  1. I know quite a few people who only use iso and i have to say it is very effective. The ranges of floats differ in sensitivity depending on where you are fishing and the finesse element allows you to fish light gear for bigger fish. The rods are thin but very shock absorbent and their special reels have a reverse switch which absorbs big dashes from drummer and groper as they dive for cover. You can get cheaper rods and its really fun because you get to catch kingfish drummer etc on light tackle.
  2. Thats a very nice catch there, some calamari to go with your fish, yum yum yum! cheers
  3. Watching everyone around me catch drummer while i have my bait stripped off my hook by massive yakkas and slimeys makes me rethink my whole “fisherman” thing
  4. Funny thing is, i cant catch squid for **** yet ive been inked by other peoples squid many times while taking a look ?
  5. When you have to, use fish market stuff or servo stuff but try to keep yellowtail, bonito, mackerel and others for bait if not eating (just leave some fish for the rest of us)
  6. If your gonna hold your rod i suggest paternoster but if setting and forgetting then running ball sinker rig is the go.
  7. Ooh if your beach fishing and there are swimmers around it might not be the best idea to put berley in the water. Can attract sharks and fishy tasting water. Otherwise catching or buying large mullet and putting slits in then will work quite well. You can buy pellets and powder and such as well as the old bread and water method but on beaches it can get washed away, therefore leading fish away from your bait. ?
  8. Yeah try to use other baits rather than servo pilchards beacause they get soft and are expensive. If you must then buy the unsalted ones and do it yourself but catching your own bait usually seems to be best
  9. Rather than buying those traps, using old clear juice bottles and stuffing them with bread can work just as well or even better. I find that when the mullet are being skittish they tend not to go for the big, bulky, coloured traps and i have more success with natural looking traps. As for yakkas well using small hooks with small baits are easier to manage than tangling sabikis which tend to be a one time use only. Cant help with whitebait though
  10. Hi guys, my recent trips to avoca rocks have been pretty successful but i would like to get into some drummer. I heard they like wash, cloud cover and they pull like freight trains. I think (more like hope) i have adequate gear for chasing them but im stuck on techniques, rigs and baits. Im not looking for any secret spot just a few pointers in the right direction. thanks guys
  11. Yeah thats pretty much right, using fresh or live bait when possible really helps your chances. If your not experienced i would recommend jumping into lures straight away and just sticking with the basics. Try to fish as light as possible for the conditions and fish around low light periods, preferably when they coincide with tides. use reasonable size hooks (not too big) and look for structure. This can be a gutter, a deep hole, a sunken tree, an island, rocks, seaweed and pretty much anywhere fish will feel safe enough to feed aggressively. good luck
  12. Nah they were in swarms taking pretty much every lure and bait hitting the water straight away near the bottom
  13. Back on the rocks today ended up with 8 slimy mackerel and a flattie caught on cut yakka and slimy. Flattie went 37 and the slimys werent measured but they were a nice size.
  14. Came back to avoca today only to be slightly delayed and only catch and few yakkas for bait. Staying the night and gonna try off the beach tomorrw with fresh strips of yakka on the way back i ran into a guy squidding off the rocks who caught a huge green eyed calamari about 30cm hood length which was reassuring in case i completely fail fishing off the beach, i can go squidding yaaaaay
  15. Nice catch there, im hoping to snag a few drummer myself this wednesday. Cheers
  16. The picture below from magicseaweed.com says that friday at avoca the swell is gonna be 1ft, which is flat as, now im having second thoughts! Does anyone know if this is accurate beacause apparently dummer etc dont like flat days (but last time a went on a “flat” day people were catching 40cm drummer left right and centre)
  17. Squid, bread and sea cabbage
  18. They dont smell too good
  19. I wish i knew, i would call it a pigfish but i dont know whats its actually called. It was very soft and slimy
  20. After a nice day at avoca rocks, i seemed unable to produce any tailor. Does anyone have any idea how to target them here? I tried just about everything and ended up with no tailor.
  21. I “rocked” up to avoca this morning arrived about 7am. Fished through the day, not hugeky productive but i did pretty well. No drummer for me today though unfortunately.
  22. The big rock platform on the right of clifton gardens, im pretty sure its called chowder head, i visited not long ago only to find tons of people casting float baits at diving birds. One caught a nice size slimy mackerel but i was wondering what hands around there. I saw some sea urchins in the water, should i use as burley? I don't go rock fishing much so help is appreciated.
  23. any good carp spots near sydney? i would rather not travel to penrith but i heard manly dam is alright.
  24. Hey all, under clifton gardens wharf i can see tons of big blackfish feeding but they wont take my bread bait and i cant find any weed around the area. any tips?
