  1. Ive been to these spots many times with minimum success, I do have a few tips for you though. Get there early as the other guy said Check the wind before you go, being right at the point 35km 45km gusts are common, fishing near kyeemah boat ramp can provide a bit more releif Take a couple of rods, the big fish there are very used to seeing big lures and baits, you will be suprised how many times people will have success on bream gear Check out IndoSydneyFishing youtube channel, I have fished with him a few times and he frequents this area. A lot of land based kings and trevs. Sadly I have to travel and hour each way to get there (thats assuming you dont get caught in the airport traffic) coming home empty handed isnt fun.
  2. Thanks mate, Ill definitley give that a go in the coming weeks. Akuna bay is another place around there I plan to try, Ill be bringing some medium gear with me this time.
  3. Ive never been able to do an underhand cast properly and when I do it lacks an real accuracy. Two handed game is good but not great. Defintiley and interesting read.
  4. I try and stay clear of the more popular land based spots at this time of year, not only for this reason but also because I just dont find it enjoyable having to watch where Im casting constantly because there are 5 people on either side of me. Rock ledges are the worst for this.
  5. Hey Neil I typically fish really light, if Im going for surface I will up the leader to 10lb mono. The fish dont care and it doesnt stop the hookup rate. You also have way less chance of getting snipped by a little chopper. The rod Im using for topwater is an atomic arrows estuary 701 ultra light paired with a stradic 2500, very tippy and great for chucking topwater. Dont let this rods ultra light rating fool you, I landed my pb aussie salmon on topwater it came in at 65cms. Cant say enough good things about the arrows rods, will definitely get another one. The other setup I used briefly was a Daiwa TD SOL 701 2-4kgs paired saltist backbay 3000md which is an import reel. Its spooled with 10lb nomad pandora, I usually use it for bass and flathead.
  6. So I had planned to take the yak out to a new body of water (New via yak not land based) original thread here - I got there about 7am, when I got there I was greeted by a fellow fisho who gave me a few pointers about the area, gotta love fellow fishos. Anyway the weather man was wrong as usual. It started pissing down as I arrived, then cleared up as I got into the water. I paddled out to open water and started to scan my surroundings, being an urban fisho there wasnt as much structure as I was used to so I started casting at droppoffs. Nothing for the first 40 mins or so, So I kept paddling. Eventually I found a large sand flat. I know sand flats so I started casting topwater. Heaps of small tailor. A seemingly endless supply. Got a couple of pinkies too. Anyway I bumped into the fisho again and had a good convo. If you are around John thanks for the tips and the story about the 75cm topwater flattie you caught. Turns out one of its sisters took a liking to my bent minnow.
  7. Thanks mate, Very helpful advice. Should I be throwing plastic and cranka crabs at the boat hulls around the marina? Do they hold much bream? Ill take one light and one medium setup with me. Cheers for the sub, yeah that trev went hard on the light gear, took me a while.
  8. Hi Guys Looking to take the yak out to somewhere different on Saturday morning. Im planning too launch via bobbin head picnic area around 7 30am. Im somewhat new to kayak fishing specifically as I just got my hobie about 2 months ago. Have only taken it out about 3 times and with the weather getting better I figured its sime to put in some serious hours in places Im less familiar with. Im predominetly a catch and release angler but I might take some legals home with me this time. I also run a humble but growing youtube channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRMY8jyUaZ6_EvUY7Kc6Xtg Anyway if anyone knows the area and like to chuck a line Id be happy to link up, drop me a message through here and Ill send you my contact details.
  9. Hey mate, I live in the parramatta area but I do head out to the botany area for some landbased action now and then. I dont own a boat but I do have a kayak. Ill be happy to drop you a line next time Im around there, I fish the bread and butter stuff pretty regularly so Im sure I could get you onto a few.
