  1. Hi Eladamrine, Not on the groyne and if there are, they are not long enough. The string weed are on the rocks underneath the foot path. I got my near the 'Omeros On The Beach' restaurant. Recently i fish on the groyne to the right of Omeros just for convenience as it is close to my parked car. All groynes hold blackfishes as far as i know. First rising mid tide are the best time for blackfish. As with other species of fishes: Trevally - heard nothing since 2 months ago - use bread for bait Whiting - heard nothing since 3 months ago - use nippers for bait Tailor - nothing since last summer - pilchard and hard body surface lure. Salmon, Kingfish and Jewfish on several occasion when there are lots of good size bait fish(yellowtail scad and garfish) about. Flathead - again not much since last summer. They are still about but in smaller number and size. Sometime leather jack close to the groyne if you use prawn pieces with long shank hook that is if you can avoid those pesky little wrasse. Legal size bream are rare for me and they are by product when i fish for bait fish. When there are no fish, there are always some rays and Port Jackson about especially if you use pilchard. When i am really bored and keep busy, i'll catch a dozen or so of those pesky little sweeps for fun. They are good eating if you deep fry them bones and all. No size limit i believe. You can found them at the platform to left of the Omeros. Cheers, PS. Remember to bleed the fish you are keeping and release those you are not. Watch out for size and bag limit.
  2. Great report. Looking forward to get my own caravan and do what you are doing...
  3. I haven't seen much fishing report being submitted recently! Is it because of the poor and cold weather, fish is scarce hence nothing to report!? I myself haven't been out for a while. Anyway... i better play my part and make my contribution... The weather finally warm up a bit. Has to get out. Planned to get to Ramsgate beach by 7am at low tide to pick up some seaweed off the rock. Had a late night, just couldn't get up even with the help of the alarm clock. Didn't get to Ramsgate until 10:30am at mid tide. I did managed to get some string weed but at the cost of wet feet, socks and shoes. The weather is great - nice and warm, and slight wind only. Water is clear without those garbage weed floating about. Caught my first blackfish on the first cast (float rig with double hook). Afterward, just mainly enjoying the nice weather and waiting patiently for the next bite. High tides at 1pm and since most weed are now accessible to the blackfish. I don't think they would be interested in the tiny weed on my hook anymore hence time to pack up and go home. Anyway, i ended up with 4 blackfishes between 30cm-34cm. It is going to be very windy and possibly shower in the next few days. I am not that keen when the wind keeps blowing sands into my mouth hence no more fishing until next Wednesday.
  4. Today is windy and good chance of rain. Needed to do some banking and shopping and... somewhat stressed. So decided to slipped a few hours fishing session between banking and shopping in the afternoon. For the last 2-3 weeks or so, the rock area in the evening are lined with people fishing for silver trevally with BREAD. They burley with bread and fish with bread. It is amazing how they does it. I tried to makes some bread paste at home and it was sort of successful as it stays on the hook but very low hit rate. One time, I think the people feel sorry for me and gave me some of their bread paste to try, not much luck either. They use small long shank hook whereas i uses blackfish hook, i tried to altered my blackfish rig to simulate their rigs as well but no luck. I guess that is what make fishing so interesting, the thinking, the trying and eventually result. Anyway, today i got the whole beach to myself. Blackfishing at Ramsgate has been quiet according to some of the regular and they all switched to trevallies. Just reinforced by the fact that the rock at the beach got plenty of seaweed. Normally they got strip clean during high tides when there are fishes. Everything points to 'No blackfish'. Got to Ramsgate beach at around 1pm, low tides and pick my share of seaweed. Still very cloudy and windy. Fish at the outcrop of rocks near my parked car in case it rains. Burley up but not expecting any bites and there isn't. Moving around the rocks looking for the fish blindly and because of the wind, choices are limited. After 15 minutes, finally got a bite. And after that, hits and misses but all around the same spot. Alarm on my phone rang at 3pm, time to go shopping. At the end, i managed to land 3 blackfishes - 34cm, 36cm and 41cm. Something to take home but most important part of all, i left some of my stress behind.
