Perks: Free flathead for the tradies

Seems the bay's been pumped out for the new Fish markets building. Maybe a good time to scout the land for future fishing. https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/engineering-on-steroids-blackwattle-bay-drained-for-new-sydney-fish-market-20230215-p5ckp1.html

Wax on, wax Off. Or was it Paint Fence?
HawkesburyParadise replied to Madkanu's topic in Fishing Reports
Great session guys! Thank you Guru @DerekD for all your training and answering my very newbie questions. @Madkanu catching and losing the mackerel was disappointing but one of the other fishermen catching Kingy and getting the whole wharf excited was one of the highlights for me. -
How do we practice fishing distance
HawkesburyParadise replied to BabySnapperKiller's topic in Fishing Chat
haha reminds me of this guy I once met at Cremorne Wharf who told me he just got out of jail. I was impressed about his obsession with Fishing but worried about my safety at the same time. -
Good fish. You can resize on native Android photo editor. I'm sure same for Apple.

Berowra Waters - A surprise
HawkesburyParadise replied to HawkesburyParadise's topic in Fishing Reports
Definitely a Bycatch. -
Night fishing at Berowra Tackle: Gulp Crabbie and Gulp Shrimp Weather: Run in nearly full moon, clear night Summary: Lots of bites and snapped SPs. A 30cm flatty released. Biggest surprise and funniest catch til date - Catching a Crab on a Gulp Crabbie. I let it go because I have 0 idea how to measure, dispatch and eat crabs.

Hi all I picked up this drop shot minnow below from the bargain bin at my local. Any particular way to rig this? Youtube videos use just a hook but that may be a freshwater thing. Cheers HP

Soft Plastics - Environmentally sound?
HawkesburyParadise replied to HawkesburyParadise's topic in Fishing Chat
All parties have a range of people. Some people in the Greens would have us all locked up for the activity we're on this site for. That's their way of taking care of the environmental impact. Funny thing, I live in Hornsby Shire which has a better chance of turning Green than Labor. I mean neither of them really have a chance against the libs but like the Teals in other parts of Sydney, Greens have a better chance here. -
Finally, caught a fish on a soft plastic, a smallish flatty, released after. Gear: Shimano Raider Bream 7foot, Okuma 2500 reel, 6lb leader and braid Plastic: Berkeley Gulp Turbo Shrimp Action: Slow roll across flats First of many, I hope. Since starting a few weeks ago, I've had a half hookup on a swimming shad, a half eaten crab, a half eaten turbo shrimp, losing my only crank bait to a tree, 15 or more snags, slipping and injuring myself on the shin while being stealthy at Berowra waters. The full works!

Soft Plastics - Environmentally sound?

This article - https://castandkayak.com/gulp-bait-bad-for-fish/ says that smaller chunks go through the system of Fish while they spew out bigger chunks -
Soft Plastics - Environmentally sound?

Thanks Derek. Seems like I accidentally bought more Berkeley Gulp than others. -
Wifey: Did you catch any fish? Me: No, I'm working on my soft plastics skills. Wifey: 😮 You're feeding plastic to the Fish? Me: Wellllll, I don't know actually This was a conversation at my place tonight. So dear Raiders, hit me with your knowledge of environmental state of plastics. Safe for fish? Will snagged plastics break down? Thanks, HP

Location: Berowra Waters Tide: 1hr to top onwards Conditions: Fine Summary: I've sort of transitioned to SPs recently. I've been getting failures mostly atm. Had a decent bite by a Bream on a Gulp Crab Cammo. I picked this SP after watching one of Shrooms videos. The F*cker ate everything but the hook. Pic below. I had another snag me around a conrete pillar so it may have been a Bream again. Feel like getting closer.

Graphite Rod/Combo Recommendation
HawkesburyParadise replied to HawkesburyParadise's topic in Fishing Chat
I did try one of the ones you mentioned, not all. That was before reading this article. I got confused of the diff between a $65 graphite combo and a $300 graphite rod. -
Graphite Rod/Combo Recommendation

I went and tried out some of the well known ones at the big fishing store. Is it the lightness that the most important of the action of the top as well? -
Graphite Rod/Combo Recommendation
HawkesburyParadise replied to HawkesburyParadise's topic in Fishing Chat
That answers nearly all my questions. Thanks! -
Hi all, Finally looking to get into plastics. Can anyone recommend combos < 150 or rods around a 100. Looking for a light outfit for estuaries only. Happy to hear your thoughts. Cheers, HP

I've been keen on catching fish at Crosslands at the botton of Hornsby for some time now. 2 outings recently both succesful with at least 1 fish. Tide: rising Bait: Salted blue bait Summary: Both caught on retrieves in shallows. I donated 1 to some kids camping and the other was released. I was a bit worried about the sewage plant at Hornsby. However, it turns out the plan doesn't release sewage except for heavy rain. Go figure!

I've got plenty of braid on it. It's a 4lb one so maybe it looks less than it is. Before this getting stuck issue, I never reached the mono. Also, @DerekD - You're right maybe I do have more issues in the reel.
