  1. whereabouts did u find the slimies? if you're willing to share
  2. a fish thrashing around will spit the hook unless he is hooked well or he is too tired to fight on the way up. unless your line is frayed from pylons or rocks it will be more than enough to lift the fish. for me it is quite rare that the line breaks while lifting, rather that the fish spits the hook. grabbing the leader will be much easier than the braid mainline while lifting
  3. my advice would be to only lift any big fish from wharves if you are confident that the line will not break under its weight, and that the fish is hooked well enough so it will not throw the hook. a longer rod may help you steer the fish clear away from the pylons easier
  4. have not been able to catch livies lately, strictly stickbaits
  5. was busted off by a big king around 90cm off the rocks at avoca today, landed a rat but quiet otherwise
  6. there were plenty of legal luderick around pylons in the harbour yesterday, stuffed full of roe. had some good fun on light gear and bread before the damn scuba divers came in and chased every school away, leaving none to be found for the rest of the day
  7. very solid kingy nice job also a great jd, they are great eating
  8. not on the day but i heard talk of a couple being pulled in last week
  9. im mostly worried about the rod, shimano spheros sounds good to me, although a bit higher than my initial budget but i can make do. do you have any stiff rod suggestions?
  10. Interested in spinning off the rocks with a slightly heavier setup than i have now, which is a shimano sienna 4000 paired with a 5-8kg 10ft rod. Trying to chase small kings without getting completely smoked. I prefer rods around 9-10ft and something i can cast all day without getting too tired. Budget is around 200 per piece, any help is appreciated thanks.
  11. Hey guys, first post here so go easy on me Headed down to south avoca to fish the turn of the tide after hearing of pelagics in the area, it was pretty quiet all day until about an hour and a half after low tide. One guy snagged a nice 50-60cm piece so i decided to start throwing my x rap about 20 metres down from him. After 10 or so casts my rod keels over and a huge salmon starts pulling, thought it was a king after some bright yellow flashes but soon realised it was a salmon after some small jumps. Good fight on 12lb line and my first salmon on spin! Ended up going 67cm but didnt land any after that, however there were huge bust ups about 150m offshore. Thanks for reading if u made it this far
