  1. Hi everyone, Not sure if this is the place to post this.... I do appologise if this is the incorrect spot. I have read that you can catch beach worms on any beach in an outgoing tide..... but can you do this at night time with a headlight. Kind Regards Squid_jig
  2. can anyone tell me....Can one catch beach worms in the night??? or better yet are they sensitive to light as I have access to a part of the beach that is lit at night ...great for squiding but this worming might be an answer for me if I want to catch some decent fish. also do black fish eat beach worms? thanks Squid_jig
  3. Hi there.... Been also fishing a while and would love to join you on a beach session some time if you don't mind. Please do let me know cheers Adrian
  4. Thanks Everyone for the kind word and positive feedback. Yeah I will keep squidding as they sure do taste great. Probably need to catch more if I want to use them for live bait as it really is hard work catching them and having those little pickers eat them well is soo unrewarding. cheers all
  5. Well after finally trying all sorts of squid jigs...it's been a long year to finally catch a few squid. It was a long 3 hours but at least I managed 3 arrows and 2 Southern Calamarie. I dropped a further 2 Calamaries due to lifting them up to the pier. Anyway Since it was my first for catching them I will try next time so send them out on a rig for something bigger but they sure do taste good with some Chillie and lime, pan fried. Anyway hopefully I can get more. cheers all noSquid hmmmm hey is there anyway I can change my nick to at least somesquid now?

  8. Well Sunday morning was a very early start 4:00am, Looked at the weather and thought that I might as well go off to manly for a beach fish session. It was not raining when I left but started to drizzle as I was half way there. Anyway my hopes were kind of down when I saw that the tide was very low and well the weather was not looking very promising. Well I got my stuff all sorted with one rod being baited up and the other armed with a soft plastic. The fishing was very slow and difficult as I only have two light gear rods. Fishing started at 5:00am and for the next hour nothing. Then finally the line had a bit of a tap…tap…tap and I struck back, winding in the line, I managed to catch a blue swimmer crab. It came off the line just on the shore but I did manage to grab it before it could get away. It was a very nice surprise but still not what I came out for. Then after many more casts of no success on the plastics I decided to concentrate on the baited rod. On one of the casts, as soon as the line hit the water I felt the rod load and see line peel off. I let the line go and then set the hook. I saw the fish hit the surface an it looked like a flathead. Anyway I reeled in the line and the fish swam just behind a rock and then the line got stuck. It looked like the lead weight had gotten stuck and the fish was frantically splashing about on the surface then ping goes the line and out shoots the lead weight back at me…almost hit me….anyway there goes my flattie…. It looked like a good keeper too (. I was really quite annoyed with myself as I really should have played the fish better and not gotten into that situation in the first place. Oh well I will have to keep trying….. So I rebaited and casted. I must have been getting bites as the hooks always came back empty but I honestly could not feel the takes, probably because of the incoming tide. Well eventually I reeled in and had a huge ball of line tangled on my hook. I took it of and then began to wind in all this loose line, when suddenly the line started to pull back and move in all sorts of directions. The line was wound in my hand I have to admit that at one point I almost thought that my hand was going to have some really serious line burns / cuts as the line had been pulled to the point that my hand was not getting any blood…..I eventually managed to twist my hand out of the ball of wound up line and thank goodness for that otherwise I would have been in some really serious pain. Anyway the I did suffer some cuts to my hand but because of the awesome fight going on in the water in front of me.. who cares……. I played the fish and eventually I landed a beautiful Australian Salmon. My first…. Well not really official but hey it measured 70cm and to top it off, it had a lovely repala lure attached to it. I bled the fish and took it straight home, I know a lot of people say that they are not the best eating fish but baked in lemon and butter with some herbs and garlic, the family and relatives were all very impressed with the fresh dinner. Hey I am still eager to catch some thing officially and also preferably the elusive squid ………so if anyone out there can help me out for an outing that would be greatly appreciative, Hope this year brings us all tight lines and great fishing
  9. I went down to 40 baskets on this past Saturday again for the 30th time and well 4:00am was the start. I had been burlying for a while and still nothing came around... not even a squid this time. Well a guy I met called jim invited me on his row boat out and before you know it, I have a couplue of small & large yellowtails. I proceeded to put one on a hook and send it out but for the entire morning, nothing. A boat came bye and we offered them our catches of yellowtail. We left them still fishing for more, so hope you two guys did ok. Only fish caught after that were plenty of small snapper. Is anyone going out tomorrow from Turnks park as I would be greatly appreciative if I could join you? Kind Regards Ad
  10. Went to 40 basket on the weekend and all I caught was....little sweep in plague proportions..... I went early in the morning on the Saturday +- 4am and was on the water by 4:30am. I could see the squid but I couldn't get them to take the lures. i tried basically for 3 hours for absolutely nothing. What am i doing wrong. inbetween this i did manage one yakka and sent it out but not even a touch. When you do this are you supposed to rig the livey with a float to keep them in the top water column or with a weight to keep them on the bottom? Any Suggestions. I have been trying for quite some time and have not been succesful at all. Also went to Turnks Park on the Saturday Afternoon and also couldn;t cata a single sifh, even though I could see them. Anyone out ther able to give me a hand or better yet let me join you on a fishig outing. I have my own light gear. I would love it if someone has a spare spot sometime to go out and catch some squid, as my nick suggests, i am still squidless thanks Ad

  12. Thats awsome.... I was in NZ last year for my Honey Moon and sadly the wife said no fishing so pretty much i could only look into the beautiful lakes and imagine catching those stealthy rainbows and even better browns. If I ever went to NZ I would certainly like to look you up and catch up for a fly-fishing session. Cheers Adrian
