Good going Isaac. I thought you might have been down this way being school holidays, but you’re probably better off fishing your local. Things are still a little quiet in The Basin, though there’s the odd good bream up on the flats now.

Thanks Pete, was down last week and caught a few flatties around you spots one day then nothing for the next few. Hit and miss days

    Nice catch Isaac!

Bit of variety, and good to see a few school Jews in the hacking.
Can be worth a shot slow trolling a livie up the main Chanel for a kingie too. Heavy ball or torpedo/barrel sinker to keep it down mid water.

Thanks Larkin, appreciate the tip. If you have any other ideas I would love if you could shoot me a PM.

Worth heading out on a hot day, though early fishing like you did is the best way to go.

Nice flattie, reddie, a few jewies, tailor - cannot complain about those.

Thanks Yowie, was about 24 degrees by 830 so not worth sticking around with the water skiers. Have had some intel that their has been some whiting swimming around as well

  3. Headed out early today towards the deep at Lilli Pilli. Anchored up in the dark and set out a live yakka caught at Gymea Baths yesterday. Also managed a few squid there yesterday as well so set some strips out as bait as well as some pillies. Didn't take long before I landed a small jew, ended up pulling out 3 around 40-50cm and one being a PB at 60cm. Suprised when the jew came up on the pillie given we had a small yakka and squid out. Lots of action and a few just legal reddies then a 34cm one which was kept. A few lives got taken by what was either tailor or picked of by other miscreants. Missed one good hit which may have been another Jew then finally a solid hit on the live which produced a nice 62cm flattie, first one I've caught in the deep at Lilli Pilli. Trolled some squid around the drop-offs in hope of a king but no luck. Moved up SWA for a bit for one tailor which was kept for future bait. All in all a very good day out with a fish for the table, aiming to catch a legal king or jew before the year is over hopefully. The water has also warmed up substantially and is quite pleasant.

    Sorry no photo today

Worth having a go, a few fish to be found.

Currently in Qld, heading back by the end of the week, so maybe a fishing session the week after.

Thanks Yowie, if you get out you should have a bit of luck. Lots of fish around the last few weeks.

Great report mate - good to see the hacking firing atm!

Its been really flat outside too over the last two days - must of been a fair few boats out on the water

Thanks Larkin, lots of big gamefishing boats heading out when I went out.

Nice Isaac. Good to see you back out and catching a few.

Thanks Pete, is the basin firing up with the warming weather?

  5. Hello everyone, haven't been out or posted for a while so decided to head out early today and fish the deep at Lilli Pilli. Lots of action with plenty of fish breaking the surface and consistent catches of tailor and snapper. I landed 2 in the low 30's and my mate got bitten off 3 times in a row unluckily. After the sun had come over the point I landed a reddie just over legal and then the smaller pinkies started chewing so decided to move. Went to a spot in SWA I hadn't fished for a while and set up a few baits. Managed a larger tailor in the mid 50's and a few other smaller things here and there. Moved further up the arm to try get some more bait as there had been so much action we had used our bag of pillies, squid and tailor fillets. No yakkas around, probably too many boats around so we decided to anchor and swim to shore and have a bit of a walk around. Not much to see except the cuts on our feet from the oysters. The water has warmed up a lot in recent weeks.

Last effort we escaped the boat traffic and went up behind maianbar and threw some shallow dividing hardbodies around and managed a few small flatties and tailor. Right up near the shore in the shallow stuff I had a flattie probably high 40's follow my lure up, then of course my lure ran through the weed and got snagged spooking the fish😡. All in all a good day and feed to be had.

    Thanks, Isaac.

John Dory with a Lemon Butter Sauce.

    Stunning fish on the plate!
Have tried plenty at restaurants - but this was next level. Fillets were thick and juicy. Delicate white meat, and that sauce….

Looks delicious mate, if you don't mind posting how you cook the trags? You have mentioned you batter them like fish and chips,, keen to see exactly how you do it.