  5. Nice weather, low wind (12km/h)blowing outward, semi cloudy. Got to Ramsgate Beach about 2pm, almost missed the low tides to pickup some cabbage off the rocks. Managed to get a handful without getting my shoes wet. The weather was calm the last 2 days so the water should be reasonably clear. But, when i get there, the water is brownish with debris but clear enough i guess . Still low tide and in the afternoon, not expecting any bite...yet. Got 2 rods out, one with a float rig and other with a paternoster rig. The rest is just waiting... Got bored so flick a few hard lures out with a jig rod to see if anything out there - nothing. I would really like to flick a soft lure for flathead but forget to replenish my stock since i lost the last one last week - i am quite sure there is one or two flathead out there. After half an hour of waiting, the float rig is the first to score - a 29cm blackfish. Then later, 2x29cm and 1x31cm blackfishes with the paternoster rigs. The big one didn't come in until high tides and just before sun set. My shoes got wet but it is well worth it, one 35cm then a lucky last 38cm all on the paternoster rig. The sun is already down and i am on my last cabbages, no more bites so time to clean up and goes home. Having another bash at it tomorrow afternoon as the condition should be even better than today and expect better result!?
  6. Hi sharknett, I also heard the pike make good bait but the pike is too big though! Use as live bait as whole or dead bait cut up? I will give it a try next time.
  7. The king fish are firing up today at Ramsgate Beach landbased. I am so busy trying to catch a kingie with my lure, i didn't bother catching any blackfish. The little trevallies had turn up today, even a few yellowtail scad. I had no luck with any of my lures. Caught a pike and a flathead(just legal but couldn't land it) with the soft lure. Then something bite the tails off 2 of my soft lures so i switch to hard lure - no luck after that. The dude next to me already caught 3 kingies before i left. The kingies is easy, but catching the yellowtail is hard. If you have a yellowtail, you are almost guarantee a kingie within 5 minutes - it is that good! No keepers though, all 3 kingies are around 60cm. You win some and you lose some?! Well... at least i got a pike to take home. I am a keeper fisho, so as long as got something to take home, i am happy otherwise there is always a next time. Sorry no picture.
  8. Any rod and reel is fine but you do need a longer rod for the Float rig. Longer rod also make it easy to steer the hooked fish away from the dense seaweed bed and rocky ledge. I use both Float Rig and Paternoster Rig. Float Rig is more fun but only applicable when the water is calm and low wind otherwise i use the Paternoster Rig - only if no snag at the bottom or i want the rig to stay at one spot. I use 2 hooks setup so i can cover 2 different depth on the same rig. I always use flurocarbon line as leader only because i got them. Thinner line may have better hit rate but break off easy and i found the landing net troublesome so i use stronger & thicker line so i can pull the fish right out of the water. Bait i use string weed both fresh water and sea water depend on their availability. I do prefer sea water type because the sweeps don't like it. Cabbage weed is also good but i only had success with the tiny one grew in this area. There plenty of weed on the rocks at the beach. The string weed are always too short but there are plenty of tiny cabbage weed which is about the size of the hook(perfect).
  9. Hello fellow fishraiders, I had been reading this post for over a year. Finally get around to add my own post. I had been reading a lot of activities on Botany Bay but mostly offshore. I see a lot of people fishing landbased along the stretch of water from La Perouse to Captain Cook Bridge. I hope my input will help them. Ramsgate Beach: People i meet been telling me there are big whiting to be caught but i hadn't seen any myself. You see people using prawns, yabbies, pichards, and chicken but with very little result. You see lots and lots of small fishes such as Bream, Snapper and Sweep plagues the shoreline. The bait usually got pick off by them before any big one get to it but you still see occasional Leatherjacket, Flathead and Bream get caught. There are school of large mullet swimming along the shorelines and beaches but myself never had any luck of catching them. Most of the bread fisho had disappeared along with the Trevallies. The lure fisho and school of flathead hasn't turn up yet. There aren't any yakkas around and the tailor had completely disappeared. But, there are still plenty of blackfish. These are caught just this Thursday 27/4/2019.
