Hi BigHorse. What do you intend using the tinny for? A must do (in my opinion) would be a 30 - 40HP motor. Maybe the 9.9HP would suit some situations but it's not going to get you out of trouble if fishing tidal or fast running areas. Definitely casting decks if you plan for lure fishing (mainly). I have a small tinny 3.45m with a 15HP Yamaha (tiller). It has 2 benches so I built a level floor between them and mounted a pedestal for my rear seat which is removable. This allows me to comfortably plant my backside on the pedestal seat and cast lures and spinnerbaits for Murray Cod...using the electric which is bow mounted. This set up is ideal for my purposes. I have also installed lights, home made rod holders (some showing in photo) and a forward storage area. Cheers,bn

    Hey Big Neil,

I'm planning to go out in Lake Macquarie not offshore in anyway so don't need big hp on the back. We've already got a 9.9 on the back and don't think i'll change that. My dad doesn't want a front casting deck but i would like one as want to start fishing soft plastics a vibes.

    Thanks all👍

  2. Hey fishraiders,

My dad and i have finally decided it's time to start fixing up our old tinny to a nice fishing machine.

We've had a look around and seen some idea but am wondering if any fishraiders have any tinny "must needs" that they wouldn't go without.

It's a 3.8m tinny with 3 benches. feel free to pitch anything.

  3. Hey fishraiders,

I was browsing fishbrain (which is a fishing instagram thing) and saw that a person had caught a cobia around belmont? I thought cobia only stayed up north on the queensland reefs?

Could this photo be fake or do the occasional cobia come down south?

Can’t help you directly as I haven’t fished the lake for a long time and when I did it was always down the southern end , if you don’t get any replies from any other Raiders you could try some of the suggestions below .

Great work on your 1st beach catch

If I lived across the road from one I think I'd be over there every day, even for 30 minute trying to catch something for dinner 🙂

Well I bet you& your dad are hooked now 😉

Totally, we plan now to go over once a week!😄

  7. Hey Fishraiders, just wanted to share an early morning beach fishing session.

My dad and I have always wanted to go beach fishing as we live opposite the beach in newcastle but have never had a proper chance, but this morning we decided to wake up early and head down. We went down around 6 in the morning. We were using at 12 foot shimano combo beach rod and a a 10 foot beach rod and reel from my grandparents house. We were using a simple beach sinker with a swivel with 40cm of trace to ganged pillies.

Anyway, we went down on dixon beach and found a nice gutter going along the beach. We put the pillies in the water and soon we had a nice small tailor on the sand. We were using a slow wind with pauses retrieval for this fish. It was about 20cm. The second fish my dad caught. It was a small 23cm tailor. He just left his rod in the rod holder and let the fish hook itself. The 3rd fish was a beautiful 35cm winter bream. Being my first legal fish off the beach I was pretty pumped. We decided to brain spike it and bleed it for dinner. The last fish was also another small tailor.

For my first ever beach fishing trip i was amazed how simply and fun it was to catch a feed of fish off the beach! I hope this report has helped some people who aren't quite sure how to get into beach fishing. Thank you.👍5D8DB6D3-F021-4B84-B1B8-66BA19AF4BFD.thumb.jpeg.8bc1d72a332a117cfe88b0de9155f98d.jpeg

The beaches will be very busy, If you want to try go late afternoon. Also manly dam is worth trying if your interested in freshwater (carp, bass, refin). I would suggest early morning or evening to night if you want to go to the wharfs as they get very busy. Narabeen is awesome for leather jacket, got my first one there, prawns work well as well as pipies.

Hey slothparade, just looking around the Narrabeen lagoon area and looks very fishy! I've read that flathead, bream, tailor and all the other bread and butter species are there. I'm guessing flicking some 3 inch berkley plastics will work fine for most of these species. Thanks ( just read also that NO fish are allowed to be taken from Narrabeen Lagoon area? Can someone please confirm?)

  9. Hey there,

I'm heading down in the school holidays to Manly for some fishing and am wondering about the fishing. I have been looking around

but haven't seen anything worth remembering. I'm hoping to get some guidance around spots and what to use around the Manly. I can do most types of fishings as in off wharfs and beach. I don't have a boat and don't particularly want to risk my life fishing off the rocks.

Any sort of help would be awesome!
