everytime I turned it over a lot of black smoke would come out and a couple times it would run for a couple of seconds, cough and splutter a bit and then cut out.

So I drifted back from the Spit and tied off to a mooring, I thought I may have flooded it or something. I left it for a about 20 minutes then tried again, it ran for about 30 seconds and then conked out again. I lifted the lid and changed a spark plug, I didnt think this was the issue though because it was still turning over like normal.

I then continued squidding for an hour and tried it again. I tried starting it about 5 times and a whole lot of black smoke kept coming out then after about the 6th go it coughed and spluttered and then start running. I let it run for about 3 minutes and turned it off. I fired it up again and she started again coughed and spluttered and then seemed fine. I shut it off one more time and then turned it over and it started straight away with no issues no stuttering so I untied and headed back to the Spit. It was about 2am now but from then on I never had another issue all day until I got out at 2pm.

SO I was trying to figure out what went wrong. Once I got home I realized I used 2 different brands of 2 stroke oil in my mix by accident and what was left of 1 of the containers was probably 6 months since it was last used. Do you think this was the issue? Maybe old dirty oil?

    Any help would be appreciated.
