it will be a challenge when starting off using baitcast. I got bird nesting all the time. but keep trying, pay more attention to your thumb pressure and use the mechanic break and magnetic break as your asistance. Once you mastering it, you will enjoy the sensitivity and controls baitcaster can offer.

nathen, I'm going to live in Currarong town. somewhere close to the rock pool. are you fishing Beecroft during easter as well? dinos22, Thanks dude! I've heard Jervis bay, Beecroft are premium LBG spots. Not sure this is the right season or not though. I do have some heavy gear for gropers. But I really don't have all the monster gears with huge spools for big tuna and marlin off the rock. But i will try my luck on big kings on my Abu Garcia 7000. Even witnessing someone hook up a black marlin off the rock will be awsome!

I caught groper on cunji, prawn, and crabs. I believe the reason you don't catch groper on prawn or cunji often is they will get nibble off by small fishes before the big groper even sees it. So yea...crab is the way to go for big groper as it stays on your hook longer. among all sorts crabs, red rock crab is definitely the go. But some of them I caught are so huge. I still have problem putting them on...lol. Cutting them in half will attract groper as the smell sprays around. But it will also atrract all other rabbish fishes come to have nibbles. So I don't suggest that. Just wack the whole crab down and make sure you pull hard on them. tight your drag and just pull!!!

G’day raiders, Plan to go to Currarong during Easter. Looking for some help about fishing there. 1. What species are on during easter period around there? 2. Rock fishing: looks perfect from google map, I’ve found couple of spots looked decent. Does anyone know who to reach any of the spots? I don’t have gear for those famous LB Marlin or Tuna. But fishing kingie off the rock or catch some drummers and gropers, good reds will be my goal. 3. Beach ledge: does Salmon, tailor hangs around there during this time of the year? I would love to flick some lures during the morning as we live quite close to the south end of the beach. 4. Beach fishing: worth a try? Thanks in advance for any help!

I heard for mud crab, you stop the crab moving by folding their legs and claw towards their body and wrapping the their legs with rubber band or strings then put them in a box with some threaded paper or wood and then keep them inside the chill room of the fridge, they will go into a hibernating state and you can keep them alive for longer time. Not sure if it will work the same to blue swimmer though.

yea...those crab net are for bait crabs. most of the time you will be catching black crab and red rock crab over any rock structures. they are good for groperfishing. you can also reach those crabs at low tide when searching small gaps, holes round at rock ledge. specially low tide at night. just shoot your torch light towards them and grab them quickly, they don't move much. But take extreme attention to the mother ocean when searching for those crabs at night. always have your mate looking at your back, and don't go at big sea, there is no point. cheers.

Hi Dlai, The red meat inside the cunji is the right part to use, just cut a piece of it off, put through the hook couple of times and present it flat and nicely, then toss into the water and waiting for the hit. There is a bag limit of 20 for using cunji. but that should be plenty for a good section. berley up with bread and some nice drummer will be on the chew. Most of the rock fish will take cunji. drummer loves cunji whole a lot. 1/0 hook is my choice for drummer. groper takes cunji as well. but it usually got taken by other fishes before a groper sees it. You will also catch millions Kelpfish on cunji. Those pests generally take anything you throw into the water and i'ts dam hard to get back the hooks as they usually swallow the whole thing! for crabs, you can buy those crab net from any fishing store. Those round and statium shaped one. get some pilchard or any smelly fish put into a stocking and crush them, then chuck into the net with some rocks to keep the net sit nicely underwater, toss it in some rock holes and wait for retrieve. There is also a bag limit of 10 for red rock crabs, so mind your takes. Hope this helps... Cheers, dreaflym

Spinning or overhead reel? if its overhead reels, I found Abu Garcia Ambassadeur series are pretty good. I have the Ambassadeur 5600C4 for casting median to heavy sp, very smooth action, great sensitivity with a graphite rod, quite reliable as well. Cheers.

I tried drummer sashimi once..... not so bad i should say. the flesh is bit tough, tasty though. Octopus is good too... In my opinion the top 3 best sashimi should be ranked as such: 1. Lobster 2. Squid 3. Kingfish Yum!

I saw that long coal wharf sticking out into the ocean, will you be able to fish up there? if so, what can be caught up there? It's bit far from where we live, but that place looks really attractive! Really appreciated with all the great info about central coast fishing guys! Now I don't even know which one to pick for my 4 days fishing trip! lol...

didn't know there is a sewage there...I chose winnie because heard avoca could be very crowded during holiday time and there are kings around winnie. it will be still fun to catch an release all the fishes. but if the water is smelly then i wouldn't go for that...Thanks for the information copafisher! will give copa a go as well if weather permits...do you fish the south end or the north of copa?

How you guys wash the line though? I heard salt harden and damage your line. But how you get rid of the salt from whole spool of line? I tried to unspool them and soak in the bucket. But when I reel them back in it ended up tangling so badly. Took me forever to untangle them….

Hey fellow raiders, Gonna head to central coast to wet my line there during xmas. Going to stay in Saratoga area . I’ve never fishing in central coast so I really need some help there… I’m landbased fisho. I’ve been hopping the rock, fishing at the wharfs for some times but only around Sydney areas. After some researches, me and my mate plan to night fishing at Saratoga and try skillion, avoca, or winnie for the day. For rockfishing, I’m after pelagics. I’ve seen people landing big kingies on the wharfs, down the rocks but personally never succeeded (had couple of kingie encounters on livies but always pulled hook due to inexperience). But it’s always dream to land a kingie or sambo or bonito off the rock. Just wondering is the kingie or bonito action on at central coast at this time? What kind of livies are the best options for those fishes? Is spinning lure a good choice off the rock as well? If so what kind of lure is suitable? Chrome? Surface popper? Or SP? I also talked to one of my work mate who lives in Gosford area about how to access to winnie. He hasn’t been fishing for a while but was quite keen into it. He told me we can walk off from Cape Three Point road to winnie. I quite long walk though. Not sure is this the best way to get there? Is it possible to walk along the rock from avoca to winnie? About night fishing at Saratoga, what can be caught there? I’m guessing there must be some bream flathead around to keep us entertained. What about luderick and squid? Do they hang around near that area? Will be good if we can jigging some live squid for the rockfishing session next day. Any help will be much appreciated!!! Finally, wish all raiders a good and fishy xmas! TIGHT LINE…..

I saw them swim around the harbour last January near the bridge. They all around 60cm mark. I SWEAR they are the most powerful fish in the harbour. They take bread as well. But you got to free float the bread or use very very tiny sinker as they are so cautious most of the time. I had couple of hook ups with those beasts last year. I wasn't really targeting them the first time. It took my 10lb handline and pulls like a rocket. I got a deep cut on my finger and bled so badly from that hook up. The bad thing about catching them is you got to use small size hooks as they have really small mounth. I changed to 80lb braid with Mustard size 1 hooks. But the result was snapped and straighten hooks with no success of landing them. There is no way Mustard hooks can stop them from diving in. If you loose the drag and let it run, it will cut your line around the wharf in seconds. You really need some top notch equipment to get them. I'm going to give them another go if they are around! Hope I have better luck this time...

Thx for all the suggestions.. I will go take a look anyway. with the grim weather condition. I guess we will try beach fishing for salmon on the beach more often. Does anyone know any spots near the blowhole and small blowhole? it looks promising as well..

Thx CaineS for your detailed descriptions. I can almost figure out where the spot is. I guess it will be either Spot A or Spot B on this map. if I'm right Spot B is more likely the place you were talking about. Do you think that's the right spot? Cheers
