  1. Quick flick at Apple Tree Bay today. Tide: Rising Bait: Salted White Bait Hook: Size 12 long shank Summary Quick flick to try and catch something. High tide was still many hours away but I got to see the lay of the land in ATB. Not many bites but I think I got a Yakka. It had some chompers on it. Also, is this the weed that squid hide in? Not too much but somethings better than nothing.
  2. Great thanks. Seems like Poddy Mullet can be used. I've seen a guy catch poddies using size 12 hook with bread.
  3. Started the new season with a bunch of new things: - Salted Prawn - New Okuma reel - New braid - New leader(or using for the first time) A number of mid day sessions recently allowed me to catch juvenile fish for bait using size 12 hooks. 29/1: Bobbin head, midday, outgoing tide, catching two juvenile bream, released 1/09: Bobbin head, midday, high tide, catching two juveniles 1 bream 1 unknown, used unknown for bait, no catch For me, Bobbin Head is a difficult area especially the picnic area so I'm not surprised I didn't catch a bigger fish using fresh bait. I'll try this technique in other places. Question - Can juvenile bream be used for bait? Or is it only certain species?
  4. Fishingmad is pretty good. I follow this couple who are beginners fishing around Sydney, they're no pros but I see them on the same journey as me -
  5. Is it Whiting season already or are they around all year? I thought they were a summer fish.
  6. Well done. Your 3 yr old is doing better than me 😛
  7. Haha well English is my 2nd language.
  8. I just bought new braid and realised that after the first maybe 50 metres, the line wasn't discoloured(though had the wet stickiness). Is it a better idea to avoid adding the full length of braid on the spool and then restring the used part?
  9. Thinking of replacing the Pryml braid I added last year and adding flurocarbon leader. Probably a 6lb capacity will suit me for both.
  10. I have a compost bin at home and I keep thinking of using them. However, It seems a bit icky to me
  11. So it's that time of the year again when Sydney brings out it's best blue skies and the best sunshine without burning your skin. Can someone tell me when/if the water temperature starting turning enough for the Fish to be aggressive again? Specifically, I mean from land in the estuaries(I know some of you fish through the Winter).
  12. So I ended up going and the prices seemed pretty high. However, someone here DM'd me an Aussie guy and I contacted him. He had a competitive price and I asked him for availability. Unfortunately, 1) He never got back to me and 2) I got Bali belly on the proposed day anyway. @mrsswordfisherman - What is the good time of the year for Fishing in Bali? This won't be my last trip to Bali, We had a great time. Might make a Winter trip to Bali a regular occurrence.
  13. Thanks mate. Timings won't match unfortunately.
  14. Hey guys, I am heading to Bali next week and one of the ideas from the group was to do a fishing charter from Nusa Dua. Has anyone had experience with this and if so, what are your thoughts? From reviews, it seems the Fishing isn't amazing around Bali but the tour operators themselves have some great photos. Happy to hear thoughts HP
  15. Dude the fish probably know you in Meadowbank by now. "There's Mike with his soft plastics again" - Flatty from Rothesay Ave
  16. So after reading all about Winter fishing, Tailor, Snapper et al, I decided on a trip to the harbour after work. I bought salted blue Tweed bait from the petrol station and some bread. I wouldn't say I had high hopes but certainly I got 0 bites on the bread or blue pilchards. Meanwhile there was a bloke preparing to catch Jews at night. I hope he did. Tide: Low turning to high Place: Wharf Summary: 2hrs, cold, no bites
  17. That's way too far for me to get to but I assume it's the same across the coast at the moment.
  18. What area is this? I don't need the spot, just the area
  19. Hey Mike, What's the technique to run it? Throw a long way and retrieve really fast?
  20. When you say small, how small and which metal lures?
  21. Hi all, It seems to be a Winter fish and apparently more of them now then in the Summer. What are your tips for catching Tailor especially in estuaries? Particularly, can they be caught on bait or are lures necessary? I am ok to hit the harbour for them but I'd rather not do a trip to the harbour with nothing to show for in the cold. Kind regards, HP
  22. Hey Ya'll I've been seeing videos about salted baits on Youtube. I reached this rabbit hole when searching about how to avoid having a prawn picked apart. Anyone salt their baits and if so, what the benefit of this? Cheers
  23. I was curious to know how the fishing is affected in the Winter. Does the cooler water have an effect on the stocks? or is it simply a change of the types of fish in the water?
  24. I've had lots of bites with prawn but perhaps its the frozen ones, somehow the fish remove it right the hook.
