Thanks a real stonker Kobi, I know you released the bream which is a top effort (I trust you know it is closed season on Bass and EP’s until Sept 1st and any caught must be released).

    thanks

  3. Yesterday I went down to the George’s to have a land based fish to start with I drifted unweighted prawns in the current picking up about 10-12 bream up to 30cm all released. After a couple of hours doing that I decided to have a flick of a soft plastic after about 10 minutes of casting I had a solid hit and after a very eratic fight I had my first estuary perch in the net. It went 45 to the tip and was around 1.7-2kg.

Also thanks to @mrsswordfisherman for helping me reset my password.

  4. I went out with my brother and dad this morning the plan was to head down the coast and get some reef fish. First we went down the coast had and a troll getting 7-8 bonito and a couple of slimies in no time.

We then headed down to some reefs further down the coast in about 50m of water and we couldn’t get past the leather jackets landing 9. We also managed to get a pig fish and a nice wrasse.

The small flatties where thick but we struggled to land anything of any size only getting 3 legal size. We then had another reef fish in about 25-10 metres of water getting a couple of rock cod and plenty of wrasse and a wirrah.  I had a few kings around 65-75cm follow my rig up but would only eat my sinker.

Kobi, that is a great haul, looks like good sized bream.

I fished last week with my mate in the deep water - a bream and flounder kept, released 2 undersized jewies and a few salmon, small reddies and tailor, not worth a report. What you have there was worth the effort.

    2 big crabs as well.

Thanks, the bream where between 35 and 39 then one just legal but swallowed the hook. I still can’t get any Jews in the hacking you must catch them all.

Keep it up! New moon this week should bring good tides 🙏🏻

I know a few of Yowie spots but still don’t get as many fish as him, hopefully I’ll go one more time these holidays.

  6. I went out with my brother and my dad in the hacking this morning and was on the water by 6:20. We started in the deep water across from lilli pilli for a few small fish but was very quiet.
Then we went and pumped some nippers and fished the flats which started of slow then picked when we went lilli pilli getting two decent bream. Then the fishing picked up and we got a nice flathead another good bream and we picked up two crabs along the way. Then the wind picked up and we were off the water by 130 with a nice feed.

  9. With the holidays starting I’ve had plenty of time to get out. On Saturday I went down to the George’s casting lures picking up a few undersized flatties and one legal. Then on Monday my brother and I went down to the Woronora river and got some small flatties and bream on prawn. Then today we went down to the George’s casting lures and prawn picking up three nice flatties and a five or six undersize fish plus a just under whiting.

Can't complain at that haul Kobi, some nice fish for the table, there. Haven't been to SWR for quite a while, used to go there in July, each year, to intercept the Tailor run North to Fraser Island, for their annual breeding. Some great memories of the place though.

  12. We’ve gone out most days that we have been up at south west rocks. We have mostly fished in the arm with nippers, live baits and lures and we’ve been getting heaps of just legal flathead which where released. Every day we got a consistent stream of flathead and bream with the odd whiting thrown with also a few black spot cod aswell. The only person who had any luck with whiting was my sister getting two 35 and 31.

That's a cracker of a Flathead, especially considering the very light gear you use. You must have played it really well, given there was a reasonable current to contend with. Do you lose many fish as a result of fishing extremely light? Very well done. bn

Thanks, we don’t loose many fish using lighter gear since we have always used the type of gear.

Well done Kobi, that is a cracker of a Flathead and will be hard to beat on the annual family fridge PB's!!

    Ash

P.S. Tyler you can add your Cod to the fridge as well.

Hopefully it will get beaten and Tyler was putting his cod on anyway since you put striped grunted and butterfish on there.

That's a stonker flathead Kobi. I noticed you fish really light, even with live baits. Is this because you find you're more successful with the lighter line?

I’ve just always fished light gear, I have fished and ansa my whole life and used 1-2kg line since I was 2 years old so I am just used to fishing light gear these days

  16. After getting to swr last night, this afternoon we went out for a few hours. We started off pumping nippers in the arm then went and got livies. We decided to fish in the arm to start with near a rock wall and a creek mouth. I cast a livie into the mouth of the creek then almost instantly had a good hit then the fish went into the main channel and moved slowly in the current. After a few tense minutes we had the fish in the net. We also got a small black spot cod which was quickly released and a few bream and another smaller flathead. The flathead was landed on 2kg line on live herring it was 93cm and an estimated 6kg and swam off strong.

  17. I am in Dubbo for a cricket comp got here today at around 1pm and was fishing by three I got nothing for the first hour then got a small carp. Then after that I was getting the odd carp every now and then losing plenty of fish. I ended up with five carp but no cod but didn’t really try for any cod.

Good work there Kobi. A nice mixed bag of fish, and plenty for the table.

  19. Yesterday morning I went out with my brother and my dad, we were on the water by 6 and went straight out to the Bommie. We got there and immediately there was slimys and yellowtail at the back of the boat but the reef fish were quiet and we only got a nice rock cod and and sea perch.

then we went and had a drift for flathead we started in 40m of water and got one nice flathead. Then we tried two more drifts for no more decent fish.

We moved back to the Bommie but there was nothing around and we ended up catching slimies on light gear for some action.

we moved back into the river and fished the deep water around lilli pilli for no success. Then we went and pumped some nippers and fished around Mainbar for only a few small bream. Then we went and fished at lilli pilli got one nice bream then nothing else.

then we moved up the river and found the fish we immediately caught a nice bream and a couple of flathead. Then we were off the water by 3 just before the storm came through.
