  1. Hi Ethan, I have a 2005 Barcrusher 560C with a 115hp Yamaha saltwater series 2 stroke. I've owned the boat for 5 years or so and am very happy with it. The 560C is now the 610C if you buy new. I've taken the boat pretty much everywhere from catching perch up the river to marlin out wide. I believe they are a well made boat with few major faults. The main issue I see is that they are weight sensitive and need to have weight distributed evenly. They are a bit wet in a quartering wind. The ride in all sorts of swell is very good without a tendancy to broach in a following sea. For me it does the job I want it to do very well. Best bet is to go for a ride in the particular model you like and then compare it to others you are interested in. Good luck with your search....... Dave
  2. Hi spooln it's a fcv585 with a 1kw transducer.........
  3. Hi GaryO, Not sure but saw a couple of adult humpbacks and a calf at the back of the boat. Dave
  4. Hi Mike, It very well could be. The green scattered dots between the marks is a thermocline I believe and the mark at top could be another whale, different shape closer to the top of the beam/cone would be my guess. Dave
  5. Yeah it was a pretty cool sight. The place is alive with whales at the moment........... Dave
  6. Hi folks, I was out fishing with a few mates on Tuesday off Moruya heads. Things were pretty quiet until a small pod of whales came up about 50m behind the boat. We watched them dive under the boat and come out the other side. As they did so, I got a great screen shot of the 3 wales on my Furuno sounder. Thought you may be interested. The fishing was pretty slow but ended up with a feed of flathead and some fantastic memories. Thanks..... Dave
  7. Wasnt me im away in qld. My mate was out today just said he was out over shelf cant help much more than that. Ive been away for a week but it was quiet before that. Always worth getn out though...
  8. Not too sure on size my rod was 6' long and she was easy half that. Being in the middle of nowhere hard to weigh her but she was a beauty....
  9. Off on a two month holiday with the family towing the camper trailer. Fished in a creek out of 1770 and have a look a look at the crocs up here!! Got her on a gold bomber. A few pics and off she went.......
  10. Mate was out today no fin but got a 90cm dolly off a log. 21.8 over the shelf. Could be a good weekend.
  11. Thans for the offer Herb much appreciated. Dave
  12. Well hasn't this generated some interest! Thank you to everyone that has posted. It has given me great food for thought. I appreciate all the input from the average punter and the working professional in the boating industry. But this isn't about brands. I think all brands of outboard are extremely good motors, all of which have positives and negatives. When I get some facts and figures on the possibility of importing a motor I'll let you know. For now much appreciated everyone and thanks to you all. Dave
  13. Thanks testlab very interesting reading, much appreciated. Dave
  14. Hi Whaler, Thanks for the input much appreciated. I agree, just because it's a grey import doesn't mean it's any different to what we get here. I've purchased boating parts and electronics from o/s and have had very positive experiences and saved a heap of dough. If you have any contacts I could get in touch with or tips as to where to shop for an outboard it would be much appreciated. Feel free to PM me if you wish. Thanks again....... Dave
  15. Hi guys, From the enquiries I've made with a number of company's in the US, they are in the main, not willing to ship an outboard out of the US to another county. It seems they get a bit of grief from their suppliers if they assis with grey imports. As for warranty, there does not appear to be any for grey imports in Aus, unless you return them to the country you purchased them from. I am yet to obtain full details on what is supplied with the outboard ie.prop, gauges, forward control etc, nor have I been given a costing. When I do I will let you know. Thanks to everyone for your help. Dave
  16. Thanks Dunc, all things I have kept in mind. I've been in touch with Huey and he has given me some very sound advice. The help is much appreciated. Dave
  17. Thanks Jeff, all good and relevant points. It's just an idea at this stage, but much appreciated. Dave
  18. Hi folks, I'm thinking about repowering the 560C barcrusher with a new outboard, either a 115hp Yamaha or 140hp Suzuki 4 stroke. However the price locally is quite steep considering what they cost in the US. Has anyone looked at or had experience with importing a new outboard from overseas. I've made contact with the site sponsor Wye River Marine, who were very helpful but unable to assist. Just toying with the idea at the moment as I don't know if the potential saving is worth the risk/effort as there is no warranty for grey imports in Australia. So, does anyone out there have any info or experience to offer. Thanks......... Dave
  19. Hi Penny, Welcome to the forum, and good on ya for thinking outside the square. I have lived in the Batemans Bay area for the past ten years or so and the majority of that time I was in the Police locally. I wouldn't agree that Ulladulla has a drug/crime problem. It is no better or no worse than any county/rural/coastal area in NSW. I think you could do far worse than living in the Ulladulla/Eurobodalla area. There's just been a new shopping centre built in the main street of Ulladulla, Milton has some beaut shops, cafe's and restaurants and for the most part the people are friendly and welcoming. If you have a particular suburb in mind to live, call in at the Local Police Station and have a chat I'm sure they will set you straight. As for the medical side, GP's are a bit in short supply but the major centres of Sydney and Canberra are not too far away. Take your time and have a good look around, I'm sure you will find a fantastic place to live. All the best on the prospective move.... Dave
  20. Hi, I have had the Lansky diamond system for over a year now and it is simple, effective and reliable. The best system I've found in over 40 years of fishing. After 5 minutes on a well used knife I can shave the hairs on my arm. Give it a go, it's great and so easy to use. Dave
  21. G'day Erroll, Yep very happy with the unit. It's taken a bit of time to get use to and I'm still learning to drive it, but gets better all the time. Don't tend to use auto too much anymore and I definitely get better results. I've networked mine with a furuno gp700f and use the sounder to mark spots. Much more accurate than the gps alone. It's a real bonus when trolling and you find a good looking area, takes me straight back every time. Good luck for the summer, can't wait to see some blue water. It's very green and cold down here at Batemans Bay. Dave
  22. Hi OJ, Thanks for the reply. I'm glad your happy with the new transducer/sounder set up. In the end I bought a FCV585 and TM260 transducer. Couldn't be happier, getting great bottom readings at speed and sounding out schools of fish at 500m is not a drama. All in all a great combination. Best of luck up north......... Dave
  23. The gurnard is very under rated, tastes great............... Dave
  24. Hey, well done that looks like a beauty of a brook trout. They just love those scrub worms! Glad you had some success, Jindabyne is a great spot for a fish...... Dave
