  1. Yes! I will be trying out that Cremorne Point spot very soon too. Do you reckon there are any lures that work well for kingfish during daylight? I heard they were hard to get on lures throughout the day.
  2. Hello, Im looking to target some Giant Trevally. I"m wondering if anyone knows how far south down NSW they have actually been caught. For obvious reasons currents will play a part but does anyone know how far south they have been reported? Any ideas or information would be greatly appreciated!
  3. 1 week back a few mates and I went over to Clifton Gardens for a fish. The wharf was totally packed and there was not much space but the productivity was amazing. My mates were targeting yellowtail for the kingfish livebait. They onto a few small squire and a very odd looking fish called an African Pompano (Are they rare in Sydney?). Only 1 kingfish was caught that day by a man who arrived very early. I Had a few small takes on my live bait (small yellowtail) but no kingfish. A little later I got onto a nice 34 cm Silver Trevally and later my mate got onto a small one that he lost wile lifting it up without a net. these were caught using half a prawn on a running sinker rig using 8lb Fluro. Later on I lost a good sized leatherjacket. Few other people at the wharf caught some flathead, Bream, Octopus, Trevally, Leatherjacket, Snapper, Flounder, yellowtail. All in all it was a great day fishing - for all those reading If you are planning on fishing at Chowder Bay you must get in as early as possible for the sake of getting a spot and catching Kingfish. All fish on the day were caught on the rising tide and high tide after that the fishing went very quiet.
  4. It's actually really interesting that a bottom dwelling fish like stingrays aren't afraid to swim up and take baits!
  5. Thats a Great Looking flathead.
  6. Thank you for the great information! I will reply with any success.
  7. Hey guys, im going fishing soon and am hoping to catch some kingfish(land based). I will be going with some family and I have previously fished at Clifton Gardens wharf but I find it to crowded especially when using multiple rods for targeting bait (yellowtail) and then using larger rods for kings. Are there any other less crowded spots (i'm not too worried about going on a little adventure to get there, as long as it dosent involve going onto the Sydney headlands that can be quite dangerous) that are just as productive. Does anyone have any ideas that would be very appreciated. Also any ideas as bait and burley to use for the Kingfish and yellowtail. I also will probably target some other species on lure when kingfish lines are set. Any information or ideas would be really appreciated as I am not very familiar with land based spots in the Sydney area.
  8. Yeah thats also a strong possibility!
  9. There are no juveniles in Sydney. 2.1 is minimum size. Read Research papers: Bull shark tagging Sydney harbour. DR Amy Smoothy.
  10. Thanks Guys, ray or grouper sounds about right, what type of grouper habit that area?
  11. Hey Man, im new to this site but i've been reading around and noticed your probably the person to ask. my brother lives at Mullumbimby and im looking to catch some Giant Trevally. I Read they were possibly a Habitant of Shaws bay but im sceptical. I will be going up from Sydney this winter. Are there any spots within the Ballina, Byron area?

If so, what lures or bait should I use?

    Thank you.

  12. Sydney is a seasonal place for bullies, only the large male and females migrate from Queensland and northern NSW to hunt. The bull sharks range from around 2.1 to 3.4 metres. there is no such thing as a small bull shark in Sydney. If you want small sharks head out towards the heads more and set lines targeting small bronze whalers, dusky sharks and other small species. just check the rules for the species your catch before you butcher one. Good Luck
  13. Hey I am new to fishraider and I am wondering about a fish that I lost while rock fishing for sharks at Austinmere near wollongong. I was using a simple float rig with 100lb shock leader to 80lb trace to a very large gang hook with a whole fresh dead bully mullet as bait almost 30cm long. After fishing for around 1 hour my float slowly went under and straightaway i was hoocked onto something enormous that wasent fighting very hard. There were a couple head shakes but it mainly felt like a massive dead weight. Before i got a glimpse of the fish it came off but the bait was still on the hook and was intact, no sign of teeth marks but the bait did seem a little squashed and mangled. Water temp was around 25 and depth was probably at 5 to 10 metres. Any ideas as to what took the bait, I am really curious and next time i want to try and target it more specifically for a better chance !
