We scored some great weather @Blackfish even when it rained it wasn’t cold. I love that photo Jake was pretty excited about his flathead. Thanks @masterfisho7 yeah it was a great trip. Cheers @Scratchie kids absolutely loved it. Already organising a return trip. Spot on @GoingFishing such a good place nice safe beach for kids to swim while we fished and had a few beers and a yarn. @JonD sure is a great spot mate couldn’t recommend it enough for anyone wanting a family getaway. So good having everything you need so close to a beach you can swim/ fish safely with young kids. With good options for a serious fish close by if you get the chance. I did hear there were some decent fish to be had close by so hopefully next trip I might get to have more of a look around 👍

We arrived at Murramarang Resort just after lunch Friday afternoon and as the kids had a swim I chatted to an old fella who had been fishing there over the last few days catching a decent Gummy Shark and a few nice bream. On hearing that it was time for a fish. We fished the late afternoon high tide and landed 3 salmon on pilchards before calling it a night. Saturday morning was a sleep in for me which I regretted when woken up by @jmk086 showing off 3 quality squid. The rest of the day was spent with the kids fishing and swimming landing a few small flathead, trevally and some little stingrays. We fished the evening high tide again but unfortunately the fish didn't play the game and didn't land a fish. Sunday morning was an early start as I wasn't missing out on the squid action again. We managed a couple of squid for the session and I got bitten off when casting a metal slug to fish busting on the surface near our rock ledge. More fishing with the kids throughout the day for more little flathead and rays. Overall nothing too exciting but enough to keep the kids entertained. Cheers, Trav

My motorguide links to my lowrance units via the NMEA2000 that you mentioned. I don’t think lowrance will connect to a Minn Kota but I may be wrong.

Hi Dave, I have a 80lb Motorguide xi5 on my 4.81 topender and it is more than powerful enough even on the roughest days. I wouldn't think you would need the 105lb motor unless you need the 72" shaft. @dirvin21 spot on mate when you think you start working them out they prove you wrong time and time again.

@big Neil those days definitely happen. I think I'll take him in the boat next time though I really don't like snakes.

@masterfisho7 definitely better than nothing. I was more disappointed for my mate not to get a fish but I don't think I broke him

We arrived at the Maquarie river at 5am to try get a good friend his first Murray Cod. I was expecting the river to be low but it was disappointing to find it low and very dirty. From there it was an hours hike into a location I have previously had good success. We arrived just on first light and fished surface lures until 8:30am. No action at all which was disappointing as I'd talked it up. Time for a morning coffee and to regroup. We changed up lures and headed further along the river. For the next 4 hours we fished hard throwing just about every lure in the tacklebox and the only excitement came from a couple of close encounters with very large red bellied black snakes. We had lunch and started making our way back. Once again no sign of a fish until we arrived back at the first spot we fished in the morning. Due to the shallow nature of the pool I decided to throw a shallow diving barra classic in gold colour. It worked well just hitting the tops of the rocks as I retrieved. As we fished our way along storm clouds were building I was hopeful it would bring about some action and it did. Over the next hour I had 3 hits losing the first 2 mid fight and landing a 45cm cod. From then things went quiet and unfortunately my friend will have to wait until another day to land his first cod. Cheers, Trav

Majority of my photos are from my iPhone and they are good quality but when I take my camera the quality is next level. This is especially the case in low light conditions or at night.

Great stuff some nice kings there! Kings off the stones are on the bucket list for sure.

I was very sceptical until that day. It doesn't make a difference all the time but I'll take any advantage I can get. Even if it's just a mental thing.

@big Neil I agree with you mate it’s more about lure selection and presentation however black is definitely a go to colour for windy but by no means is it the only one that works. I’ve had days where they would only eat fluoro orange ignoring everything else 🤷‍♂️. Another topic that raises a lot of debate is scent. Windamere has made me a believer in using scent as well. I was fishing side by side with a good mate same lures, same technique only difference was he was using scent after going 5-0 down I swallowed my pride and put scent on and landed 2 fish from next 2 casts. Possibly a coincidence but it made me a believer and I now use it all the time. I look forward to getting out for a fish hopefully soon cheers, Trav

4 am start and headed to lake lyell to redeem myself after multiple trips without a bass. The plan was the same as previous trips to fish over and around the weedbeds. I arrived and had the boat on the water before first light. Between 6 and 7am 4 fish were boated. All came close to timber amongst the weed on a shallow diving crank bait. Things went quiet on the bass front as the sun rose higher and the redfin came out to play. Fishing a 2 inch fisharrow flash j shad on a 1/4 ounce jig head I fished deeper weedbeds and managed one more bass around 10:30am. From then till I went home it was all redfin. Massive schools were found in almost every spot I stopped. Kept me entertained and plenty of yummy fillets for dinner. Cheers, Trav

Thanks mate they are getting better. It’s only cost me one landing net and makes me nervous every time they use one of my good rods.
