  1. Seems the new D40 Navara, and even the run-out D22 is a very popular choice
  2. haha yeah they are a bit on the sad side - lets hope some of this recent snow melts and runs off into them... there's probably not even enough water in Wyangala to float my big lump of aluminium stay warm mate!!
  3. Thanks for the comments guys - what a small world this is and a great forum! PM replied boofhead regarding your kind offer, and PM sent to Rich also Cheers fellas, Andrew
  4. Hi folks! I'm in the market for a new diesel dualcab 4x4 ute, and I'm interested in anyone's comments if you're driving or have driven the current model diesel Hilux, Rodeo, Navara, Triton or Mazda/Ford (BT-50/Ranger). They are 2.5-3.2litre capacities, common-rail and develop similar power (around 120KW give or take), BUT the max torque/RPM differs. Interestingly the Navara has the smallest engine but matches the Hilux for highest power (126kw) and makes the most torque of them all (403nM@2000rpm). Suggests it is running higher compression ratio or boost, I'm wondering what the implications are for longevity of the engine. This one comes with a 6-speed manual too. Features in the trim-level I'm considering differ a little eg. Triton comes with built-in Bluetooth carkit, but no cruise-control, others have cruise. I'm not sold on the styling of the Triton or Hilux, but can look past that if they are real performers. This vehicle would be a day-to-day farm hack, and family weekend runabout which would include towing a 5.8m Quinnie cuddy-cab or horsefloat. I would expect to keep it for around 5yrs/150,000km+. Due to my location it's not possible for me to visit every dealer, and if I can they might not always have these models available for a test-drive... After lots of research and feedback from other forums I'm currently leaning towards the Navara, then Triton (looks aside), then Rodeo. If you have any feedback or experience it would be appreciated!! Cheers! Holmesie
  5. Kinda makes you feel good to know that most fish we release really DO survive (but does it take a 1.5 million research project to find out!!?? ) Link to SMH article here Cheers, Holmesie
  6. thanks rod & wildfish will find a retrieve-a-mate and see how I go

    Lithgow Area

Hoping for more rain too!! Wyangala at Cowra is my nearest destination, and it's still below 5% as is Burrendong

    Lithgow Area

I believe Lithgow recv'd some quite decent rain. An inch on Friday and 3 inches over the Sat/Sun, not sure how "official" those reports were though... Hope that helps! Cheers Holmesie (We're less than 2hrs to the West and we only got 4mm ) EDIT: found official records here
  10. Thanks Rod, I think I'll take your advice and try a Retrieve-a-mate or Eziloader. I'm only worried about loading and from what you suggested and what I've read, it will probably be the answer. Also, your comments about the weight-distribution of the skids are wise, and it would probably be in my best interests to retain them given the poor-quality (rrrrough!) roads I regularly tow the boat on. Any comments on self-centring keel rollers? Useful addition or a gimmick? Probably they're not required if I get a Retrieve-a-mate. And thanks, it IS a nice sturdy trailer (the disc brakes are cable operated though, not hydraulic). It tows very nicely without any hint of swaying which is comforting as I've towed my fair-share of badly designed trailers in my time! Cheers Holmesie
  11. Sorry to drag up an old topic but I am considering changing my skids to rollers (didn't see the need to create a new thread ) Outnumbered, are you happy with the rollers compared to skids? I have a 5.8m Quintrex cuddycab and would like to fish solo occasionally; only thing stopping me is the fear of having to load by myself with any sort of crosswind... A rope on the stern makes it easier, but it can still be difficult. Any of your thoughts, experiences, info would be much appreciated! Cheers Holmesie PS: my trailer has 4 keel rollers and a skid on either side
  12. Love the Bar Crushers Verrrrry nice!!
  13. thanks again Greg, I had already checked out the marks from the front page, not much relevant to Narooma though and a search didn't unearth many either.. The Marinews site (http://www.marinews.com/fishing_gps_listing.php?sid=17) seems to have quite a few, whether they are reliable or not remains to be seen Cheers!
  14. Thanks for info guys, much appreciated!! I would have taken the boat regardless, but needed a little evidence to convince the wife it was worthwhile Nexus, I fished Narooma back in March and it was a good time to learn the bar there as it was relatively calm. Will certainly take you advice about putting in a Bermi on board though I'm still finding my way around the forum, is there a section where GPS marks are posted up? Cheers Holmesie
  15. Hi folks, I'm probably heading to Narooma for 4-5 days in the 2nd week of July. I'm wondering if it's worth dragging the boat down (well I'm not wondering, but my non-fishing wife IS ) Anyone able to comment on the fishing in this area during July? I'm happy to be outside or in the estuary Cheers and thanks, Holmesie
  16. + 1 living so far from the water I really need to plan for at least a 4-day weekend minimum, and this time of year it's hard to find the time in between farming and kids weekend activities!!
  17. can you pass on their details to me please Bertrand? or is it that same mob in S.A?
  18. MFG in this case I think stands for Manufacturer. The Penn website lists these guys as the service agent: Anglers' Central Service Centre 2 / 7 Circuit Drive Hendon, South Australia tel: 61 8 8244 8790 fax: 61 8 8345 1549 I've also got a Penn reel in need of professional service - has anyone dealt with them? Cheers Holmesie

    The Weekly Welcome

thanks gals - I like it here already not sure if I'll ever be able to make a social though :-( Cheers! BTW I've bought some gear from Wattos on eBay and been extrmely happy with the service - kudos!!
  20. Sound advice, Roberta!! We took this road last month on a trip up North; deliberately though, as I wanted to check out the camping area at Neranie on the top end of the Myall Lakes. Scenic yes, but it certainly wasn't overly pleasant in a diesel Rodeo loaded with camping gear and nearly 6m of Quintrex cuddy-cab on behind !! Anyway, we ended up camping at Mungo Brush on the way back home so in hindsight could have avoided it. Cheers! Holmesie :-)
  21. Hi Guys 'n' Gals, Thought I'd introduce myself. Haven't fished since I was a kid, but now I have a family of my own I've started again. Bought a Quintrex cuddy cab with 150 Evinrude, to use both for fishing (oh, and and recreation). I live in country NSW and the closest water is Wyangala Dam near Cowra (near empty at the moment ) Anyway I actually prefer saltwater fishing, bought the boat in Feb and I've already fished at Narooma, Port Macquarie, South West Rocks, Yamba and on the Myall Lakes - addicted?? me?? Anyway, my tackle and tackle experience is sadly outdated and lacking, so I hope to pick up some ideas from you people out there catching the fish See you on the water Holmesie
